    Kecemasan Akademik Siswa di Sekolah: Suatu Tinjauan Singkat

    Isu kesehatan mental siswa di sekolah telah banyak didokumentasikan, salah satunya adalah kecemasan akademik. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memberikan tinjauan singkat terhadap konsep dasar kecemasan akademik. Kecemasan akademik pada dasarnya dibutuhkan bagi siswa karena mengacu pada adanya tekanan psikologis yang dapat dikelola; dan memotivasi siswa untuk tampil lebih baik secara akademik. Sayangnya kecemasan akademik telah banyak mempengaruhi konsentrasi, prestasi, dan kenyamanan siswa dalam situasi sekolah, dan dapat mengurangi kualitas hidup siswa karena tidak dapat dikendalikan dengan baik. Kecemasan akademik juga sering diperburuk oleh tekanan untuk berprestasi, ketakutan akan kegagalan, atau komparasi dengan teman-temannya di sekolah. &nbsp

    A Review on the Oxford Advanced Dictionary Online Intended for Learners of English

    Nowadays, the use of online dictionaries is a great help to helping learners of English to enhance their English rules. The present study aimed to achieve its objectives through an initial exposition of the comprehensive attributes of the Oxford Advanced Dictionary online, recognized as a valuable educational resource, followed by a review of its merits and demerits in terms of content and presentation for its intended user demographic. The method used in this study was the library research approach as a means of gathering pertinent data from the online dictionary, which entailed the need for contextual references to comprehend the usefulness of the dictionary. It was found that the dictionary provided a piece of comprehensive information and an in-depth understanding of the various aspects of the English language essential for enhancing learners' mastery of English and authentic usage of words through citations and corpora. On the contrary, the one notable drawback of this dictionary pertains to its dependency on internet connectivity. Due to its online nature, English learners may encounter challenges accessing the dictionary in offline settings or regions with limited internet availability and confining their opportunities for learning. A conclusion was also drawn that this online dictionary facilitates learners' ability to articulate words clearly, drawing from the extensive resources provided within the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary online

    Using Error Analysis to Improve Vocational Students Descriptive Text Writing

    The goal of this research is to reduce mistakes or get a satisfactory result in simple present tense. The researcher suggests that the teacher encourage his students to improve their English, especially their writing skills. The teacher should know what to do if he or she knows where most students make mistakes in auxiliary words and word choice. The teacher should help students understand English grammar and vocabulary better. To get a good result, teaching and learning activities must also be improved. The goals of this study are to find out if students make mistakes, what kinds of mistakes they make, and where the mistakes come from among the tenth-grade students at Pandawa Vocational High School. The researcher uses a test and a questionnaire, which are both reliable and valid tools, to collect the data. The information comes from the students in the tenth grade at Pandawa Vocational High School. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative data analysis to figure out what the data mean. The result shows that the average number of mistakes made by students is 51%. It is part of the fair criteria, which is good. The result shows that the students made a total of 177 mistakes. The students make mistakes in 70 miss-formations (39.54 percent), 57 omissions (32.21 percent), 29 miss-orderings (16.39 percent), and 21 additions (11.87 percent)

    Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif, dengan menggunakan teknik Missing lyrics serta dengan jumlah populasi dan sampel sebanyak 30 siswa. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan lagu Fix you dan Roar terhadap upaya peningkatan penguasaan vocabulary siswa. Vocabulary bahasa Inggris dapat disimpulkan sebagai kosa kata atau perbendaharaan kata dalam bahasa Inggris. Ketika mempelajari bahasa luar negeri,vocabulary dasar yang kita miliki dalam bahasa itu adalah salah satu micro skill yang terpenting untuk dikembangkan. Tentunya, semua micro skills seperti grammar, vocabulary, pronounciation sangat penting. Lagu bahasa Inggris adalah paket bahasa hebat dan cukup lengkap yang menggabungkan budaya, kosa kata, mendengarkan, tata bahasa, dan sejumlah keterampilan bahasa lainnya hanya dalam beberapa bait. Lagu Dapat digunakan untuk berbagai macam materi pembelajaran penguasaan kosa kata bahasa Inggris. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti menggunakan metode penggunaan lagu berjudul Fix you dan Roar serta menggunakan teknik Missing lyrics sebagai tes untuk mendapat hasil nilai pre-test dan post test

    Pragmatic Competence or Pragmatic Knowledge and Its Role in Linguistic Communication

    The current study has two objectives. First, to examine and discuss types of pragmatic competence or pragmatic knowledge that a speaker may possess. Second, to find out the vital role of pragmatic competence or pragmatic knowledge in linguistic communication. The method used in this research was library research. It was evident from the findings that pragmatic knowledge or pragmatic competence must include the knowledge of implicature, presupposition, speech acts, reference, deixis, definiteness and indefiniteness and their use in linguistic communication. A conclusion was also drawn that pragmatic knowledge or pragmatic competence had a vital role in language acquisition or language learning. A lack of pragmatic knowledge may lead to pragmatic failure, i.e., the inability to understand what the speaker means with his words in actual linguistic communication

    : Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh Minat Belajar dan Penguasaan Tata Bahasa secara bersama-sama terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Teks Eksplanasi pada siswa SMK Pancakarya di Kota Tangerang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survei dengan jumlah sampel 60 siswa yang dipilih secara random pada tiga SMK Swasta di Kota Tangerang. Penelitian ini menggunakan tiga instrumen yaitu minat belajar berbentuk angket, instrumen penguasaan tata bahasa dan kemampuan menulis teks eksplanasi berbentuk tes tertulis. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis korelasi dan regresi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukan: (1) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan Minat Belajar dan Penguasaan Tata Bahasa secara bersama-sama terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Teks Eksplanasi siswa SMK  Pancakarya di Kota Tangerang. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan perolehan nilai Sig.=0.000<0,05 dan Fh=35.283. (2) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan Minat Belajar Terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Teks Eksplanasi siswa SMK Pancakarya di Kota Tangerang. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan perolehan nilai Sig.=0.000<0,05 dan thitung=6.641. (3) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan Penguasaan Tata Bahasa terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Teks Eksplanasi siswa SMK Pancakarya di kota Tangerang. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan perolehan nilai Sig.=0.011<0.05 dan thitung =3.886

    The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of using mind mapping technique on improving the writing ability of descriptive text for 8th grade students at SMP Negeri 15 Depok. This research used an experimental method with a quantitative approach. The population in this research is 287 students in class VIII SMP Negeri 15 Depok, with a sample of 40 students consisting of 20 students in class VIII.4 as the experimental class and 20 students in class VIII.5 as the control class. The results of the analysis in the experimental class obtained mean 82, median 83.83, modus 87.72, variance 62.11, and standard deviation 7.88. Then in the control class obtained mean 71.3, median 70.5, modus 63.83, variance 54.91, and standard deviation 7.41. The results showed that the value of t-score > t-table which is 4.42 > 2.024. Then it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of using mind mapping technique on improving the writing ability of descriptive text, particularly in the content and organization, and also the creativity of 8th grade students at SMP Negeri 15 Depok

    Pengaruh Penggunaan Media Visual Terhadap Keterampilan Menulis Teks Deskriptif Bahasa Inggris Pada Siswa SMP 3 Jakarta

    Penelitian in bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan media visual terhadap keterampilan menulis teks dekstiptif bahasa Inggris siswa smpn 3 Jakarta. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan 40 sample siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen murni. Skor kelas eksperimen menunjukan skor yang lebih tinggi daripada kelas kontrol. Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dalam penggunaan media visual terhadap keterampilam menulis teks deskriptif siswa. Skor kelas eksperimen menunjukkan skor yang lebih tinggi daripada kelas kontrol. Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan penggunaan media visual terhadap keterampilan menulis teks deskriptif siswa. Pada kelas eksperimen nilai tertinggi adalah 95 dan nilai terendah 78. Rata-rata hasil kelas eksperimen yaitu 88,3, median 90,5, modus 90,11, standar deviasi 5,05, dan variannya adalah 25,48. Sebaliknya, skor kelas kontrol lebih rendah dari kelas eksperimen. Skor tertinggi adalah 85 dan skor terendah 50. Rata-rata hasil kelas kontrol yaitu 73,8, median 75,14, modus 76,5, standar deviasi 8,13, dan varians sebesar 66,22. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, diperoleh thitung sebesar 6,76 dengan merujuk pada distribusi tabel ttabel dapat dilihat bahwa dk (40-2=38) pada taraf signifikan α = 0,05 senilai 1,68 sehingga thitung > ttabel yaitu 6,76 > 1,68. Hasil tersebut menunjukan bahwa hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak dan hipotesis penelitian (H1) diterima. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh penggunaan media visual terhadap keterampilan menulis siswa kelas VII SMPN 3 Jakarta

    An Error Analysis of Using Simple Past Tense in Students Narrative Writing

    Writing is one of language skills used to give information to others. It is very important to be mastered by the students because at the end of the study they must write a scientific paper. In fact, there are some errors made by the students during the learning process. The objectives of the study are to identify the types of error made by the students in using simple past tense in narrtaive writing, to find out the causes of error based on Richards’ theory, and to know the percentage of students’ errors in using simple past tense in narrative writing. The study was conducted at SMA IT Tunas Bangsa Insan Mandiri Cilodong Depok.The approach used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The instrument of this study is written test in narrative text. The sample of this research were twenty students of the tenth grade student of X-2 and X-3 class at SMA IT Tunas Bangsa Insan Mandiri Cilodong Depok. Based on the research findings in data analysis it can be concluded that there are four types of error made by the students in using simple past tense in narrative wrting; omissions, additions, misformations, and misorderings
