Unaccompanied minors' experiences and Experiences of Sweden's Psychiatry Care : A Qualitative Study
This study explores the challenges that unaccompanied minors face in accessing healthcare, especially mental health services, in Sweden. It uses a qualitative approach with five partici-pants aged 18–25, who were previously unaccompanied minors. Through interviews, the study identifies themes and patterns related to the theoretical framework, incorporating the KASAM theory and transcultural psychiatry, which emphasize self-reflection and cultural factors. The results reveal difficulties such as fear of impacting the asylum process, language barriers, anda lack of knowledge within the healthcare system. The study aims to contribute to understanding and improvements within the healthcare system. Limitations include a focus on Swedish conditions and the age group of 18–25. Suggestions for future research involve exploring wait times for psychiatric care and effectively communicating knowledge about mental health to these children to identify areas for improvement in healthcare. Overall, the study underscores the need to overcome barriers, customize healthcare to individual needs, and enhance understanding of this vulnerable group
The rights of the child in asylum cases : An Examination of Current Law
This paper aims to examine how two of the four fundamental principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, namely the best interests of the child and the child's right to participation, are applied in asylum cases. The objective also includes investigating whether patterns in assessment can be discerned before and after the incorporation of the Convention into Swedish national legislation since 2020. The material encompasses five court decisions, relevant sections from the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Aliens Act, as well as pertinent previous research that aligns well with the purpose and questions of the paper. To address the objectives and questions, a legal dogmatic method has been chosen to scrutinize the five court decisions from the Migration Court of Appeal and the Migration Court based on prevailing law. The main results of the study have revealed a disparity between legislation and policy documents regarding how the best interests of the child and the child's right to participation are applied in practical contexts. A conclusion drawn is that by illuminating the issue from a human rights perspective with a legal dogmatic approach, this has contributed to highlighting the disparity between more abstract laws and their application in asylum cases
To What Do They Put Their Hope? : A Qualitative Study on the Impact of the Pandemic on Self-rated Health in Young Women
To get closer to an answer to the questions of how the pandemic affected one's mental health after the pandemic, but also how it affected one's church involvement and one's own faith in God, interviews were conducted with five young women, aged 19–25 years. I used a mixed method, namely three short questionnaires where the informants had to assess their mental, existential, physical, and social health, as well as describe their church involvement, before, during and after the pandemic. These questionnaires were then the basis for the interviews, where they had to nuance their answers even more. In this way, the study's material and empirical data were collected. This was then analyzed based on selected theories dealing with coping, religious coping, meaning-based coping, and spirituality processes. The results of the study show that the pandemic affected the informants in different ways and to different extents. What one brought into the pandemic when it comes to one's mental, existential, physical, and social health tends to influence how one coped with it and what consequences the pandemic created for one's well-being. On the other hand, most of the informants expressed that they take with them new perspectives and lessons learned from the pandemic that they did not have in the same way before. Much of what they mention is that you learned how the body works and that your well-being is better from physical activity, or that now, after the pandemic, you can choose in a different way what you want to be involved in when it comes to the social aspect, but also concrete social interactions and relationships. They prioritize their well-being and well-being in a different way
What shapes a pastor? : An interview study of five newly ordained pastors in the Uniting Church in Sweden about their ministerial education and training at Stockholm School of Theology
This study investigates formation during ministerial education and training by interviewing five newly ordained pastors within the Uniting Church in Sweden about their experience of what the Pastor’s program at Stockholm School of Theology have contributed to for being shaped and prepared as pastor. The study, which is qualitative and abductive, relates theoretically to Benjamin Bloom's cognitive, affective, and psychomotor learning domains that are translated into pastoral contexts for studying what the education has contributed to, as well as to David Kelsey's Athens-Berlin concept to compare the educational ideals of pastors, with the program’s institutional form of education. The results show that the factors that were achieved as most important in shaping and preparing the new pastors are: Internship and practice, Teachers and staff, Fellow students, Teaching, Retreats, devotions, individual conversations & joint trips, and Congregational life and pastors. These are summarized as Practice, Relations, Teaching and Practices (PRTP). The result also shows that it is crucial in which way these are conducted. The ways that have been positively formative for the pastors are described in the essay. The analysis shows that the pastors' ideals of education drawn from Kelsey, applied to Swedish post-secondary forms of education can be understood as a mixture of the ideals of university and folk high school, with an emphasis on folk high school - and that this conflicts with the church’s pastor's program whose form of education is a combination of university and church with a clear emphasis on university. Based on these findings, the study presents four opportunities for the Uniting Church in Sweden and the Stockholm School of Theology to reduce this tension. The essay also discusses similarities and differences with previous studies among other things in terms of what shapes and prepares for service, the possibility of three-part learning objectives, and the question of educational form
Children´s theological language : Children’s conception of reconciliation in critical relation to Miroslav Volf
In this essay I study how children construct their theological language in relation to the topic of reconciliation. The children's voices are put in critical dialog with the Croatian theologian Miroslav Volf’s notion of reconciliation in relation to embrace. The children’s perception of reconciliation develop and expand the theological concept of reconciliation. Seemingly, children's theological language describe reconciliation as an act that transcends time and space. Children construct their theological language through a materiality based on their own corporeal experiences of conflict and reconciliation.
A Policy Comparison of EU’s Responses to the Syrian and Ukrainian Refugees : With postcolonial theory and Mediated Discourse Analysis
For a long time, the situation of refugees and asylum seekers has been a source of concern for EU Member states. While different European countries' policies and practices have received much scrutiny, the discourses they produce are less visible in academia. This study thus explores the policy decisions and laws behind the EU’s responses to the refugee crises of 2015 and 2022 by comparing Syrian refugees to Ukrainian refugees in order to understand the distinction in treatment. Through a postcolonial perspective, this study employs a Mediated Discourse Analysis that presents a mainly conventional discourse of refugees and asylum seekers in the context of policies and laws. The analysis found a strong influence of ‘Eurocentrism’ through exclusionary policies, implying a continued concept of 'othering' and the 'myth of differences' as the underlying reason for different asylum policies and laws affecting the right to seek asylum.
How do masculinity norms affect the right to a fair trial? : An argumentative analysis of thecomplexity of masculinity norms and its impact on justice and equality within the frameworkof the right to fair trial.
Through an argumentation analysis and gender jurisprudence theory, this essay examines the complexity of masculinity norms and their connection with the legal system in western cultures. The analysis investigates how this connection affects equality and justice within the framework of the right to a fair trial. The results show that courts and juries' values regarding "appropriate" masculinity influence decision-making processes. The conclusion of the essay shows that depending on how men, in relation to masculinity norms, are evaluated by the legal system, as well as factors such as class, social position, ethnicity, age, and sexuality, there will be an impact on how men are judged in relation to acts of violence and crime
The Heavy Legacy of Wealth : A Study of Conflict-Driving Factors in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
This study aims to examine the key aspects of the thesis on corruption and the exploitation of natural resources and their connection to conflicts and the resource curse in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Through a qualitative content analysis, a thematic approach, and with a perspective rooted in the theoretical framework of the resource curse, the study seeks to identify and discuss the complex factors that drive and sustain instability in the country. Utilizing the resource curse theory, it is explained how natural resources not only fail to promote economic development, but also exacerbate conflicts and political instability. Furthermore, it is observed how the exploitation of natural resources, political instability and structural violence contribute to and maintain a cycle of insecurity in the country. With the theoretical application of the resource curse, the study concludes that power structures and hierarchies affect the distribution of assets and opportunities in society. This curse, deeply rooted in historical injustices and discriminatory norms, continues to reproduce itself through institutional and structural mechanisms.
