Responsibility as Principle : Crisis Management in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark Before COVID‐19
Following COVID-19, the responsibility principle guiding emergency preparedness and crisis management in Scandinavian countries has once again faced criticism. In order to make sense of the current discussions surrounding this principle, this study uses Bacchi's framework of “What's the problem represented to be” to explore its development and perceived problems and effects in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. The study examines how policy documents have problematized the responsibility principle and the historical contexts that prompted the adoption of the principle, tracing its evolution from 1989 to 2019, before the outbreak of COVID-19. It scrutinizes the role of key institutions, legislative changes, and historical events, such as crises and geopolitical shifts, in shaping crisis management practices. The analysis identifies several recurring issues in crisis management, highlighting two overarching problems: fragmented responsibilities and difficulties in balancing decentralization with centralization, both of which result in insufficient coordination. By comparing the experiences of these countries, this study provides valuable insights into the historical foundations and organization of crisis management systems in Scandinavia prior to COVID-19
A DOA-Driven Adaptive Framework for Smart Traffic and Street Lighting in WSN
Traffic management and street lighting optimization are increasingly dependent on intelligent systems for smart cities. The main objective of this paper is to design the Intelligent Traffic and Lighting Systems (ITLS) using the dream optimization algorithm (DOA) for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The system assimilates single-lane roads, moving vehicles, sensor-equipped streetlights, and a centralized control station. The fitness function of DOA optimizes network performance by balancing energy consumption, reducing congestion, and stabilizing vehicle speed variations. The network adjusts to changing traffic conditions, optimizing routes and lighting efficiency. The MATLAB simulation shows that DOA surpasses traditional rule-based systems by refining traffic flow while reducing energy usage. The performance of our proposed approach, DOA-ITLS, is compared with existing techniques like IB-SEC and KFFOA-PDES in terms of network lifetime, packet delivery, throughput, and energy efficiency. The protocol enhances packet delivery by 50% and extends network lifetime by effectively delaying node failures. DOA-ITLS is found to be a scalable, robust, and energy efficient solution for urban traffic and lighting control. By enhancing data delivery and system responsiveness, this framework makes urban mobility more sustainable and efficient
Research-based knowledge about how students and staff perceive teaching and learning in School-Age-Educare centres remains limited. This article addresses this gap by employing draw-and-tell conversations with 60 pupils and conducting focus group interviews with staff across five School-Age-Educare Centers (SAEC). The aim of this article is to contribute in-sights into students’ and staff’s perceptions of teaching and learning, with a particular focus on what emerges in the interplay, as well as similarities and differences in their views. The German didactic triangle is presented as a theoretical lens applying comparative thematic analysis as its methodological approach. The findings reveal that students emphasize activities and the social dimensions of learning, while staff highlight the importance of child-centered teaching and the balance between planned and situational content. This article offers valuable insights for practitioners and stakeholders within SAEC, contributing to the development of educational practice by incorporating both pupil and staff perspectives. To make the Invisible Visibl
Deepfake Detection: Human Performance Versus AI Tools : A Comparison of Accuracy and Effectiveness
Image manipulation is a phenomenon much older than digital image handling and generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). In the digital era, researchers have made a distinction between cheapfakes and deepfakes. The creation of cheapfakes requires a relatively low technical editing level and does not depend on any GenAI technology. This study had a focus on deepfakes only and explored the role of GenAI in the generation of deepfakes as well as the role of AI in tools for detecting deepfakes. The term deepfakes refers to high-quality and synthetic media content created with the use of deep learning and generative artificial intelligence. Recent advances in deepfake generation have made such content even more realistic, making it harder to identify. The rise of AI-convincing content is a growing social issue that poses serious challenges for its detection. Although the importance of deepfake detection is widely recognized, research comparing the performance of humans and AI on deepfakes analysis is still in its early stages. This study addresses this gap by conducting a comparison between human analysis and AI-based detection tools to evaluate their accuracy and effectiveness in identifying deepfakes. The testing was based on a set of AI-generated images related to the Israel–Hamas war, which were circulated on social media during 2023-2024. Future research should focus on testing a broader range of AI-based detectors to evaluate their effectiveness against different types of deepfakes, such as video, music, audio, text, including less sophisticated AI-generated manipulations as cheapfakesFAIT
Leverage points for climate change mitigation at tourism destinations : A holistic interdisciplinary approach
This study examines strategic leverage points for climate change mitigation in small-scale tourism destinations, using an interdisciplinary approach that combines life cycle assessment (LCA) and behavioural experimentation. The purpose was to identify operational and behavioural interventions that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining visitor satisfaction. The LCA, conducted at an animal park, revealed that heating systems in visitor facilities, particularly during off-peak seasons, represent critical infrequent decision points for emissions reduction. Although large-scale infrastructural changes, such as the adoption of renewable energy, may be beyond the reach of small businesses, targeted efficiency improvements and seasonally optimized operations can deliver meaningful climate benefits. On the demand side, a lab experiment tested a nudge + approach that combined subtle choice architecture with reflective, values-based communication. Results suggested that nudge + interventions increased the likelihood of visitors making more sustainable choices without diminishing the quality of the tourism experience. These findings suggest that combining shallow leverage points (e.g., operational efficiency, behavioural nudges) with deeper interventions (e.g., reframing goals, fostering sustainability-oriented mindsets) offers the greatest potential for contributing to a larger systemic change. For small-scale tourism destinations, integrating bottom-up innovation with supportive governance and strategic communication can provide scalable, context-sensitive pathways towards low-carbon futures
Resultat: Resultatet delades in i tre huvudkategorier och sexunderkategorier.

Negotiating Standardized Approaches to IPV Detection in Social Services? : Previous Experiences, Degendering, and Mandatory Reporting
Through interviews with 16 social workers, drawing on the concept of “willful subjects”, the aim of this paper is to analyze how social workers working in Swedish municipal social services make sense of, adapt, and/or challenge routine questions about intimate partner violence, and how such routines affect their professional role and agency. We found that participants renegotiated standardized ways of asking by stressing the need to use such questionnaires with care, and stating that the individual judgement and agency of the social worker is paramount. The participants also renegotiated the purpose of asking; while their routine questions about IPV seldom led to a disclosure of ongoing exposure to violence, social workers considered it important to ask because it “opens the door” and signals the possibility of receiving help in the future. We argue that social workers are not necessarily stripped of agency when following standardized protocols and routines, despite increasing efforts to include controlling mechanisms in their everyday practice. However, our results also show that social workers’ legal obligation to report to child protection services, if there are children in the household, limits their room for discretion and how the routine questions about violence are asked and perceived by clients.
