Cookies, privacy & user motivation
"With the advent of information technology, complex discussions of privacy and autonomy gain a new character in the digital space. One result is the so-called privacy paradox, which states that people generally care more about privacy than their actions show. The project seeks to explore the factors contributing to motivation in young students towards actively taking a stance regarding optional cookies. The goal of the project is to propose a solution to the privacy paradox. The analysis is based on the theory of communicative action in that we understand cookies as a steering medium, and the systematic defining of privacy in cookiebanners as a product of the rationalization of society. We conduct 10 semi-structured interviews exploring the attitudes, values and habits of the students as they relate to self determination theory and the internalisation of motivation. We perform coding and meaning analysis of the resulting data to specify central relations affecting the degree of internalisation of motivation among the student. We conclude that competence is a major limiting factor preventing the students from taking action aligning with their core values. Furthermore, the nature of cookies as a technology naturally limits the possibility for discourse on online privacy to take place in informal settings, as cookies function in the background and cookiebanners are often seen as a barrier to the purpose of going to the website. Finally, we suggest the implementation of mandatory education in public schools with a distinct focus on promoting dialogue between students to strengthen relatedness and competence as psychological needs for motivation.
Urban Green Spaces and Community - A Qualitative Study of the Physical and Social Environment in Pileparken 6
This research paper explores the relationship between the physical and social environment in a socialhousing in Gladsaxe Municipality. Furthermore, it examines how a new recreational area will enhancethe sense of community. The study was conducted in collaboration with Social Balance in GladsaxeMunicipality. The research question is explored through qualitative methods, including semi-structuredinterview, observations and document analysis. The empirical findings are explored through ananalytical framework based on theories of place and community, combined with relevant researchpublications. Furthermore, with the study being open to both empirical findings and theoretical perspectives,it leans towards an abductive approach by including both inductive and deductive approaches. The project contributes to the academic field by examining how physical planning combinedwith social initiatives can create viable solutions for neighborhood community. This study concludesthat the physical dimensions of the area influence the social environment, and that the newrecreational area can support social interactions by providing multiple places for encounters. However, the physical environment alone cannot foster social interaction—additional efforts are needed.Furthermore, it is recommended that the municipality emphasize the concept of neighborliness ratherthan community. Based on the results, a set of recommendations has been developed to guide themunicipality's further efforts in enhancing the sense of community within the area
Resilient Cities: Urban Planning Against Earthquakes: Resilient Cities: Urban Planning Against Earthquakes
This project focused on how urban planning can minimize earthquake damage and loss of life in earthquake-prone areas, as well as the measures that can be implemented to make both new and existing urban areas more resilient to earthquakes. Focusing on the critical intersection of technical, social, and environmental considerations, the research advocates for a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to urban planning that integrates risk mitigation strategies and community engagement. The project emphasizes the importance of understanding the unique needs of vulnerable regions and incorporating local knowledge into the planning process. Key measures discussed include the implementation of stricter building codes, the creation of safe zones, and the integration of green infrastructure to reduce risks. Additionally, the project stresses the need for active involvement of local communities in decision-making and recovery efforts, as community resilience plays a vital role in long-term recovery and sustainability. Through case studies from various earthquake-prone regions, including Hatay, Turkey, the project investigates the effectiveness of these strategies in practice. The research also highlights the role of technology, such as early warning systems, in mitigating disaster impacts and ensuring timely responses. Finally, the study proposes that urban resilience is not only about constructing physically resilient buildings, but also about creating flexible and adaptive urban spaces that support both physical protection and the social and mental recovery of communities. The findings of this project offer valuable insights for improving earthquake preparedness and post-disaster reconstruction in the context of urban planning

Practices of urban walking:ethnographies of walking ‘in action’
Drawing on practice theory and non-representational geography, this article advances the literature on embodied walking by analysing the often-overlooked mundane micro-actions, activities, and things that enable and make up practices and spaces of walking. This article gives a lively non-representational empirical account of how walking activities take place in specific locations, thus trying to unpack how this ‘almost instinctively performed’ practice is accomplished. The first part establishes a theoretical account of what a sensory account of walking practices and spaces must entail. The second part crafts ethnographies of place-specific walking activities. Third, I discuss some common themes regarding walking environments and walking as a sensory practice across three cases, in contrast to running and cycling
D3.8 Living labs for co-creation and co-innovation v2.0:Horizon Europe Project LibrarIN. HORIZON-CL2-2021-HERITAGE-01-02
This report is “Deliverable 3.8: Living labs for co-creation and co-innovation v2.0” of the Horizon Europe LibrarIN project. It reports “Task 3.3, Living labs for co-creation and co-innovation of WP3, Thematic and empirical work in selected co-creation areas”. Its aim is to explore how libraries develop experimental settings for co-creation and co-innovation. This second realise of the deliverable provides: 1) a review of the literature about libraries as living labs (Part 1), which is adopted from D3.7; and 2) illustration of the cases selected for analysis (Part 2). We use the construct of living labs as an analytical lens to characterize libraries as experimental settings. Specifically, we explore, based on the literature reviewed and case illustrations, how some libraries are transforming the library space into experimental settings that share many characteristics of living labs.<br/
