    No full text
This thesis focuses on the development of an automated solution that can detect defects in chrome faucets by utilizing modern machine-learning techniques. The main goal was to optimize the accuracy and efficiency of detecting surface defects, therefore enhancing quality assurance in manufacturing operations. The project involved collecting a dataset of chrome faucet images, which was subsequently enhanced using methods such as horizontal flips, rotations, brightness modifications, and the addition of Gaussian noise to enhance diversity. The augmented dataset was utilized to train CNN and SVM for defect detection. A real-time defect detection solution has been developed with the ability to capture images from a camera and analyze them to find any defects. The models were assessed according to their accuracy and resilience in detecting surface defects under various circumstances. The results showed that the installed setup effectively decreases the need for manual inspections and offers consistent and accurate defect identification. Ultimately, this work has effectively created a defect detection solution based on machine learning that can be seamlessly incorporated into factory settings to improve quality control. The results emphasize the possibility of utilizing CNN and SVM for automated defect detection, paving the way for more consistent and precise quality assurance procedures in industrial applications

How Important Are Expectations of Future Income for Ninth Graders? : A Quantitative Study about Meaningful Factors in the Upper Secondary School Choice

    No full text

    No full text
BACKGROUND: Childhood maltreatment has detrimental health consequences. Risk for economic marginalization in adulthood is less clear. OBJECTIVE: To assess prospective associations between sexual abuse, paternal rejection and maternal rejection in childhood and indicators of economic marginalization. We also examined whether these associations were moderated by the adult women's own education and social support. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: A population-based cohort of 643 Swedish women aged 20-25 were asked to retrospectively report on childhood maltreatment. Information on economic marginalization was obtained from register follow-up until 2017. METHODS: Cox proportional hazard regression was used to assess the associations between childhood maltreatment and incident economic marginalization, and whether these associations were modified by the women's education and social support in adulthood. Regression models were adjusted for parental characteristics and the women's contentment with life at examination. RESULTS: Sexual abuse increased the risk of financial welfare assistance and disability pension, but no association with long-term unemployment was observed. Paternal but not maternal rejection was associated with excess risk of long-term unemployment, financial welfare assistance, and disability pension. Social support in adulthood did not moderate the associations, but associations between paternal rejection and long-term unemployment were stronger among women with university education than among women with less education. CONCLUSIONS: This study found childhood sexual abuse and paternal rejection as risk factors for economic marginalization among adult women. Future studies should investigate the reasons for the differential impact of paternal and maternal rejection and the excess risk among highly educated women

Key Performance Index for Creating an Integrated and Sustainable Academy : A University with the Ability to Meet Future Needs and Challenges Identified in Society and Industry

    No full text
Key performance indexes (KPIs) in various forms have always been used in one way or another in the production and processing of raw materials. The need for KPIs was accentuated with the advent of industrialism in the western world. The way and strategy of manufacturing industrial products has been divided into several so-called developmental transformations. Primarily after the depression of the 1930s and after the Second World War, a way of working and a basic view was gradually created that has resource efficiency and goal achievement as a fundamental idea. This publication describes how KPIs can be used in higher education to create a sustainable academy to meet challenges in industry and society over time. This with a focus on sustainability and continuity as well as a strategic integration between the academy’s various missions. These missions consist of teaching, research and collaboration. Furthermore, according to the Higher Education Ordinance, teaching shall rest on a scientific basis and, when appointing senior positions, equal weight shall be attached to the merits that can be linked to teaching and research. In addition to teaching and research, collaboration must be conducted with the surrounding society. Society places increasing demands on the knowledge conveyed in teaching to harmonize with current needs and to prepare for future needs and challenges. A starting point for the publication is that needs and challenges can best be met through a conscious and strategic integration between the academy’s various missions. Another aspect that is highlighted in this publication is the importance of strengthening the collaboration between basic subjects and more applied and industry-related subjects, which provides renewal in the applied subjects at the same time as the basic research can be utilized at a higher rate. In an industrial perspective, a more continuous TRL scale is obtained, which provides a more effective implementation of research results. A development path that strengthens the Academy’s mission areas is the principle of affiliation of personnel from industry and other sectors of society and increased admission of industrial doctoral students and other external doctoral students. In order to monitor the development of the respective mission areas of academia and its integration, the use of KPIs will be addressed. A discussion of their benefits will be highlighted but also the associated difficulties, especially when conditions change. The conducted literature study shows that there are very few or rather no found publications dealing with KPIs for the integration of the Academy’s different missions. KPIs are well developed for higher education in terms of its implementation and associated economics. Corresponding published work related to KPIs in research deals primarily with conventional academic bibliometrics. CC-BY-NC 4.0</p

Ideas on how educators facilitate interprofessional learning through controversies

    No full text
Constructive controversies, where team members discuss their differentopinions openly and politely, can stimulate interprofessional learning(IPL): the learning that occurs in the interactions between two or moredifferent professions. However, in science-based controversies where members compete to be the expert learning becomes complicated. This paper constructs a model for a procedure of a science-based controversyand describes the conditions for IPL in such a setting. The basis for the model is an empirical study. Firstly, we describe how constructive controversies are conceptualised in the literature. We include literature on dialogic teaching and learning. Secondly, we describe how science-basedcontroversies are conceptualised. Thirdly, we present the empirical study. Fourthly, we construct the model which focuses on mental health careprofessionals but is also applicable to other professionals. The findingssuggest a model with three contextual factors which are connected to theuse of power strategies and learning strategies. The model gives ideas foreducators on why and how to use science-based controversies to facilitateIPL in teamwork. Indirectly a theory is introduced of how to strengthen IPL through controversies. The model is relevant in teaching how controversies which often concern what is best for the users/patients can be handled constructively.CC-BY 4.0</p
