    Impact of Loneliness and Depression on Social Isolation of Third Gender in Multan: An Analysis

    This study was conducted in the sphere of lonely and socially isolated third gender as their lingering agony is not realized by mainstream society. The major objective of the study is to explore the impact of loneliness and depression on social isolation of third gender. Researcher collected data from randomly selected 100 eunuchs from Multan city, using self-administered questionnaire and face-to-face interview schedule. Researcher explored that loneliness significantly affected social isolation (p<.05). The study concluded that loneliness produced social isolation among third genders in Multan. The study further suggested that social inclusion of third gender in main fabric of society through their participation in social institutions

    Institutional Role on Personality Grooming of Students at Higher Secondary Level

    The institute defines its aims and sets educational objectives adapted to these aims. The institute has a clear and distinct sense of its core values and character, of its distinctive elements, of its place both in colleges and in society, and of its contribution to the public good. The aims of the study were (i). To explore the practices for development of personality in institutions. (ii) To identify the role of administrators of institutes for students ‘personality development. (iii)To determine which sector is more competent in doing better personality development at higher secondary level in private and public sector institutes. With survey design the study was descriptive in its nature. The population of the study was all private and public colleges of Punjab Province. Six hundred and twenty-eight out of seven hundred and twenty students, and also thirty administrators out of thirty-two, participated in the research. Instrument was tested by conducting Pilot testing with (?=.87) reliability. Parametric statistics and summary statistics were menu plated to check the assumption, Normality tests and Boxplot were applied. To compare the private and public institutes, Non-parametric test was applied on the given information. It was concluded from the study that (i) Activities related to personality development, are doing in institutions. (ii) Administrators are doing their job in personality development among boys and girls at higher secondary level. (iii) Private sector is doing better job to the development of student’s personality than public sector

    “End Up on the Streets”: an Evidence-based Study on Street-begging and Poverty in Sialkot, Pakistan

    The rapid development in 21st century not only gave birth to urbanization but also accompanied emergence of slums in cities. Now days, one of the phenomena grabbing serious attention of social scientists is the association between street – begging and poverty not just in developing countries but also in the developed ones. This research paper intends to analyze the relationship that occurs between street – begging and poverty as a social issue, leading towards its prevention approaches. The study site was Sialkot, a city of province Punjab, Pakistan. It was descriptive cross – sectional and a quantitative approach in its nature. For primary data collection, descriptive survey and designed questionnaire was administered to One hundred and thirty respondent street – beggars chosen randomly from various public places in city. The data analysis phased employed simple descriptive statistics. Finally, an attempt has been made by recommending in form of a road map in order to prevent the city’s discomfort. Findings reveal that majority of beggars are poor, illiterate and needy. They make both ends meet by begging at several spaces and are deprived of generous helping hands. Moreover, begging is a consequence of several factors i.e. poverty, parental loss, physical challenges, unemployment – to name just a few. Furthermore, the recommendations include incorporation of this socio – economically marginalized group in Pakistan’s anti – poverty program. This section is in dire need of employment opportunities provided by Sialkot’s industrialist community in order to desist them from indulging in beggary. The local government authorities and policy planners must embrace multi – targeted approaches in the practice reactive interventions

    Attitude of Secondary School Head Teachers towards their Teachers: Professional Ethics Perspective

    The main purpose of this qualitative study was to explore and analyze the attitude of secondary school head teachers towards their teachers’ professional ethics perspective. To achieve the objectives, six head teachers (3 males and 3 females) and twenty teachers (10 males and 10 females) were conveniently selected as participants of the study from Multan city. The data were collected through a semi structured interview protocol carrying nine questions and seven focused group discussion questions after taking appointments from the participants. The tape-recorded interviews and discussions were transcribed and thereafter the researchers made thorough examination of data in order to gauge trends of respondents’ views. Furthermore, key ideas were identified, categorized and then condensed. The identified key ideas were codified and organized into themes. All the interviews were conducted in national language Urdu. Each interview lasted about 30-40 minutes. The researchers used the audio-tape for discussions but also took the written notes of the heads and their teachers. It was found that all teachers had positive attitude towards professional ethics. The study concluded that teachers who act more professionally and also aware of their duties, relatively observe teachers’ professional code of ethics both in and outside the class. It was recommended that, in order to enhance teachers’ knowledge of the professional code of ethics, there should be regular refresher courses programs in the form of seminars and workshops. &nbsp

    Examining Relationship between Self-efficacy Beliefs of Elementary Level English Teachers and their Implementation Practices of Formative Assessment in Punjab

    The purpose of the study was to examine curriculum implementation practices regarding formative assessment carried out by English teachers at elementary level in Punjab, and to see their relationship with their self-efficacy beliefs. The researcher used explanatory correlational research design to conduct this study. Data were collected from 576 English teachers of 288 elementary and secondary schools that were selected through multistage sampling technique. For this purpose, Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES) and a self-developed Questionnaire on Curriculum Implementation Practices of Teachers (QCIPT) were used. Data were analyzed by using frequency percentages, means and Spearman correlation coefficient. The mean value revealed that implementation practices of English teachers regarding formative assessment were lesser than the optimal level. English teachers were found moderately confident in their capabilities regarding their classroom practices. A significant relationship was found between English teachers’ self-efficacy beliefs and their formative assessment practices. It was recommended that more practical work may be included in the programs to enhance their competence of curriculum implementation practices in formative assessment

    A Comparison Between Online and on-campus Classes: Taking University Students’ Perspective

    During the current pandemic Covid-19, the universities had to start their online classes instead of traditional on-campus classes. The students are a pivotal point as well as a significant stakeholder of education, so they must be given the opportunity for expressing their perspectives in this regard. So, this study aimed to investigate university students' perceptions regarding online and on-campus classes. The students’ perspectives were further compared regarding the abovementioned to get insight into what they prefer to be taught with. The survey was conducted for this study. The sample consisted of 440 university students enrolled in the BS Program at three public whereas three private universities at Lahore. The sample includes students of both genders (male=221, female=219). The instrument for data collection was developed by the researcher which was consisted of five point Likert’s rating scale with 40 items. Based on findings, it is concluded that overall university students prefer to learn through on-campus classes as compared to online classes. Moreover, males students are more inclined towards learning through online classes, whereas female students were in favor of on-campus classes

    Impact of Vocational Training on Economic Empowerment of Youth in Rural Areas of Punjab

    The current study was conducted to evaluate the role of Punjab Vocational Council in promoting empowerment of youth in rural areas of District Bhakkar. It was a case study of vocational training institutes working under Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC). Out of 06 vocational training institutes of District Bhakkar, 03 institutes were selected as sample, 180 pass-out trainees were selected from these institutions by using stratified random sampling method. It was a quantitative research, hence survey method was used to gather information from the respondents. Study findings clearly demonstrated that vocational training plays a vital role in improving economic status of youth and has not only increased their income, but has also increased their food, education and health expenditures as well. Study indicated that majority of respondents were involved in income generating activities and were able to add in their monthly family income. Chi-square tests confirmed that vocational training had a significant impact in enhancing economic conditions of youth in rural areas

    Quantity of Feedback Provision: University Students’ Perceptions from Gender Perspectives and Association with Achievement

    Current Feedback plays a highly significant role in enhancing students’ learning. Feedback provision helps students grow and learn from their mistakes. Feedback also informs students about their strengths, weaknesses, and helps them in determining their level of success. It is, therefore, important to supply students enough information, useful for them to future their learning. In this context, the quantity of feedback provision is also important in addition to the quality of feedback as provides base. The researchers observed that this basic component of quantity of feedback provision is also in question in universities of Pakistan before moving to the most useful component of quality of feedback. This research was, therefore, conducted to examine the quantity of feedback practices in three universities of Multan city. The study further examines quantity of feedback provisions to students from the perspective of their gender and its association with their achievement. The study was descriptive in nature, so a questionnaire based on five-point Likert scale was used to collect data from the students. The population of the study included students from three selected universities of Multan city i.e., the largest one Bahauddin Zakariya University, and medium size Women University and Multan campus of the University of Education, Lahore. Population included of all students from three selected universities of Multan and a sample of 871 students was selected using the multistage cluster sampling method. Data were analyzed by using mean and standard deviation from descriptive statistics, along with independent sample t-test and correlation from inferential statistics. The key findings showed that the quantity of feedback provisions to students is not enough. It was also found that female students perceive that they get more quantity of feedback as compared to male students. Furthermore, results also revealed that quantity of feedback provisions and quantity of feedback provisions to students are positively associated with each other

    The Written Discourse of Female College Students about Formal Literacy and Self: A Study Analysis

    Self is a fluid construct. Its construction and representation vary according to different contexts and other variables. Female self-construction and representation is a crucial domain which is affected by many social factors. The present research deals with construction and representation of self. The data for the present research has been collected from the 4 colleges, 2 belonging to urban area and 2 of peripheries. The participants of the research are girls of 1st year and 4th year. The present research analyses the construction and representation of self as a result of formal literacy. It also considers how formal literacy plays a role in the construction and representation of self. For the present research, the researchers have collected the data from the mentioned 4 colleges. The participants of the research are 200 female students, including 100 from 1st year and 100 from 4th year. The present research employs an amended model to analyze the data. The amended model consists of Fairclough's (2012) critical social analysis, Gee's (1999) cultural model of discourse and Street's (1984) ideological model of literacy. The data has been analyzed keeping into mind the 9 analytical devices i.e. implicature, identity, metaphor, comparisons, representations, back grounding, inclusion/exclusion, dialogically and difference. Moreover, the researchers have categorized the data into the dominant emerging themes, which have been classified and analyzed under separate headings, these dominant emerging themes are, religiosity, family background, identity (naming), desires and self, self through lexicalization, roles and relationships, conceptual metaphors and use of 1st person pronoun (I/we). The data has been analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Based on the analysis of data the findings of the research suggest that self is not an absolute term, its construction and representation keeps on changing because of different variables, one of them is formal literacy. Moreover, the study contends that   construction and representation of self is an ever-ongoing process

    Relationship Between Science Classroom Psychosocial Learning Environment and Secondary School Students’ Motivation

    The learning environment of a classroom plays an integral role in students’ life. If a student’s surrounding environment is good then they perform well in studies. Learning environments are of different types like physical environment, social environment, psychological environment, instructional environment and psychosocial environment. Among these, Psychosocial learning environment is very important. It not only encourages the science learners to learn new things but also enhances their motivation for science learning.  The aim of this study is to investigate of relationship between science classroom psychosocial learning environment and secondary school students ‘motivation. The research design used is descriptive and quantitative in nature. Population of the study consisted of 10th grade Secondary School Students’ who enrolled in all the campuses of District public school Okara during academic session 2016-2018.The total numbers of students were 1146.The random sampling technique was used to select the sample. Two Questionnaires were used to collect the data about the perceptions of students for psychosocial environment and motivation.  Collected data were tabulated in SPSS (version24) and then analyzed by using one sample t-test, and two way between groups analysis of variance (Two-way ANOVA). Significant difference between science classroom psychosocial learning environment and secondary school students’ motivation in science classes was found for Student Cohesiveness, Teacher Support, Involvement, and Equity
