”A Streak of Heaven, on the Mountain, in the Middle of the City” : Implicit Ecclesiology inthe Church of Engelbrekt
Deportation due to crime
An alien who commits a crime with imprisonment in the penalty scale can be expelled from Sweden. In order for deportation to be relevant, the alien must be sentenced to a more severe punishment than a fine. In examining the issue of deportation, the court must also take into account the alien's connection to Swedish society and make an overall assessment where the reasons for and against deportation are weighed against each other. If the alien has resided in Sweden for a longer period of time, special reasons for deportation are required, which provides a very strong protection for the alien. The legislation on deportation due to crime is sparsely worded and entails ambiguities in many respects. Examples of ambiguities are which factors get into a recidivism risk assessment when there is no previously documented crime and how the factors in the assessment of an alien's connection to Sweden are to be evaluated. The problem with these ambiguities entails difficulties in predicting the outcome of the overall assessment that the court makes when the reasons for and against deportation are weighed against each other. It is reasonable to assume that the ambiguities can also lead to equal cases not being treated equally as the court is given a great deal of room for interpretation in its overall assessment. From a legal security perspective, these circumstances are problematic as legal security is largely based on the law being predictable. In order to remedy the problem, the legislator must take a clearer position and dare to legislate on the issues. Keywords: Alien, crime, deportation, severe punishment, legislation
The perception of professionals in the non-profit sector about the impact of pornography inyoung people's relationship in Sweden : Sexual violence, human rights, consent and gender
The thesis of this essay explores if there is a causation in youth (15-25 years) partnerrelationships between pornography consumption and sexual violence. The analysis includedperspectives of human rights, gender and consent. It has also been examined how to counteractthese issues and who’s responsibility it is to do so. These questions have been asked to sevenprofessionals in non-profit organizations through an interview study. A survey with 19-yearolds in high school about their experiences with pornography and sexual violence was alsomade. Because of low participation in the survey only part of it will be shown in the analysis. To process all the data of the studies, theories of gender and consent have been used. The resultsshowed that youths that contacts the non-profit organisations feel that they need to do whateversexual act that their partner wants them to. They could not always see themselves thatpornography was affecting their relationships and that the acts they were forced to do wasinspired from pornography. The questions asked to the youths played a role in how much of acausation the organisations could see. Pornography is not the only reason that sexual violencehas increased among youths, there are other things contributing, like how the whole society isvery sexualized and is very tolerant to violence in general. The youths had a hard timedetermining what sexual violence is and how complex consent is. Gender norms put pressureon them to act a certain way in their partner relationships and talk a special way about violence, sex and pornography. To see the causation, you need to have the knowledge about violence, gender and how to talk to youths. We cannot stop the use of pornography, but we can learn howto talk to young people about it and work pre-emptive to prevent more issues to evolve. Sexualviolence is a rights issue, but those rights that protect you from violence is not helpful inrestricting pornography. Conventions can be used to put more pressure on the state of Swedento act against these issues. Harmful standards must be prevented and there needs to be supportand openness to talk to youths about these issues
”Death in vain forbids His rise” : The significance of Jesus' death and resurrection according to five pastors
Rightwing populism is characterized by critique of immigration, but populist parties also address existential anxieties of late or liquid modernity. I argue that regular churchgoers reject the Sweden Democrats not only because they hold different opinions on immigration, but also due to their strong social capital. The latter helps them cope with modern anxieties, and this makes them less inclined to accept the message of the populists
The Love Commandment and Politics : An analysis of The Church of Sweden’s Engagement in Migration Politics
The church of Sweden has several times engaged in migration politics. In this study the use of the love commandment by national level of the church of Sweden to motivate its engagement in migration politics. The analysis is based on deconstruction of the leaflet “Detta vill vi! Kyrkorna och migrationsfrågorna”. Within the deconstruction three themes are identified that relate to movement, inclusion and power, respectively. Further, the material from the deconstruction is discussed from the ethics of Reinhold Niebuhr and Jacques Derrida. A result of the deconstruction is that the concept church as something transcendent or as an organization has an impact on the communication of the love commandment. Based on the results of the study, it is recommended that the self-love of the human being should be brought up in a leaflet as ”Detta vill vi! Kyrkorna och migrationsfrågorna”. Another result is that within the message of the church there is an inherent conflict between Jesus’ message of love and the political laws, and this conflict would need to be illustrated in the text.
"Excluding Swedishness" or just racism? : A critical discourse analysis on the public debate on racism from Black Lives Matter in Sweden
During 2020, the human rights movement Black Lives Matter, BLM, gathered new momentum after the eight minute recorded murder of George Floyd by an American police officer caught widespread global attention. By the end of the year the BLM protests had spread internationally, with a purpose to most of all bring the issues of structural racism in their own country to the surface. This sparked a debate in Sweden and earlier research show that the dominant understanding of racism is that of racism as individual, caused by certain deviant individuals. The structural understanding of racism, the one where racism is a global power structure, has been on the outer margins of the Swedish debate since the 90’s, but gathered more spread from 2012 and forward thanks to academics and journalists studying post-colonialism, but the individual understanding of racism is still the dominant one. This study aims to analyze and gain a deeper understanding of how ideas are constructed around the understanding of racism in Sweden in relation to BLM and to analyze main arguments and patterns to see if gaslighting is exercised. With structural racism and gaslighting as theoretical frames together with Norman Faircloughs critical discourse analysis as method, the study finds that the debate was still in those two different understandings; questioning discourse and reproducing discourse. Within the questioning discourse, postcolonial ideas and theories were being made, while the reproducing discourse would admit to structural racism in America, but denied its existence in Sweden. They denied structural racism by accusing BLM and the antiracists of importing American “race ideas”, importing a “made up history” to Sweden which are all patterns aligned with gaslighting. Which one of these discourses that will “win” will have an impact on our view of racism and will thus have political, judicial, structural and social consequences along with changes for systems of knowledge and meaning.
Standpoint of view on Communion : A conparative study between sister churches: Svenska Missionskyrkan, Covenant Church in USA and Pactokyrkan in Ecuador
Landscape Theology : Exploring the Outfields of the Telemarkian Dream Song
The article explores the Norwegian ‘national ballad’ Draumkvæde (the Dream Song) in Maren Ramskeid’s version. This work has traditionally been interpreted as a folklore adaptation of medieval visionary literature such as the Vision of Tundale, related to Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. The ballad, however, lacks demons and devils and infernal torture – it is even almost completely devoid of human beings. Instead it tells of a corporeal encounter with an imagined natural landscape. This dreamscape of the song is intimately intertwined with the local terrain of the singer. Maren Ramskeid engaged her own landscape in Telemark, the article argues, to decentre the canonized Christian text and the cultivated Christian building. Speaking an oral outdoor theology, she destabilized the heaven–hell dualism and envisioned a mythological landscape where nature turns dangerously and painfully on those who do not abide by its unwritten norms, but where all are eventually saved by a final judgement in a place called Broksvalin. The lost children : A qualitative text analysis on the causes of unaccompanied children disappearing in Sweden and the consequences thereof from a child perspective
The aim of this thesis has been to identify the causes and consequences of unaccompanied children disappearing. The method used in the study is a qualitative text analysis where approaches aim to investigate a problem that exists in society, but where it is important to describe and understand the reality that the unaccompanied children who disappear in Sweden go through. The results analyzed are based on the three most common causes and consequences of unaccompanied children disappearing. The causes show that there is a huge concern among the children before they turn 18 years old, a lack of participation of the child in the placement of it and mental ill-health and trauma. The children have a great sense of fear, which is based on the feeling of hopelessness and of getting a negative response on their asylumapplication. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that the consequences that children face when they turn to living on the streets are that they are exposed to human trafficking, sexual exploitation, other forms of crime and drugs. When children deviate and disappear, it becomes difficult to fulfil many of their rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child. By analyzing the causes and consequences from a child's perspective, one better understands the reasons why children differ and how important it is to handle situations according to achild'sperspective by listening to children. This study also highlights and clarifies problems that children meet in the asylumprocess, in which authorities often fail in the safe reception and care of the unaccompanied asylum seeking children that deviate and disappear
