From Forced Sterilizations to Special Pedagogics : What defines the threshold level for normality?

    No full text

The human right to mental healthcare : Bridging the rights-gap for women subjected to sexual violence

    No full text
Sexual violence against women is not only a serious public health problem of epidemic proportions, it’s also a violation of women’s human rights. The devastating consequences of these events on women’s health have been widely documented. The overarching purpose of this thesis is therefore to explore why public healthcare facilities around the world often fail to provide victims of sexual violence with mental healthcare of good quality that is available, accessible and acceptable. In order to investigate this, the legal grounds of specialized healthcare for victims of sexual violence was documented. Secondly, an exploration of whether the Swedish healthcare system provides victims of sexual violence with access to the highest attainable standard of mental healthcare was carried out. Lastly, the history of violence against women was explored in order to identify reasons for why the right to mental healthcare often fail to work in practice for female victims of sexual violence despite apparent agreements. Also, constructive suggestions are put forth regarding what governments can do to provide victims of sexual violence with access to the highest attainable standard of mental healthcare. An interdisciplinary approach of political sociology was used to illustrate the multiple dimensions of human rights. The findings suggest that the right to mental health is an integrated part of the right to health and thus a fundamental right for all human beings. However, the results indicate that the right to mental healthcare for women who have been subjected to sexual violence is not available, accessible and of good quality within the Swedish healthcare system. The study concludes that one of the main barriers to make the right to mental healthcare accessible for this group of patients is the lack of an officially recognized name that include the many different syndromes these women suffer. Findings are discussed in relation to previous research.

The Global Pursuit of Cheap Labor : the Race to the Bottom and the Moral Responsibility of the Consumer

    No full text
Aim: This study aims to analyze four strategies consumers use in order to avoid responsibility concerning the impact one’s clothing consumption can have on human rights. The purpose is to investigate whether the clothing industry contributes, or does not contribute, to human rights. Furthermore the aim is to analyze how these established arguments are justifiable in relation to a theory of moral responsibility. Methodology: This study includes a descriptive and normative argumentation analysis. The data that has been collected for this study mainly consists of various scientific reports from independent sources, reports from diverse human rights organizations and also sustainability reports from a few chosen clothing companies between the years 2015–2019. The chosen clothing companies included in this study were selected as being the largest within the fashion industry. Findings and conclusion: The results of this study are based on four pro-arguments and four contra-arguments which, respectively, are presented. The pro-argumentation supports the thesis that the clothing industry contributes to human rights whereas the counter argumentation undermines the thesis of the study. The facts presented in each argument successfully either support or undermine the thesis and therefore provide with the interpretation that there can be noted connections, as well as lack of connections, between the clothing industry and human rights. The conclusions presented from the analysis show that it is possible for consumers to use the described four strategies in order to avoid responsibility

The best place to be young and a female : a study about gender equality in Rwanda

    No full text

Towards an Intercultural Mission : A postcolonial feminist theological analysis of the international mission in the Uniting Church in Sweden

    No full text
The statement and the title of the thesis "Towards an intercultural mission" is the starting point for the essay's purpose and examination. Interculturalism is an ideal in which equality and re-ciprocity are characterized by cross-cultural relationships, which is also an objective of international mission. For an intercultural mission, it is therefore necessary to examine which factors may hinder an intercultural approach, which, for this study, justifies searching for underlying unequal structures. The theoretical frame of reference for the analysis is postcolonial theory and feminist theology, which makes it possible to visualize such structures. The purpose of the thesis is therefore to analyze the intention of the international mission work in the Uniting Church in Sweden based on postcolonial feminist theology, and to propose criteria that need to be found for the mission work to be characterized by an intercultural approach. In order to achieve the purpose, it is necessary to answer the following general questions: 1. Is there an awareness of unequal power structures in the culture-crossing relationships in the intentional discourse on mission in the Uniting Church in Sweden? 2. How does interculturalism appear in the international mission in the Uniting Church in Sweden?And; 3. What criteria need to be found for the mission work to be characterized by an intercultural approach? With the help of qualitative content analysis of the Church's public text material, which constitutes the study object; six thematic areas have emerged; gender equality, woman's vulnerability, patriarchal structures, mission and worldview, postcolonial structures, and cooperation and reciprocity. The result has been analyzed on the basis of the concept of interculturality and a proposal for criteria for an intercultural approach has been prepared, among other things, with proposals for clarification of unequal power structures and a critical self-awareness about their own history and cultural values

לב

    No full text
The aim of this study is to analyse how the Hebrew word heart, לב, is used in the Old Testament: as an expression of the intellect, emotions, actions – all of those or only the intellect. The study also aims to see if the author, or groups of authors of the different texts where לב appears affect the use of the word. I work inductively with a lexical invention of the texts and I do an analysis on some different text to see if there are any differences
