    Stommen i en byggnad har en bärande eller stabiliserande funktion. Lätta stommaterial som trä kan kombineras med tyngre material för ökad stabilitet. Bjälklag ingår i stommen. Utgångspunkten är ett bjälklag framtaget av Svenskt Trä, bestående av KL-trä, singel, stegljudsmatta, spånskiva, gipsskiva, underlagsfoam och parkett. Singel är ett naturgrus som enligt Sveriges miljömål ska prioriteras för grundvattenskydd. I denna rapport undersöks förutsättningar för att använda andra grusmaterial, s k ballastmaterial, med bibehållen funktion. Undersökningen har genomförts som en kombination av litteraturstudier, samtal med yrkesverksamma och ett scenario med en rivning och nybyggnation på samma plats. Skillnader och likheter mellan materialegenskaperna hos naturgrus och bergkross (jungfruliga material) och betongkross (återvinningsbart avfallsmaterial) belyses. Vid en substitution av singel med betongkross från rivningsbetong så behövs en kvalitetssäkring avseende storlekssortering och densitet för att säkerställa samma funktion. Standarder för användningsområdet saknas, laborationsundersökningar av den kemiska sammansättningen bör genomföras för att vara på den säkra sidan. Viktigast är strålning (grundläggande krav på radon och gammastrålning i inomhusluft) och sexvärt krom (arbetsmiljö vid hantering). Det finns miljömässiga vinster med för att använda betongkross i stället för singel. Bergkross är ett kostnadseffektivt alternativ. Betongkross kan vara kostnadseffektivt, om materialbearbetningen och mellanlagring av krosset kan ordnas i närheten.The frame of a building has a load-bearing and stabilising function. Lighter frame materials such as wood can be combined with heavier materials for increased stability. Floors are part of the frame. The starting point for this report is a between floor construction by Swedish Wood, consisting of CLT, shingles, acoustic floor matting, chipboard, plaster board, underlay and wood flooring. Shingle is a natural gravel that should be prioritised for ground water protection according to Sweden´s environmental objectives. This report investigates what the conditions are for substitution to other aggregates, so called ballast materials, without altering function. This study has been undertaken with a combination of literature studies, interviews with professionals and a scenario with a demolition and a new building at the same site. Differences and similarities between the materials shingles and crushed stone (virgin materials) and concrete aggregate (recyclable materials) are highlighted. When substituting shingles with concrete aggregate from demolition concrete, the quality needs to be assured regarding size sorting and density to ensure the same function. There is no standard for this use, laboratory tests of the chemical properties should be performed for safety’s sake. The most important considerations are radiation (basic requirements for radon and gamma radiation in indoor air) and sexvalent chromium (work environment while handling). There are environmental gains when using concrete aggregate instead of shingles. Crushed stone is a cost-effective alternative. Use of concrete aggregate may be cost-effective provided the material processing and storage of the aggregate can be arranged nearby

    This bachelor thesis investigates how racist portrayals in American films from the 20th century have reflected and reproduced power structures and societal norms concerning race and ethnicity. Using Stuart Hall’s theory of representation as the theoretical framework, the study applies a qualitative thematic analysis to three historically significant films Hallelujah (1929), Song of the South (1946), and Mandingo (1975). The aim is to explore how stereotypical depictions of Black characters are constructed through narrative, visual imagery, and dialogue. The analysis identifies recurring themes such as the “magical negro” trope, colonial stereotypes, sexualization, violence, and the ideology of colorblindness. These themes are contextualized within the socio-historical settings of the films and linked to broader cultural discourses. The study concludes that film has played a central role in legitimizing racial hierarchies and shaping collective understandings of Black identity, both overtly and through more subtle forms of visual and narrative representation. By critically examining these films, the thesis contributes to an increased understanding of how popular culture reinforces structural racism over time.2025-06-04</p

    Comparative analysis of emotional and behavioral problems among adolescent offspring of female sex workers and residents of urban slum, Bangladesh

    Introduction: The children of female sex workers are the victims of their circumstances from the beginning and are deprived of an environment that encourages optimal physical and psychological development. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of emotional and behavioral problems among adolescent offspring of female sex workers and compare that with adolescent offspring of slum-dwellers in Daulatdia and Dhaka city, Bangladesh. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 394 adolescent children (196 adolescent offspring of sex workers and 198 adolescent offspring of slum dwellers) from March 2024 to May 2024 using a structured questionnaire. The study was conducted through face-to-face interviews where sociodemographic details, along with information regarding emotional and behavioral health problems, were assessed through the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) scale, and health-related quality of life was assessed through the Kidscreen-10 scale. Descriptive analysis, bivariate analysis, and binary logistic regression analysis were performed. Results: The prevalence of emotional and behavioral problems was 13% for adolescent offspring of Daulatdia and 15% for Korail slum. Age and gender in brothel settings and HRQoL in both settings were found to be significantly associated with emotional and behavioral difficulties. Adolescent offspring of FSWs with low HRQoL (OR = 4.09, p-value &lt; 0.05, CI 1.579–10.595) were 4.09 times more likely to suffer from abnormal mental disorders than those with average or high HRQoL. While in a slum setting, it is 2.825 times higher (OR = 2.825, p-value &lt; 0.05, CI 1.142–6.987). Conclusion: The study concluded that the overall prevalence of emotional and behavioral problems for adolescent offspring of FSWs was significantly lower than for adolescent offspring of slum dwellers in the emotional problem subscale. Tailored interventions should be developed to address the specific needs of individuals with emotional and behavioral health problems while minimizing the detrimental impacts of their stigmatized identity.

    Rethinking Waste : Consumer decisions on reuse and recycling at a Swedish recycling center

    Despite growing awareness of the importance of waste prevention in circular economy transitions, substantial volumes of reusable items continue to be discarded. This exploratory case study investigates consumer behavior at a Swedish recycling center, focusing on decisions made at the point of disposal. Guided by Social Practice Theory (SPT), the study examines how routines, knowledge, infrastructure, and cultural meanings shape behavior when individuals choose whether to recycle or reuse functional or repairable products. A mixed-methods approach combined on-site vehicle scanning, semi-structured interviews, and contextual observations. Scanning results showed that up to 35 % of discarded items had reuse potential, highlighting a significant gap between waste system outcomes and consumer intent. Qualitative data revealed that even consumers with positive attitudes toward reuse often default to recycling due to convenience, time constraints, and low confidence in repair or reuse options. Donating to charity often alleviates guilt, but many of these items are later recycled by the organizations, exposing systemic inefficiencies and public misunderstandings. Findings are analyzed through the SPT lens, emphasizing the interplay of meanings (social norms, moral justifications), competences (repair skills, reuse knowledge), and materials (product quality, infrastructure). This framing shows how reuse practices are constrained by structural conditions and embedded habits. The study contributes to sustainable consumption literature by identifying behavioral barriers and mismatches between consumer expectations and system design. It proposes targeted interventions, including clearer reuse criteria, better guidance at disposal points, and system adjustments aligned with everyday practices—to enhance reuse behavior and reduce preventable waste

    Robotbaserad 3D-miljöskanning : Ett arbetsflöde för datainsamling, bearbetning och export med TurtleBot4 och OAK-D Pro

    Syftet med detta examensarbete har varit att utveckla och utvärdera ett arbetsflöde för 3D skanning av objekt och miljöer med hjälp av robotplattformen TurtleBot4 utrustad med en OAK-D Pro kamera. Projektet handlar om hela processen från datainsamling, punkmolnsbehandling, ytrekonstruktion och export av 3D modeller till Blender och Roblox Studio. Två metoder användes, objektskanning med egenutvecklade program för att fånga objekt ur flera vinklar, samt miljöskanning med hjälp av färdiga biblioteksbaserade lösningar. Resultatet visar att arbetsflödet för det två metoderna är genomförbart och att modeller med tillfredsställande noggrannhet kan skapas, särskilt för enklare objekt. Projektet uppfyller det fördefinierade målen om exportkompatibilitet och robotassisterad datainsamling. Målet om skanningsnoggrannhet har delvis uppnåtts, dock kvarstår utmaningar relaterade till kamerapositionen, vilket leder till mindre noggranna skanningar. Arbetet visar hur moderna tekniker för robotik och punktmolns bearbetning kan integreras till ett fungerande arbetsflöde, för robotbaserad datainsamling till skapande av 3D Modeller. Det vetenskapliga bidraget ligger i att demonstrera denna helhetslösning och identifiera tekniska förbättringsområden såsom rörlig kameramontering och automatiserad navigering.The purpose of this thesis has been to create and evaluate a workflow for 3D scanning of objects and environments with the help of the robot platform TurtleBot4 equipped with an OAK-D Pro camera. The project is about the whole process from data collection, point cloud processing, surface reconstruction and exporting of 3D models to Blender and Roblox studio. Two methods were used, object scanning with customized software to capture objects from multiple angles, and environmental scanning using complete library-based solutions. The results show that the workflow from the two methods is feasible and 3D models with acceptable accuracy, especially for simpler objects. The project satisfies the pre-determined goals regarding export compatibility and robot assisted data collection. The pre-determined goal regarding scanning accuracy is partially achieved, however challenges related to camera position remain, resulting in reduced scanning precision. The thesis shows how different technologies for robotics and point cloud processing can be integrated as a workflow form robot assisted data collection to create 3D models. The scientific contribution lies in the demonstration of this overall solution and identifying technical areas of improvement such as movable camera mounting and automated navigation

    Experimentell Studie av MMA-Svetsning med XRF

    Syftet med arbetet var att med XRF undersöka om ämnessammansättningen förändras i en metallbit efter MMA-svetsning. I arbetet undersöktes låglegerat kolstål och mätningar genomfördes på tre olika metallbitar. För att genomföra mätningar användes en Bruker TRACER 5i och mätningar genomfördes med både 3mm- och 8mm-kollimator.  Genom att analysera energispektrumen från mätningar före och efter svetsning med både 3 mm- och 8 mm-kollimator har skillnader i intensitet och halvvärdesbredd (FWHM) undersökts och jämförts. Jämförelsen mellan mätningarna med 3 mm- och 8 mm-kollimator visar att 3 mm-kollimatorn ger smalare energitoppar och att dessa har lägre intensitet. Valet av kollimator för mätningarna blir därför en kompromiss mellan upplösningen i energispektrumet och signalstyrka. Mätresultaten visar att den uppmätta ämnessammansättningen i och kring svetsfogen skiljer sig från grundmaterialets, samt att koncentrationen av legeringsämnen förändras i närheten av svetsfogen. För att uppskatta noggrannheten i mätningarna användes den uppmäta förändringen i koppar som referens. Koppar valdes som referens eftersom dess källa är mätutrustningen och är därmed konstant. Den största uppmätta förändringen av koppar för medelvärdet hos metallbitarna var +29,9%. Det medför att av de förändringar i ämneskoncentration måste vara större eller mindre än 29,9% för att det ska kunna tolkas som en faktisk förändring. För att förbättra studiens tillförlitlighet behöver fler metallbitar mätas och svetsas vilket kräver en mer tidseffektiv genomförandeprocess.  The purpose of the work was to use XRF to investigate if the elemental composition changes in a piece of metal after MMA-welding. In this work low-alloy carbon steel was examined and measurements were performed on three different pieces of metal. To carry out measurements a Bruker TRACER 5i was used and measurements were carried out with both 3mm and 8mm collimators.   By analyzing energy spectrums from measurements before and after welding with both 3mm and 8mm collimators, differences in intensity and full width at half maximum (FWHM) have been evaluated. The comparison between the measurements with 3mm and 8mm collimators shows that the 3mm collimator produces narrower energy peaks but with lower intensity. The choice of collimator for measurements therefore becomes a compromise between resolution in the energy spectrum and signal strength.  The measurement results show that the composition of elements in and around the weld joint differs from that of the base material, and that the concentration of alloying elements changes in and near the weld joint. To estimate the accuracy of the measurements, the measured change in copper was used as a reference. Copper was chosen as a reference since its source is the measuring equipment and thus constant. The largest measured change in copper for the mean value of change in the metal pieces was +29.9%. This means that a changes in element composition must be greater or lesser than 29.9% for it to be interpreted as an actual change. To improve the reliability of the study more pieces of metal need to be measured and welded, which requires a more time-efficient measuring process.
