Sustainability reporting with focus on the SDG-goals : comparative study between The Big 4 in Sweden and UK

    No full text
The purpose of the study was to analyze and compare the development and harmonization of the sustainability reporting of The Big 4 in Sweden and the UK over four consecutive years (2016–2019). This study was done because of sustainability reporting is becoming increasingly important and auditing companies have the knowledge required on the subject. Therefore, it becomes relevant to analyze The Big 4s sustainability reports. The EU has created a new EU-directive in 2014 to promote sustainability reporting and its harmonization at a regional level. The EU-directive has affected Sweden's and the UK's national accounting laws. Using content analysis of annual reports, separate sustainability reports and information published on The Big 4s websites, the empirical data for the study has been developed. To be able to interpret the empirical data collected, institutional theory, stakeholder theory, legitimacy theory and conceptualization of non-financial reporting harmonization have been used. With this we have come to three different results. The first result is that The Big 4 uses different presentation form in each country. The second result is that the contents of The Big 4:s sustainability reports differ between the two countries. The third and final result is that all companies belonging to The Big 4 in Sweden and the UK are part of the FNGC collaboration

    No full text

Deep Learning Approach for Extracting Heart Rate Variability from a Photoplethysmographic Signal

    No full text
Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a method to detect blood volume changes in every heartbeat. The peaks in the PPG signal corresponds to the electrical impulses sent by the heart. The duration between each heartbeat varies, and these variances are better known as heart rate variability (HRV). Thus, finding peaks correctly from PPG signals provides the opportunity to measure an accurate HRV. Additional research indicates that deep learning approaches can extract HRV from a PPG signal with significantly greater accuracy compared to other traditional methods. In this study, deep learning classifiers were built to detect peaks in a noise-contaminated PPG signal and to recognize the performed activity during the data recording. The dataset used in this study is provided by the PhysioBank database consisting of synchronized PPG-, acceleration- and gyro data. The models investigated in this study were limited toa one-layer LSTM network with six varying numbers of neurons and four different window sizes. The most accurate model for the peak classification was the model consisting of 256 neurons and a window size of 15 time steps, with a Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) of 0.74. The model consisted of64 neurons and a window duration of 1.25 seconds resulted in the most accurate activity classification, with an MCC score of 0.63. Concludingly, more optimization of a deep learning approach could lead to promising accuracy on peak detection and thus an accurate measurement of HRV. The probable cause for the low accuracy of the activity classification problem is the limited data used in this study

3D-printing of tailormade foods for elderly

    No full text
Introduction Approximately 50% of older persons are in the risk zone for malnutrition which may lead to weight loss, frailty, disabilities or even death. For those suffering from chewing and swallowing disorders (dysphagia) the risk is higher. 3D-printing of foods may be a solution and tailormade food may be produced, eg with individualised variations in texture, nutrients and sensory properties. For this purpose 3D-print batter has been developed. A further demand is that the batter should be storable at ambient temperature. The texture could be modified by the addition of thickeners. Aim The aim of this study was to compare addition of agar and xanthan in different amounts to print batter for chicken, broccoli and bread patés.  Methods Samples: Four chicken, three broccoli and two bread patés were produced with 0,5% xanthan and varied amount agar, 0.5-2.0%. In addition one chicken paté with 1,0% added gelatine and 0,6% cmc was produced. The batter underwent a retort process before sensory descriptive analysis. Results Results showed a large impact of the thickeners mainly on the broccoli paté, lesser impact on chicken and none on the bread. Significant differences were found mainly in the texture attributes, eg firmness, but also appearance differed due to the content of agar. The addition of gelatine and cmc resulted in more grainy but less sticky texture. The retort process had a significant impact on appearance and flavour attributes. Discussion Varied impact of thickeners due to the different products was expected in line with earlier studies. However, no impact on the bread paté was non-expected. The results may be explained by the use of milled breadcrumbs in the batter. It is clear that batter based on different ingredients will need different thickeners to optimise the texture

Professionals' perspective on needs of persons who frequently use psychiatric emergency services

    No full text
This study explores how professionals experience persons who frequently use psychiatric emergency services (PES) in terms of their needs in Sweden. The data comprise 19 semi-structured individual interviews and one focus group interview with healthcare professionals (i.e., assistant nurses, psychiatric nurses, intern physicians, and resident physicians), which are analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The overall findings suggest that persons who frequently use PES suffer from illness, unfavorable life circumstances, and inadequate care, which together emphasize the need for more sustainable support. The findings indicate that the professionals saw beyond illness-related needs and could also acknowledge patients' needs originating from social, existential, and care- and support-related aspects of life

“And the walls became the world all around” : teachers voices and applied practices concerning the encouraging of child fantasy and creativity in and through the physical indoor environment of Swedish leisure time centres.

The emphasis of Swedish leisure-time teachers assignment lies in the unpredictable characteristics of play, explorative and creative ways of working and encouraging child fantasy and creativity. The leisure time centre is also a physical space where a complex mix of expectations of informal learning and care takes place.   The physical learning environment of Swedish leisure-time centres, and the teacher’s assignment concerning it, is neither in detail regulated in steering documents nor well documented in academic research but seems to be an upcoming subject of attention.   This study, which has been executed as walking interviews with teachers in four Swedish leisure-time centres, aims to – through a sociocultural and multimodal theoretical perspective – illustrate the intention and applied practices concerning the encouraging of child fantasy and creativity in and through physical learning environment. It also aims to explore the use and range of artifacts and how they are presented to children.   The results of this study present a unanimous picture of the range of artifacts used and an assignment highly vivid to the teachers but still unspecified as well as marginalized.

    No full text
As one of three core subjects in Swedish compulsory school, English is a major part of teaching. However, all too often, English teaching is formalized and taken out of context. This leads to a gap of knowledge between extramural English and school English. Many studies have shown that students with a computer gaming background show higher knowledge in English than students without a computer game background and when asked, students in grades 4-6 often respond that they learn English best in their spare time. In this study, I have analysed gaming students’ own reasoning about English learning and tried to find factors that make learning meaningful to them. In the form of a focus group interview with six students from grade 5, the result was expected. Most students, according to themselves, seemed to learn English best through computer games, which leads to the question of why this is so. The result gives us an insight into how students can reason about their learning of a second language and thus contributes with a student perspective to the existing research. Inspired by grounded theory, I have analysed students’ reasoning linked to concepts such as motivation, interaction, scaffolding and authenticity, which in turn derive from a sociocultural approach to learning
