”The institutionalized forms of relations with God are simply not flexible enough” : Queer theological perspectives on exclusion and activism
No full textThe aim of this study is to explore whether activism can counteract and prevent exclusion in Christian tradition and practice. The analysis is helped by queer theologian Marcella Althaus-Reid as a primary theoretical standpoint. The study is based on Petra Carlsson's exploration of the queer nuns and activists: The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, and the movement will be elucidated and interpreted through queer theology as expressed by Althaus-Reid. The method used is a textual analysis, where the study will compare Althaus-Reid’s queer theology and Carlsson’s radical material theology; with the aim to present, analyse and discuss activism. First, Althaus-Reid’s queer theology is systematized thematically based on the studies analysis points: the body, symbols and activism. Secondly, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are presented and depicted through Carlsson’s interpretation of the movement. After this the queer nuns are compared to Althaus-Reid's queer theology, followed by a comparison of Althaus-Reid’s and Carlsson’s theologies. Lastly, with the help of Erik Gyll, the study discusses the situation for LGBT people in religious environments, such as church, and possible consequences of queer activism- and theology in Christian communities. Althaus-Reid emphasises the need to do theology from different bodies/parts, especially those that have been excluded. She wants to liberate theological concepts from a heteronormative framework, which she believes limits people’s understanding of and access to God. Multiplicity is also prominent with Carlsson. She advocates for a performative viewpoint, that through adding expressions and expanding the imagery, it is also possible to create and change reality. The analysis indicates a need for theology which can embrace real life and experiences. The research shows that for those who create and engage in alternative expressions or activism, such participation enables access to symbols and spaces from which they were previously excluded. Therefore, it is also reasonable to conclude that it is a relevant and fruitful approach as long as people are still excluded from Christian communities, and the church is not a safe place for everyone.

No full textThis paper explores the nature of the Primeval History and more specifically if there is a complication formulated here, that is later taken up or answered somehow in the rest of Genesis (or the Pentateuch). This is formulated as a question of if we can say that there is a plot in Genesis. Scholars such as Gerhard von Rad, David Clines, and Todd Patterson are reviewed. In dialogue with historical-critical research it is concluded that the relationship of the Primeval History to what follows is best understood in terms formulated by Georg Nicol as "rolling-plot," where a certain formulation of plot is not strictly followed to a denouement, but rather taken up and amended in a slightly different direction
”One could ask the question, whether Sweden was guilty of a cultural genocide when it Christianized the Lapps" : Why Sweden voted to delete ’cultural genocide’ from the Genocide Convention
No full textThis study is concerned with the drafting process of the 1948 Genocide Convention, specifically the deletion of the article regarding so called ”cultural genocide”. Sweden was one of the states who voted to delete the article, and this study asks the question why. Previous research on the article has concluded that the majority of the states voting to delete it were doing so to avoid being criminalized themselves due to their assimilationist policies towards minorities, and colonial governing. During negotiations Sweden explicitly referred to the Christianization of the Sami people, which further begs the question if Sweden were also acting because of those reasons. The study finds that, even though Sweden argued that cultural genocide was not as serious as the other forms of genocide, and that it was a better fit for a convention on human rights or minority protection, there is a real plausibility that the country were trying to avoid having a legally recognized genocide in its history. However, because of the vast amount of material available for interpretation of Sweden’s actions, more research is needed to make an even more certain conclusion

When fiction becomes reality : A literature study on the impact of pornography on adolescents’ intimate relationships
No full textYoung women have testified about how they feel forced to agree to hard sex that leaves them with pain and injuries. The aim of this study is to examine if there is a link between pornography and violence in adolescents’ intimate relationships. By using a theory that conducts that pornography consumers develops a sexual callousness, this study has analyzed materials selected through a coding process to answer the research questions and achieve the purpose of the study. A certain connection between pornography and violence was found as adolescents tend to use pornography as a way to get inspired and to learn about sex. When mainstream pornography contains violence and when school offer inadequate sex education, pornography sends out a one-sided depiction of sex that isn’t questioned or challenged. The author reached the conclusion that adolescents today are affected by pornography in a different way than older generations, because of how easily accessible internet pornography is today and because of how pornography has been normalized through media and therefor turned more hardcore. Further studies are considered necessary in order to investigate how the consequences of pornography can be prevented among adolescents, and measures has to be taken to educate teachers in order to give children and adolescents adequate sex education
Wedding Service Theology in Practice : Case Studies of Wedding Services in the Church of Sweden from the perspective of Liturgical Theology, Performance Theory and Ritual Theory
No full textIn this essay I have studied wedding services in the Church of Sweden, as they are actually performed. I do this from a liturgical-theological perspective, a performance- perspective and from the perspective of ritual studies. According to the performance- perspective the wedding service can be seen as consisting of different scripts, for example, the normative script of the handbook, the script of the wedding-couple and the script of the minister. The main question is: What is constructed when these three scripts meet in a wedding service? I first study each script. I give an account for the script of the handbook and analyse it by placing it in a historical, liturgical and theological context. The script of the wedding couple and the minister I uncover by participant observations of three wedding services and interviews with the couples and ministers acting in these services. Thereafter I analyse the scripts of the couples and the minsters looking at themes that appear to be important in these scripts and in the handbook. Such themes are the wedding service as a service of blessing, the legal aspect of the service, the construction of family through marriage, love, the service as a ritual, the setting of the wedding, the role of the minister, the importance of participation and the role of the music. I conclude that the three scripts are indeed three very different scripts, but when they are juxtaposed a new meaning is constructed. This can occur even if the script are not correlating or even to some extent collides. One important factor for meaning to be constructed is the ritualization, acts that make the service a ritual. This seems to be more important than the fact that the scripts correlate. Another important factor for meaning to be constructed is that the scripts actually meet, that they actually are juxtaposed together. For this to happen the minister has to clarify his/her own script and be responsive to the couple’s script. Then the minister can relate their script to blessing, prayer and scripture. Normatively, I conclude that the wedding service becomes a meaningful wedding service when the couple’s scripts are related to the greater, transcendent Scrip
Sextortion : A Corruption Perspective
No full textSextortion is a gendered form of corruption that takes place when those trusted with power abuse it, to sexually take advantage of those dependent on that power. This type of crime has long been anonymous but it is gaining importance through reports, studies and awareness actions by well-known international organizations. The purpose of this study was to review sextortion from a corruption point of view. As well as to examine if sextortion has been integrated in Sida’s anticorruption agenda and map efficient actions against sextortion. By conducting a literature study and interviews, it has been possible to create a comprehensive description of its challenges. A feminist approach in combination with intersectionality helped to visualize how sextortion is trivialized and attributed as normalized and institutionalized in some parts of the world. The term sextortion is associated with several meanings that make unambiguous acceptance difficult. In the same way, it is difficult to identify sextortion in Sida's anti-corruption plan in spite of their commitment to fight sextortion. On the bright side, Jammu and Kashmir became in 2018 the first state in India to criminalize sextortion against women and sextortion has been included in the Global Corruption Barometer 2019 for LAC and MENA. To conclude, the best option is to incorporate sextortion under anti-corruption laws. Where there is an abuse of power and an undue advantage, should be enough to invoke the law
