    Covid-19 Related Experiences, Online Leisure Crafting, and Academic Performance: Role of Uncertainty Avoidance

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the linkage between COVID-19 related experiences and the academic performance of university students. COVID-19, in general, has impacted the whole world financially, socially, and psychologically through its adverse effects in the form of closure of business, financial crisis, downsizing, psychological distress, etc. Evidence suggests the prevalence of COVID-19 related issues among university students who faced stressful conditions due to lockdown and isolation. Methodology: Drawing on the behavioral theory of plasticity, the present study adopted a two-wave methodology for data collection.  We collected data with the help of structured questionnaires from students (n=1473) of an international university in Australia. We used the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique to test the moderated mediation model in Smart PLS3.   Findings: Results indicated that COVID-19 related experiences were negatively associated with students’ academic performance and positively with online leisure crafting. Whereas online leisure crafting was positively associated with academic performance and partially mediated the COVID-19 related experiences and academic performance. Uncertainty avoidance significantly buffered the effect of COVID-19 related experiences on online leisure crafting.  The findings supported the research framework of the study. Conclusion: This study helps make clear the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of the impact of COVID-19 related experiences on university students’ academic performance through the mediation of online leisure crafting and moderation of uncertainty avoidance. The implications for university management and policymakers are discussed

    Workplace Spirituality, Emotions, and Deviant Workplace Behavior

    Purpose:The study investigates the role of emotions in determining the relationship between workplace spirituality and deviant workplace behavior.Methodology:A total of 550 instruments were distributed to employees of the IT sector of Karachi, and 457 were returned. Therefore, five separate structural models were used to investigate the role of emotions in the relationship between workplace spirituality and deviance in workplace behavior.Findings:Results suggest that emotions mediate the relationship between workplace spirituality and deviant workplace behavior.Conclusion:Therefore, since emotions mediate workplace spirituality and deviant workplace behavior, it is concluded that managers must focus on emotions to reduce deviance in the workplace

    The Effect of Despotic Leadership on the Employee Work Withdrawal Behavior and Acquiescent Silence

    Purpose: The main aim to conduct this research is to identify whether LMX mediates the relationship between despotic leadership and acquiescence silence. In addition, the study also takes into account the role of Quality of work life as a mediator in the relationship between despotic leadership and work withdrawal behavior. Methodology: The data was collected by sharing the adopted questionnaire with the target population a total of 247 valid responses were received from the employee working in the manufacturing sector of Pakistan. Smart PLS was used to measure the model. The research is conducted for the managers leading a team of professionals and the community of Human Resource Development that includes business consultants, advisors, employees, top management, scholars, specialists, and students. Findings: The study found that despotic leadership increases withdrawal behavior and acquiescence in silence among employees. Moreover, leader-member exchange mediates the relationship between despotic leadership and work withdrawal behavior and quality of work-life mediates the relationship between despotic leadership and work withdrawal behavior. Conclusion: The findings declared that despotic leadership has a destructive influence on subordinates concerning increased work withdrawal behavior and acquiescent silence

    Learning from Growth-Oriented Women Entrepreneurs: A Study of Women Entrepreneurs of Karachi

    Purpose: Women contribute to economic growth. Changing global sociocultural conditions have increased interest in women\u27s entrepreneurship research. Despite this trend, women entrepreneurs are still misunderstood, and the literature portrays them and their ventures as disadvantaged. This study presents a change in the methodology of studying women entrepreneurs by using a phenomenological research design and portraiture study on three growth-oriented women entrepreneurs. The paper describes how growth-oriented women entrepreneurs improved their knowledge, skills, and abilities and used growth enablers to start and grow their businesses. Methodology: This qualitative phenomenological study explains growth-oriented women entrepreneurs in Karachi. Karachi and women\u27s offices were researched. In this study, women entrepreneurs met these criteria: (1) These Karachi businesswomen started their business from scratch; (2) They had been in business for at least three years to measure growth; and (4) They were willing to participate in interviews, observations, and artefacts gathering. Findings: The results of the study were summarized in five themes: (1) Women’s Entrepreneurial Experience; (2) Women’s Perception of Entrepreneurial Characteristics; (3) Women’s entrepreneurial learning; (4) Women’s entrepreneurial reflections on gender; (5) Women’s Entrepreneurial Self as Knower. Conclusion: The study\u27s findings can be used to develop a model for aspiring or struggling women entrepreneurs. Future research and policy implications are also discussed

    The Moderating Role of Learning Performance on Teaching Competencies and Student Satisfaction

    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating role of the learning performance of the student on the relationship of teacher’s competencies and student satisfaction in higher education institutions of Karachi. Methodology: Three different scales namely SETs, Teaching Competence scale, and learning performance scale were used to measure student satisfaction, teaching competencies, and performance learning of students respectively. A survey method was used to collect firsthand data from tier3 universities of Karachi. Findings: The positive impact of teachers’ competencies on student satisfaction has been observed. The result shows that the learning performance of students is partially moderating the relationship. Conclusion: The study concluded that there is a significant positive impact of teacher’s competencies on student satisfaction. The higher teaching competencies lead to greater student satisfaction. Also Learning performance of students from tier3 universities of Karachi has a significant impact on the relationship between student satisfaction and teacher’s competence

    Impact of Leadership Incivility on Employee Leaving Intention and Job Insecurity: Mediating role of Workplace Ostracism

    Purpose: Supervisors\u27 Incivility is considered a key antecedent of workplace ostracism and it is one of the burning issues and has a direct relationship with Job Insecurity, similarly, Job Insecurity generates the intention to leave the organization among employees. Methodology: The targeted population was the employee of healthcare institutions working in Pakistan. The sample of 336 was collected using the purposive sampling technique and the quantitative approach was applied due to the explanatory nature of the study. A five-level Likert scale questionnaire was employed to collect the data from the employees of the healthcare institutions regardless of their role and designation. Data analysis was run in twos steps, first demographic & descriptive by using Statistical Package for social science (SPSS 25.0), and in the second stage we used structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used for convergent & discriminant validities the Partial least squares (PLS) approach was adopted by using the smart PLS software for the analysis of data. Findings: The results revealed that there is a direct positive relationship between leadership incivility and employee leaving intention and job security. The mediating role of workplace ostracism is not established among the dependent and independent variables however job insecurity ignites and mediates the employee leaving intentions. Conclusion: The study in Pakistan revealed that the workplace environment contributes 32% to job performance and 23% to Employee Leaving Intention. The study aims to evaluate leadership incivility and its effects on employee leaving intention and job insecurity, and also moderate the relationship between workplace ostracism with job insecurity and employee leaving intentions

    Positive Stereotyping Could Be Reasoned to Workplace Intergenerational Retention: A Study of Three Generations in the Health Sector of Pakistan

    Purpose: The research on intergenerational work environment has attracted researchers in past decades variously and seems valuable in the present time era. The purpose of the present research is to examine the effect of positive stereotyping on intergenerational retention while organizational commitment plays mediating role in this relationship. Methodology: The sample consisted of 206 nurses from hospitals operating under the Punjab health department and the convenience sampling technique was used based on the cross-sectional design. The quantitative survey was conducted to assess the role of organizational commitment between positive stereotypes and workplace inter-generational retention. Findings: The results of the current study were analyzed on SMART PLS 3.2.2 software to predict reliability, assess the structural model, and hypothesized relationships between variables. Obtained results show that positive stereotyping has a significant direct effect on intergenerational retentions. Further organizational commitment significant positively mediates this relationship. Conclusion: Drawing upon generational cohort theory the research highlights the positive role of stereotyping among various generations at the workplace and recommends to the retention of educators is more positive stereotyping among various age group employee

    Closed Loop Supply Chain: Evaluating Ecological Footprint

    Purpose:  The purpose of this research is to evaluate the success of the closed-loop E-waste supply chain operations, primarily focused on achieving sustainability objectives related to the manufacturing, distribution, reusing, and discarding of electrical components. Methodology: The supply chain operations reference model offers suggestions and benchmarking tools to monitor the performance of supply chains and enhance the processes. This study illustrates a conceptual framework to show how these standards could be used in the E-waste supply chain to link business processes, metrics, industry standards, and technology to enhance the relationship and coordination between the supply chain members and to increase sustainability throughout the supply chain. Findings: According to an assessment of the literature, insufficient attention has been paid to the SCOR model\u27s sustainability criteria. Consequently, in the wake of portraying the structure of the Supply Chain Operation Reference model, we make sense of which credits should be included in the Supply Chain Operation Reference to reflect manageability and which cycles and practices are related to every standard or should be remembered for Supply Chain Operation Reference to lay out the connection between execution, cycles, and practices.     Investors’ Biases & Stock Return Volatility: A Systematic Literature Review

    Purpose: Literature is scarce on the possible relationship between investors’ biases, risk tolerance attitude, and stock return volatility. The researcher investigated what are the investor biases, and how they contribute to the risk-averse and risk-seeking attitudes and developed a taxonomy model of investors’ biases in the form of a causal framework that impacts stock return volatility. Methodology: The study employs a systematic literature review approach. The analysis of literature includes 65 articles from impact factor journals including three seminal papers in the fields of traditional and behavioral finance. The time frame ranges from 2008 to 2022. Findings: The findings suggest that investors encounter certain biases such as cognitive, emotional, cultural, religious, financial, macroeconomic, demographic, etc. Literature has identified positive, negative, and mixed impacts of investors\u27 biases on stock return volatility. The systematic analysis of literature helps in identifying recently evolving biases such as individualism, uncertainty avoidance, a religious adherence, investor mood, weather bias, fear sentiments, sports sentiments, power distance, masculinity, social media sentiments so on and so forth. Conclusion: The study has proposed an integrated taxonomy model comprised of possible investors’ biases as independent variables along with mediating, controlling, and moderating variables that impact stock return volatility. Moreover, investors’ risk tolerance profile is also constructed which indicates the role of behavioral biases in shaping investors’ attitudes as risk seekers and risk-averse

    Psychometric Features of Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) Among the Students of Higher Education Sector in Karachi –Pakistan

    Purpose: The motivated strategies for learning questionnaire (MSLQ) are extensively used by researchers and educators to measure self-regulated learning skills. The survey originally published in English has also been translated into multiple languages. However, a gap in the literature is found for its reliability and validity studies in the Pakistani context, specifically in the higher education sector. Therefore, this study was designed to establish the local norms and appraise the scale factors in specific samples and cultures. Methodology: Path analysis was used to examine the latent factor structures to determine whether MSLQ is appropriately reliable and valid to be used on our normative sample. All 15 subscales of the MSLQ were administered to a sample of 272 (n: 272) students enrolled in the undergraduate program of a private university located in Karachi, Pakistan. Findings: Results from the administration of MSLQ on a sample from the local population suggest that the scale is reliable and valid. Subscales (the exogenous variables) were loaded onto their respective factors with high regression weights. Statistically significant correlations were found among eleven subscales and the academic performances of students. The gender difference was found in eight subscales with significant Cohen’s D. However, the model fit indices on SEM show a relative fit and poor fit on some of the indices. Conclusion: This study concludes that students’ learning strategies and motivation have an impact on academic outcomes and considerable gender difference prevails in terms of motivation and learning strategies in Pakistani students
