    No full text
Introduction-Targets have been set at both global and national levels to fight the climate changes that are happening on our planet. Food and meals directly and indirectly affect several of these goals. For more than a decade the Meal service-department in Härryda kommun have been working on making their school meals more sustainable and now they want a follow-up on that.  Aims- To investigate if and in that case how the carbon footprint from the high school of Härryda kommun’s school meals has changed from 1993 to 2020. A second purpose is to investigate any changes in the content of the school lunches referred to foods. Materials and methods-In order to investigate possible changes in carbon footprints over time, samples of school lunches in the time period 1993-2020 have been calculated. In order to see any changes in the content of the school lunches, frequencies of five selected foods have been studied. Results-There is no significant difference in CO₂e between period 1 (1993 + 1998 + 2003) and period 2 (2013 + 2018 + 2020). There are small tendencies that indicate a decrease in carbon footprint from the school meals in the last decade. The presence of pure beef, products of pig and rice have decreased in the school meals, while plant-based protein and meat from birds have increased. Conclusion-No significant difference in climate imprint between 1993 and 2020 could be determined. There were obvious changes in the content of the school lunches with regard to food during the same time period

Prevent school absenteeism and promote school attendance : a study from the students' perspective

    No full text
The study examines the factors that cause school absenteeism and how the high school/upper secondary can work to prevent school absenteeism and promote school attendance. The overall purpose of the study was to investigate what the high school/upper secondary school students describe as absenteeism prevention and promote attendance. The theoretical framework for the study consists of a socio-cultural perspective, a relational perspective, and the theory of KASAM. The study approach is qualitative and the study data were collected through mixed methods where semi-structured interviews were supplemented with a survey of the high school/upper secondary school students in grades 2 and 3. Based on the students' descriptions, the school's work on preventing absence and promoting attendance can be seen as complex. The students show, as in previous research, that many different factors influence the students' attendance and absence and that the causal factors can vary from student to student. The result further shows that there are a variety of factors related to the school's learning environments that can prevent absenteeism and promote attendance. The conclusion of the study highlights the importance of high school/upper secondary school working to strengthen students' motivation, participation, security, health, wellness and well-being. Highschool/upper secondary school should also work actively to ensure that the learning environment in the school is varied and that the teaching is adapted to the diversity of pupils' needs and conditions. Based on the results, it is determined that a broad repertoire of strategies and methods is needed in the school's absence prevention and attendance promotion work. The special pedagogical relevance of the study is made visible by the study showing that the school's attendance promotion and absence prevention work is strengthened by the school working to identify and map obstacles and opportunities in the school's educational, social and physical learning environments and based on the development of the school's learning environments at both individual and organizational levels

People are increasingly using digital health platforms, which means that lots of health data is generated from users' digital activities. The purpose of this paper is to develop a design concept to manage this large amount of health data, with the help of concept-driven design research. The goal of the concept is to create an opportunity for individuals to manage and access their generated health data, in order to use it for something meaningful.  With the aid of a methodological guide, the concept has been developed, to create theoretically anchored qualities and to compile them into a concept in the form of a model. To get external criticism of the concept, ten users were involved, which in turn led to revision and contextualisation of HealthLab. In the result, a final concept model is presented of HealthLab. The concept will serve as a multiplatform whose purpose is to collect external health data so that users can get several aspects of their training, which in turn will contribute to a better training experience. The final result of HealthLab is intended to be a vision for the future to guide and awaken new ways of thinking among researchers and designers

Near Field Communication Security concerns & applicable security in Android

    No full text
Near Field Communication (NFC) is being used more frequent in smart devices, this raises security concerns whether the users information is secure from attackers. The thesis examines the threats that NFC on Android smartphones are exposed to, its countermeasures, as well as existing protocols that ensures the integrity and confidentiality of the users data. The results were achieved by a literature study, a questionnaire sent to companies that create products related to the subject as well as an experiment that was divided into two parts. The first part examined what information can be extracted from a debit card stored on an Android smartphone. The second part included a relay attack in which a purchase would be made with a victim’s debit card by using Android smartphones. The results shows that it is difficult to conduct any attack on the smart devices because of the limited range of NFC as well as the protocols available for making purchases with debit cards stored on smart devices disallows unauthorized applications and hardware to attack cards stored in smart devices

In Sweden, the mandatory audit for small companies was abolished on November 1, 2010. As a result of this decision, many of the small Swedish companies were not required to be audited. Despite the abolition of the audit obligation, many small companies have chosen to hire an auditor voluntarily. Therefore, it will be interesting to investigate the factors that affect the demand for voluntary auditing in small Swedish companies. The study aims to answer the following question: What factors influence the demand for voluntary auditing at small Swedish companies? The obtaining of empirical material has been done through a quantitative method in a form of a questionnaire sent to respondents. A total of 44 complete responses were obtained. Using the Independent Sample test, the study's four hypotheses were tested. The results indicate that business leaders' desire to improve the quality of financial reports and the desire to improve relations with creditors and the tax authority are the factors that affect the demand for voluntary audits at small Swedish companies. However, this study has not found a relationship between the voluntary auditing and company size measured in turnover, number of employees, and total assets. The result also indicates that there is no connection between shareholders without access to financial information and voluntary auditing. The study has contributed to investigate certain factors that may affect voluntary auditing in small companies in Sweden. Results from this study could be of benefit for audit firms to understand business leaders' attitudes toward auditing

Factors associated with good health among older persons who received a preventive home visit : a cross-sectional study

    No full text
BACKGROUND: The ageing population is increasing worldwide, and this trend is bringing challenges both for the older person and for society. In order to meet the challenges a comprehensive approach is needed involving both health promotion and risk prevention. The preventive home visit is a public health intervention used around the world with the purpose of promoting health and preventing risk among older persons. However, most preventive home visits are focused on questions asking about risks. In order to strengthen the health promotion perspective during the preventive home visits, factors associated with good health need to be identified. The aim of this study was therefore to determine which factors were associated with good self-rated health among older persons who received preventive home visit. METHODS: This was a register study with a cross-sectional design, including older persons (≥75 years old), living in their own homes, and that had received preventive home visit. Data were collected during a period of 9 months, in two municipalities in the south of Sweden. A questionnaire covered mental, physical and lifestyle factors were used at home visit. Binary logistic regression was used to analyse the data. RESULTS: In total, 619 older persons were included in the study; 55.4% were women, and the mean age was 80.6 years (standard deviation 2.2 years). The following items were significantly associated with good health (after adjustment for age and gender): being able to do things that make one feel valuable, having no physical problems affecting participation in social activities, not feeling sad, not having reduced energy, and not having impaired endurance. CONCLUSIONS: The main conclusion of this study is that questions focusing on risks could be seen from a health promotion perspective and could thus be turned into assets with a positive impact on older persons' health. Furthermore, the mental and physical factors identified in the results as associated with good health have implications for the person's ability to feel valuable and participate in social activities. The results suggest that issues regarding both health promotion as well as risk prevention must be brought up during the preventive home visit

“Would you like to eat an insect?” : children’s perceptions of and thoughts about eating insects

    No full text
Interest in eating insects has increased in Western countries; however, substantial challenges exist regarding acceptability and cultural ideas. Researchers have widely studied the acceptance of eating insects, but few studies have focused on children's thoughts. The aim of this study is to explore young children's perceptions about eating insects and how this insight might help understanding of ways to increase the willingness to eat insects. Three focus group interviews were conducted with children aged 4–5 years in a public preschool in Sweden. Each focus group consisted of four to five children; in total 13 (eight girls and five boys) participated. In exploring their perceptions of eating insects, the children were balancing between fantasy and reality, and between curiosity and fear, showing many, sometimes contradictory, emotions and relationships to insects as food. The children expressed a clear normative picture of what was considered food, illustrated by ideas about insects being something that are not allowed to eat. They were also concerned about whether the insect was dead before being eaten. Using children's fantasy and curiosity for new things, experimenting with insect-based products and ingredients in well-known dishes and contexts, and discussing different ways of eating them, acceptance of eating insects might increase

The Core of a Language Development Teaching : the ABC of SFI teaching

    No full text
The purpose of this survey has been to investigate and contribute knowledge about how a few teachers describe language development teaching for students in SFI teaching track 1 and how they believe that the special needs teacher with language, writing and reading development can function as support in that work. The survey was conducted on an SFI education on track 1, with four teachers and five teaching groups in courses A-D. The survey empirics are based on five observations, a Diamond ranking and a focus group interview. The survey has had a qualitative approach with a sociocultural theory and a teaching model of The ABC of SFI teaching as support and basis for the empirical analysis. The teachers describe that their language development teaching is based on the students' knowledge and that by practicing speaking, listening, writing, reading and understanding in a multimodal and translanguaging way, they work for a language development teaching. The results also show that there is a need to have access to a special needs teacher of language, writing and reading development at SFI, as this is a complex teaching situation for both teachers and students in the SFI education. It also shows that the students' heterogeneous language background calls for a high level of proficiency in teaching on the teacher, who must relate to many native languages and its impact on language acquisition in Swedish as a second language. The result also shows that the teaching model of The ABC of SFI teaching as support is used in the observed teaching to some extent, but there is a need to work to implement it further. The results of the survey show that both teachers, language supporters and special teachers together can contribute to increasing knowledge about and counteracting the risk that both students and teachers end up in linguistic and pedagogical vulnerability

”Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t” : a study on crime workers’ experience with multi-agency cooperation and information exchange in Sweden

    No full text
Multi-agency cooperation has been considered a very important aspect of crime investigation and crime prevention in modern time. The aim of this study was to explore the realities of multi-agency cooperation as experienced by Swedish crime workers from the police, the Prison and Probation Service and the Social Service. Previous research has shown that inter-agency cooperation’s success and/or failure is controlled by factors such as time, resources, amount of guidance and so on, however very little research has explored the modern Swedish crime workers’ perspective in the subject. Semi-structured interviews were conducted regarding the topics of cooperation between agencies, information exchange and secrecy. The results showed that while cooperation within the Swedish Judicial System was operating well, collaborative efforts with external agencies like the Social Service, was severely lacking. Collaborative efforts were experienced as less actual cooperation and more information exchange, which in turn was heavily controlled by secrecy laws and therefore often seen as one-way communication with external agencies. Additionally, when well-planned collaborative projects funded by the government are in place, the cooperation tends to work easier, however workers are less inclined to prioritize such efforts when the agencies’ own resources are being used
