Between stigma and support : A discourse analysis of scientific representations of men with sexual thoughts about children

    No full text
This study examines how men with sexual thoughts about children, who have not committed offenses, are represented in scientific literature. Using a structured literature review and critical discourse analysis, twelve peer-reviewed articles were analyzed through the lens of Foucault´s theory of power and Connell´s theory of hegemonic masculinity to examine how identity, stigma and language influence help-seeking and prevention. The results show that these men are often constructed as morally suspect, living with a double identity marked by self-surveillance and internalized shame. Although some discourses recognize their desire for self-control and support, dominant narratives frequently equate attraction with danger, limiting possibilities for early interventions. A key conclusion is that effective prevention is obstructed by stigma and the lack of safe, professional spaces for disclosure and support. Preventive efforts must not only focus on post-offense responses, but also provide accessible, non-judgemental pathways for at-risk individuals before harm occurs. This requires a shift in how social work, policy, and public discourse understand and engage with this marginalized group.

NURSES' EXPERIENCES OF CARING FOR ADULT PATIENTS WITH HEART IMPLANTS IN PALLIATIVE CARE : A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW WITH A QUALITATIVE APPROACH

    No full text

Investigating the Role of News Media in Stigmatization : A Case Study of the Most-read Swedish Newspaper and its Perpetuation of Weight-based Stigma

    No full text
The purpose of this study was to investigate the perpetuation of weight-based stigma in Swedish news media which was done by conducting a textual content analysis of articles published in the most-read daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter between 1995 and 2024. 243 articles containing the words “overweight and obesity” were analyzed quantitatively, 15 of which were selected for a more detailed qualitative content analysis. To determine whether stigma was reproduced, the articles were checked for the components Labeling, Responsibility, and Peril from the Model of Stigma Communication. It was found that all components were present during all three decades and that mentions of overweight strongly increased in the early 2000s. A nuanced framing of responsibility was identified, including individual and shared responsibility. The danger of obesity was consistently emphasized, while the portrayal of obesity as an economic burden has decreased and news coverage of overweight has become more scientific

Designing a security awareness program against phishing attacks based on best practices for an organisational setting

    No full text
Phishing attacks are one of the biggest threats that organizations face in today's society. Despite new advancements in detecting these types of threats with the help of machine learning, the human factor is still the biggest vulnerability that is being exploited by attackers. This thesis investigates the best practices for mitigating or preventing phishing attacks against organizations and design a security awareness program from these practices. The methods being used are literature review complemented with semi-structured interviews with employees working in cybersecurity within an organization. The collected research data indicates a rapid growth of phishing attacks, especially with the help of AI, and as a result of this the security awareness training needs to keep up with these developments and be conducted regularly. The findings will help design an effective security awareness program based on the best practices from the data collected

“Cheers to Peace after Victory” : A Qualitative Case Study of the 2025 Supra on Rustaveli Avenue

    No full text
This thesis explores how the Georgian supra tradition was reimagined as an act of nonviolent resistance during the New Year’s Eve protest on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi, following the disputed 2024 parliamentary elections. Drawing on Gene Sharp’s theory of nonviolent struggle and John Paul Lederach’s theory and methodology of moral imagination, this study examines how protesters employed cultural rituals to counter state-led polarisation and disinformation under Georgian Dream’s authoritarian rule. Through semi-structured interviews with participants and the use of media outlet publications, the research explores how the traditional Georgian feast, “supra,” was transformed into a tool of nonviolent resistance that embodied collective defiance, dialogue, and unity. The Supra functioned as an ‘invented tradition,’ in Eric Hobsbawm’s terms, creatively reframed to challenge Georgian Dream’s oppressive narratives and construct a counter-hegemonic vision of peace, identity, and democratic belonging. While the event fostered strong intra-movement cohesion, it also showed limitations in engaging actors outside the resistance, particularly Georgian Dream leaders and their adamant supporters. Ultimately, the thesis calls for further research into how invented traditions are framed and operate within nonviolent resistance movements to promote inclusive social change and resist violent structures

Cross-cultural validation of the German Paediatric Evaluation Disability Inventory - Computer Adaptive Test : A comparative study with American normative standard scores

    No full text
The Paediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI), has been revised as a computer adaptive test; the PEDI-CAT. Many items have been added making it relevant for children and youth from birth to 20 years of age. The PEDI-CAT measures performance in the Functional Skills domains of Daily Activities, Mobility and Social/Cognitive. The PEDI-CAT's Responsibility domain measures the extent to which the caregiver or child takes responsibility for managing complex, multi-step life tasks. In this exploratory study the normative scores of children with typical development of Switzerland (n = 51) and Germany (n = 61) were compared with the American normative sample to investigate its applicability. The mean age of the children was 5.78 years with a standard deviation of 1.39 years and a range of 4.10 years. Statistically significant differences in comparison with the mean normative scores with moderate to strong effect were found in all domains. Still, 95% or more of all scores from the participants were within a 2 standard deviation range from the mean normative scores. The results indicate that the normative scores should right now be applied to the German version of the PEDI-CAT with caution. Further studies are needed to further investigate applicability of the normative values

First-principles study of dynamic instability and phase transformation in the WRe and WOs sigma phase

    No full text
The formation of the intermetallic phase (space group ⁢42/⁢⁢) has a detrimental effect on the ductility of transition-metal alloys. This theoretical study uses first-principles calculations to investigate the stability and thermodynamic properties of the WRe and WOs phases. Our study indicates that the phase becomes thermodynamically stable at its ideal composition for temperatures above 1050 K and 130 K for the WRe and WOs phases, respectively. We find that models that neglect the phonon contribution to the free energy may underestimate the amount of disorder in the phase at elevated temperatures. Furthermore, the phase becomes dynamically unstable for Re concentrations above 73 at.% Re and 53 at.% Os. For the WOs phase, the dynamic stability is sensitive to the lattice site occupation, and vibrations of the Os atoms are linked to the transformation into a dynamically stable orthorhombic phase

Groupthink in the Green Transition : A Critical Analysis of Boden Municipality’s Communication Regarding the Stegra Steel Plant

    No full text
The Municipality of Boden is one of the municipalities at the center of Sweden’s green transition. In 2021, it was announced that the fossil-free steel factory Stegra would be built in the municipality. This marks a major transformation for the small town in Norrbotten, that requires cooperation. Housing must be built, the infrastructure must be adapted and major investments are required. But this does not intimidate the Municipality of Boden, they want to become a municipality of the future and a role model for the rest of Sweden. Bodens communication is characterized by a positive vision of the future, but critics do not quite share the same optimistic view. Has the Municipality of Boden fallen victim to groupthink? Through a critical analysis on the municipality’s public communication regarding Stegra, it can be concluded that the municipality’s communication carries both risks and symptoms of groupthink, a condition in which the group overestimates its own abilities and see criticism as a threat to its success. By repeatedly defending Stegra and dismissing criticism, the municipality’s credibility and legitimacy can depend on how well Stegra succeeds with their steel factory
