    Parenting Style as a Cognitive Factor in Developing Big-Five Personality Traits among Youth: A Study of Public University in Multan, Pakistan

    The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between parenting styles (authoritarian, authoritative and permissive) and Big-five personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism, conscientiousness and openness) among the students of Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, Pakistan. For this purpose, a total number of 281 students from different faculties (Natural and social sciences) were selected through systematic sampling technique and the respondents responded to parenting authority questionnaire (PAQ) by Buri (1991) and Big-five inventory (BFI) john and Srivastava (1999). Data were analyzed by using SPSS-21 version, and Pearson correlation (r=0.01) was applied to find out the relationship, direction and consistency between predictor and criterion variable. Results indicated a directly proportional relationship between parenting styles (authoritarian, authoritative & permissive) and big five personality traits

    Impact Assessment of Devolution Paradigm in Primary Education Sector: Policy Initiatives and Budgetary Allocations in Punjab Province

    The study aims to empirically testify the devolution intervention in the budgetary allocations of the primary education sector of the Punjab province. It addresses the question; whether devolution intervention has an impact on primary education policy and input indicators or not? This study is based on Content Analysis to derive a meaningful conclusion about policy interventions. The budgetary interventions are verified by Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and Descriptive Discriminant Analysis (DDA) to measure the impact of devolution intervention. The analysis shows that there is no mere shift in policy initiatives and budgetary allocations. However, the primary education sector is relatively better as compared to the pre-devolution period but still, a lot of interventions are required for further improvement. &nbsp

    Problems and Strategies to Maneuver Issues in Translation in the Subject of Law: An Analytical Study

    This article is an endeavor to spotlight the problems and difficulties in the process of translation of a text that is purely relevant to the field of law. Furthermore, this study also discusses strategies to counter hindrances in the process of translation of legal text and the viability of product or result (translated text from original text) produced after translation. For the purpose of this study, some translations have been selected to analyses the flaws in translations of statutory laws and Shar??ah sources. This research paper finds that for an effective an accurate translation, the translation practitioner needs expertise in source and target languages. Moreover, proficiency in the understanding of law filed is also required. Translation of meaning of the text is appreciated in the field of translation studies. At the end of this research paper, besides pointing out the translation problems in the field of law, some recommendations have been made to develop a viable strategy to handle translation problems. The researchers believe that the recommendations made as a result of this research paper, if implemented, could provide considerable strategies to resolve translation problems in the field of law

    Comparative Exploration of Psychological Health and Subjective Well-being among Fertile and Infertile Females

    Psychological health directly affects life satisfaction especially to those women who face social and family pressure about their infertility. A wide range of research studies comparing fertile and infertile women documented that there is negative impact of infertility on subjective well-being and global life satisfaction (Abbey et al., 1991, 1992; Callan, 1987; Callan& Hennessey, 1988). The present study was aimed to investigate the impact of psychological health on life satisfaction among fertile and infertile females. Through the convenience sampling technique, a sample of 310 (N=310) fertile and infertile women was selected whose age ranged between 25 to 50 years. Demographic variables included age, employment status, level of education, duration of marital life, type of marriage and family system for both fertile and infertile females. To be included in sample, Women must have been diagnosed with infertility (primary or secondary), they must not have adopted any child, and marriage duration must be at least 2 years and must not have past history of psychiatric illness. General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) was used for current psychological health and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) was used to measure life satisfaction. Data was analyzed by using SPSS version 21. Descriptive statistics, Regression analysis, ANOVA and t-test were used to analyze the data. Results have shown that psychological health has impact on life satisfaction in both fertile and infertile groups of women. Furthermore, results show that level of life satisfaction and psychological health is more prevalent in educated and employed women as compared to uneducated and unemployed women. To conclude, this study will be helpful in resolving psychological problems of the infertile females. Education can increase awareness about infertility and infertile females can meet the challenges of the society and can stand with better health and emotions

    University Students’ Attitude towards Affective Domain of Academic Writing: Gender Differences and Association with Achievement

    Language is the very basic source of transferring ideas, thoughts, beliefs, and feelings to others, and, therefore, plays highly important role in academic life of a student. Among the four basic language skills, the role of writing skill is considered the strongest for the development of the learners. Of the writing skills, students’ academic writing skills is highly focused area, as it is a mean of written communication and, therefore, essential for the academic and professional achievement of learners. Research demonstrates that students’ academic writing skills are also linked with their attitude towards writing in all domains of Bloom’s taxonomy i.e., cognitive, affective, and the behavioral. Considering the importance of the affective domain of students’ academic writing, this research is especially focused on examining university students’ attitude towards affective domain of academic writing. Furthermore, current research study would also examine students’ attitude towards affective domain of academic writing from the perspectives of gender differences, discipline-wise differences, undergraduate and postgraduate differences, and its association with students’ achievement. The current study is descriptive in nature and uses survey research design. For sampling, multistage cluster method was adopted. Total sample size of the current study comprised 972 university students. Tool of the study was a questionnaire, which comprised two sections. The first section of questionnaire focused on collecting demographic data from the participants, while the second section comprised five-point Likert scale, with a set of ten statements regarding students’ attitude towards affective domain of academic writing. First comprised arithmetic mean and SD, while t-test was used from inferential statistics. The results showed that although university students from Multan City have low moderate positive attitude towards Blooms’ affective domain of academic writing, but some gender and discipline-wise differences exist

    Islamic Finance and Economic Growth Nexus: An Econometric Analysis

    Researchers have written chain of research papers about the dynamics of financial development and economic growth. The financial capital plays a productive role when it delivers to economic agents who are facing shortage or excess of funds.  This study explores the linkages among Islamic financing and economic growth for Pakistan, by using annual time series data from 2005-2018. Islamic banks’ financing funds used as a proxy of Islamic financing, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF), labor force (LF),Broad money(M) and Trade openness (TO) to presents real sector of an economy. For the exploration, the unit root test, Ordinary least square technique and Granger causality test are applied. The results validate a substantial causal relationship of Islamic financing and GDP, which supports the Schumpeter’s supply-leading view. The results indicate that Islamic finance contributed towards economic growth. &nbsp

    Effect of Liberating Approach of Teaching on Students’ writing skills in English at Secondary School

    Current The major purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of liberating approach of teaching with banking approach of teaching in the subject of English at secondary level in Pakistan. In order to develop the rational of the study, an experiment was devised to identify the effect of liberating approach of teaching on students’ achievement in the subject of English at secondary school level. Through this approach student creativity and mental power is stimulated and better used in academic and social context. The population of the study was included all the students of science and arts enrolled in 9th class in girls’ comprehensive higher secondary school of the Multan city. The researcher was selected two intact group sections of English medium science and both the sections have total 104 students. The study was Quasi Experimental with a Non-equivalent control group pre-test post-test design. One section was randomly selected an experimental group (X1) and the other was assigned to control group (X2).A pre-test and post-test were developed by the researcher, through carefully reviewing the methods of test development regarding quantifying students language skill, that is writing skills. A panel assessed the validity of both the test. The test had 50 marks for writing capacity (writing skills test).A pilot study was conducted to validate the instruments .The results also showed that treatment enhanced the achievement level of the experimental group in English. The researcher has confirmed that liberating approach is connected with learning techniques and strategies; and it is recommended that teacher of English should apply liberating approach to improve writing skills of the students in the classes. The findings revealed that liberating approach is more effective as compared to banking approach (traditional) of teaching. It is recommended that the teachers should apply liberating approach of teaching in the classes in order to improve writing skills of the students

    Families have vital role in the medical care of Alzheimer's which is most common among the old age people. It I is kind of dementia that fosters problems in the thinking, memory and the incapability to activate modest implementations, or orient clothing to the human body. In such cases family members have vital role for the care of patients. Dressing of Alzheimer`s patient is main tension for care contributors therefore this research discourse the dressing difficulties to Alzheimer`s patient encountered by care givers. A qualitative research method found to explore care givers perception about dressing issues that arise when their family member loss the capacity to dress independently. In-depth-interview was used as a data collection instrument from the care givers of the patients. Doctors were also interviewed to acquire the understanding about Alzheimer disease. In order to improve the quality of care givers survives and sustain their ability to sustenance and care for the enduring adaptive dress is very valuable as it provides ease to them while dressing. Therefore after examination of interviews researcher identified dressing difficulties and believers clothing adaptations that provide accessibility to care giver.  

    Basic Language Skills as a Tool for Enhancing Students' Learning: A Case Study of Undergraduates' Perceptions

    Four basic and interrelated language skills i.e., listening, reading, writing and speaking have long been used by language teachers as a prerequisite as well as an indispensable part of foreign language teaching. In this context, the key intent of this survey design quantitative study was to examine views of undergraduate students about the extent of efficacy of these basic language skills in enhancing their learning and how students approach and use each of the skills. The data used to reach the conclusions were collected through a 23 item self-developed questionnaire comprising four sub-scales i.e., listening (5 items), reading (9 items), writing (5 items),  and speaking (4 items).  The questionnaire was administered to a sample of 207 male and female students randomly selected from three departments of one public university in Pakistan. Based on the descriptive and inferential analyses of students’ responses, it was concluded that students consider all the four basic language skills as an effective and helpful tool for enhancement of their learning as well as delivery of information. The study finally recommends teaching these skills to students at early educational levels with different methods and approaches to make them more successful and willing learners

    Perceived Usage and Benefits of Metacognitive Strategies by University Students

Metacognitive strategies are those learning devices which become learners’ need for their optimal learning. Likewise, metacognitive strategies enable learners to become more confident, skillful, self-evaluator, and more independent by managing and directing their learning process at their own in the best way. Considering the benefits of using metacognitive strategies for students, the theme has not been qualitatively explored about the use of strategies by the students in universities of Pakistan. The purpose of this research work is to explore the perceived use, the extent of use, and benefits of metacognitive strategies by university students in Multan City. Survey research design was used for the accomplishment of the objectives. All students of three public sector universities of Multan city were selected as population. Qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis. The process started by tracing themes, followed by calculation of frequencies and percentages of students’ opinions to explore the frequency of use, extent of use, benefits, and awareness about using metacognitive strategies by university students. For calculation of frequencies and percentages, basic statistics was used. The results found that summarization, highlighting, note taking, bulleting and the concept mapping are the most frequently used learning strategies by university students. It was further found that most of the students use metacognitive strategies during exams, quizzes and tests, but their learning process was improved by using metacognitive strategies. It was recommended for the teachers to promote usage of group learning, discussion method and book reading habits among students and for the policy makers and teachers to create awareness about the frequent use, benefits and importance of metacognitive strategies in the improvement of university students’ learning
