Socijalna konstrukcija (post)postsocijalističke realnosti - etnografsko istraživanje svakodnevnog

In this paper, I want to discuss the main proposition from Berger and Luckmann's seminal book, the social construction of reality (or. 1966) - the idea that the everyday is the arena through which the social world comes into being--and to pair it with the understanding of memories and everyday life in postsocialist studies. It seems that various disciplines dealing with postsocialism sometimes treat the memories of socialism as an untheorized background of the analysis. I propose that postsocialist studies should do better by actively engaging in understanding the memories of socialism (and its aftermath) as an active force in shaping the present that should be addressed not only through the narratives of the past, but through the concept of the "everyday." for that purpose, I deploy the contemporary Western idea of ethnography as a specific qualitative study of the present that can be a useful tool for the understanding of society and social reality in the way they are described by Berger and Luckmann. I believe that Berger and Luckmann's account may shed new light on some of the central topics of related to the post-Yugoslav predicament (like the state, society, morality, and "normality") and I offer new readings of some scholarly works that deal with these concepts (including my own).U ovom radu analizira se jedna od osnovnih teza Bergera i Lukmana izneta u poznatoj knjizi Socijalna konstrukcija stvarnosti (or. 1966) po kojoj su prostor i vreme svakodnevice ključni za rauzmevanje načina na koji nastaje naša socijalna stvarnost.

Analiza Berger-Lukmanove filosofije bez filosofije

This paper examines the theoretical decision of Berger and Luckmann to place and develope the question of social constructionism on the other side of philosophy. By the immanent textual analysis, within the relevant epistemological environment, it is shown that their position is rich in philosophical assumptions and consequences, and the most problematic is the abolition of the autonomy of the intentional objectivity. Both the exclusion of philosophy and the unreflective "dealing" with her exposed Berger-Luckman's social constructionism to serious, in this paper raised objections.U ovom članku preispituje se temeljna teorijska odluka Bergera i Lukmana da pitanje socijalnog konstrukcionizma drže i razvijaju s one strane filosofije. Imanentnom tekstualnom analizom, unutar relevantnog epistemološkog okruženja, pokazuje se da je njihova postavka bogata i filosofskim pretpostavkama i konsekvencijama, a najproblematičnije je ukidanje smisaone samostalnosti intencionalne predmetnosti. I isključenje filosofije i nereflektovano "bavljenje" njome Berger-Lukmanov socijalni konstrukcionizam izlažu ozbiljnim, u ovom radu iznesenim prigovorima

Rođenje sporta iz duha agonalne ekscentričnosti

In this paper, we reconstruct the anthropological genesis of the historical assumptions of sport. As a "flawed creature", or as one whose being is determined by the structure of "eccentricity", one has a need for self-overcoming, which manifests itself also as a competition with others, among other things, in physical and playing abilities. Thus another man, in sports as an opponent, represents an "agent" who mediates the processes of self-cognizing and self-fulfillment. For this to be possible, there must be an a priori precondition for competition in humans, which we have named as the conceptual construct of proto-sport.

Promotion of public officials during election campaigns in Serbia: How to regulate media coverage of the abuse of public resources?

The author deals with the media presentation of election campaigns in Serbia. Findings of international organizations specializing in monitoring the election process and domestic researchers say that media coverage of state officials' activities during the election campaign in Serbia is the weakest aspect of their role in election campaigns. Therefore, the author suggests and explains possible legal solutions in order to limit it. The first part of the article is dedicated to the importance of regulating electoral and political communication. The author exposes the theoretical framework and points to the role of the media, especially television, in the formation of the image of electoral subjects as an important factor of voting motivation. In the second part of the paper, the author makes the connection between election promotion of public officials and media publicity and public relations as forms of promotion in election campaigns. In the third part of the paper, the frequency of media promotion of public officials taking part in election campaigns in Serbia is indicated. The author concludes that this type of abuse of public resources in the campaign is present in Serbia all the time since the first multiparty elections to date and that it is a television promotion of the most influential politicians in the country, most often the president of the state. In the final part, the author proposes and explains possible legal solutions in order to limit this type of abuse of public resources in election campaigns. He also points to the role of journalistic practice in limiting this phenomenon and highlights the concern that the proposal to regulate the way journalists report the campaign would encounter their resistance

From Being Invisible to Becoming Empowered

The theme for the 2019 International Women's Day, #BalanceforBetter, adequately reflects the need for a world in which the balance between genders will be more equalized. Coincidentally or not, 8 March 2019 has been set for the release of Captain Marvel, the 21st movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and the first movie within it to have a female main character. Thus, the 2019 International Women's Day will be celebrated with a completely new facet, because on that day the first woman in the role of Marvel's lead superhero, Carol Danvers, is set to hit the screen. Namely, in the original 1961 Marvel's Fantastic Four team of superheroes, Susan Storm was the only female, and while the three men gained typically masculine superpowers (rubber body; fire manipulation; superhuman strength), Susan obtained the ability to turn … invisible - unseen and unheard. This was fully in compliance with the pervasive sexist tropes and recurrent stereotypes about gender roles of that time (cf. de Beauvoir, Second Sex), but that was not all. In line with gender categorization, according to which men are supposed to be active, whereas women are passive and submissive (cf. Bordo, Unbearable Weight), the three male protagonists also possessed brains and wisdom, whilst Susan was relegated to the typical societal concept of the woman: the role of wife and mother, and has thus remained known as the Invisible Girl/Woman. On the other hand, Marvel's first female lead superhero on screen, Carol Danvers, was an American air force pilot whose genetic structure got mixed with that of Captain Marvel on the occasion of a nearby explosion, which gave her powers similar to his - enhanced strength and durability, flight, and energy projection. Although Captain Marvel died of cancer in a 1982 comic, Carol donned his mantle as late as in 2012. The uniform is different from his, and when wearing her helmet, she sports a mohawk, however, her taking on Captain Marvel's codename establishes her as the follow-up to the legacy of a great hero. It is the purpose of this paper to explore, within the theoretical framework of feminist discourses disseminated by Simone de Beauvoir, Betty Friedan, Luce Irigaray, Judith Butler, Donna Haraway, Susan Bordo, Rosi Braidotti, Karen Boyle, and others, the steps that have steered Marvel's female protagonists from being invisible in mid-20th century to becoming empowered in the post-feminist age

The Impact of German Elections on Transatlantic Relations: A New ’Wind of Change’?

Research question of this article is what are possible effects of the German Elections results (September 2017) on the dynamics of transatlantic relations, with the special emphasis on the bilateral relations between Germany and USA. The main thesis of the article is that election results are relatively more pessimistic for transatlantic cooperation in comparison to the results from 2013. This article analyzes electoral platforms and campaign speeches of parliamentary parties in the most relevant topics for the perspectives of transatlantic relations

Urban Regeneration Policy in Serbia- three case studies from Belgrade

    Get PDF
This article presents the way of creation of urban and spatial policy in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, as transitional society. This ambience characterizes insufficient normative regulation, weak institutions, small transparency in decision making process, insufficient participation of important professional subjects in big projects, corruption and ad hoc arrangements which seriously favor private and group interests (income, profit) over public interests etc. Text has three case studies: Belgrade Port is an example for misuse of privatization procedure for getting valuable cities` lots and building land cheaply; Resettlement of wild Roma settlements represents ad hoc project which "cleaned" vital city locations without plan, and with jeopardizing elementary human rights of this ethnic group; and ambitions project Belgrade Waterfront (redevelopment of Sava amphitheater) has been created as arrangement between top Serbian leadership and foreign company, without including public and domestic experts and their associations in this project. The most important missing factors are: project justification study, "value for money" analysis, risk matrix, clear share of responsibilities for the risks between partners, and guarantees given by private partner for protection of Belgrade concerning various risks, absence of public competition, as well as absence of monitoring mechanisms for contract implementation

Theories of Nations and Nationalism: Old Approaches for the 21st Century

    Get PDF
Relying on Rogers Brubaker’s belief that the study of nationalism has sur- vived the erosion of nuanced and sophisticated works offered by the greatest minds in the field, this paper summarizes and reinterprets main Western theo- ries of nations and nationalism. During the last five decades, several main the- oretical approaches have emerged. The author argues the animosity between these approaches is only ostensible. Hence, a compatible perspective could emerge as a general framework for thinking about nations and nationalism in the 21st century. Such a framework would consist of modernism, interaction- ism and ethno-symbolism, all recognized in the literature as distinct views on the topic in question. Still applicable and compatible parts of the mentioned theories are extracted by thorough examination of their author’s most potent claims in order to offer means for comprehending the complex phenomena in a fast and ever changing social environment of the 21stcentury

Antropologija i folkloristika - problem tumačenja foklornog dela i teorija Alfreda Gela

This paper investigates the relationship between anthropology and folkloristics. We are interested in theoretical and methodological similarities and differences between these disciplines, rather than in institutional (political) solutions that differenced the two and produced certain forms of knowledge. It seems that the main difference between folkloristics and anthropology lays in anthropological focus on social and cultural context and processes, while traditional folkloristics focus on folklore forms as such. Contemporary folklore studies remake anthropological idea that "folklore" is a form of communication that has to be understood in its social and cultural context. However, we believe that anthropology has still to expand its view of folklore in order to go beyond its traditional paradigms of social contextualisation that basically interpret all social phenomena in structural functionalist paradigm. In that sense, we suggest Alfred Gell's theory of art as an experimental attempt for building of a new theoretical foundation for both disciplines.U ovom radu bavimo se odnosom antropologije i folkloristike.
