Lesya Ukrainka and Adam Mickiewicz: in the sphere of the Crimean Sonnets
No full textThe paper compares literary imagery and Crimean themes in the writings of Adam Mickiewicz (1798–1855), the most eminent poet of Polish Romanticism, and Lesya Ukrainka (born Larysa Kosacz, 1871–1913), the most prominent representative of Ukrainian modernism. In particular, it focuses on Mickiewicz’s “Crimean Sonnets” and Lesya Ukrainka’s “Crimean Memories”, which describe her impressions of a journey made
in 1890 and 1891. The analysis uses the category of ‘displacement’, or change of place, proposed by the American researcher Stuart Curren in his article “Romanticism displaced and placeless”. For Polish and Ukrainian writers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, such displacement was a fairly typical practice, and the phenomenon had a significant impact on the character of their works. The article emphasises that the Ukrainian writer’s work is more or less reminiscent of Mickiewicz’s “Crimean Sonnets”. Many scholars – both Polish and Ukrainian – note that despite the thematic similarities to the poetry of Mickiewicz and Pushkin, who both visited Crimea, Lesya Ukrainka’s “Crimean Memories” stand out for their originality. The work testifies to the qualitative development of Ukrainka’s poetry both at the level of genre and stylistic features, as well as at the level of content and means of artistic expression. In Lesya’s work, the landscape is used to express precisely the thoughts and mental states of the lyrical subject (as is the case in Mickiewicz’s work). Providing Health Services without Entitlement – Who Can(Not) Diagnose and Treat Patients in Poland
No full textThis article discusses the issue of providing health services without entitlement. Prohibited acts related to this are typified in the Law on the Profession of a Medical Doctor and Dentist. The seemingly clear typification of a misdemeanour and an offence, contained respectively in Article 58(1) and (2) of this law, proves in judicial practice to be quite problematic. Accordingly, the article attempts to examine the acts in question in terms of their sufficient clarity and the possibility of correctly interpreting the elements that constitute them. The results of this attempt indicate that in the Polish legal system, the possibility of determining precisely which health services are reserved exclusively for performance by doctors is particularly complicated. In addition, most allied health professions and related activities are not legally regulated. Legal and Ethical Issues Related to the Use of Artificial Intelligence in the Field of Justice
No full textThe rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has created many opportunities in various areas of human life, such as facilitating healthcare and education, improving production processes and creating labour efficiencies, or enabling human connections through social media, to name a few. Even though AI technology can be of excellent service to humanity, it also risks embedding biases which result in discrimination and inequality, as well as violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms, which, not surprisingly, raise numerous legal and ethical concerns. Given these issues, this paper endeavours to provide some insights into the application of artificial intelligence in the judiciary and to answer some questions which might be posed in this context: Are AI algorithms capable of simulating judicial decision-making? Can legal and ethical standards characteristic of the judicial function be maintained when AI tools are employed in the field of justice? The main highlights of the paper refer to the shaping of the legal framework in the AI area, compliance with ethical guidelines and recommendations, and risks and biases created and embedded by AI algorithms, as well as the issue of transparency towards both parties and the public, and in the area of AI algorithmic reasoning and methods. No full textPraca jest poświęcona analizie wpisów internautów z komponentem suka oraz jego rosyjskiego odpowiednika сука. Celem badania było ukazanie podobieństw oraz różnic pomiędzy analizowanymi językami, a także ich cech szczególnych w każdym języku z osobna. Materiał badawczy został zebrany metodą przeszukiwania wpisów internetowych zamieszczonych w latach 2020–2025. Analiza zebranych danych wykazała podobieństwo
pomiędzy użyciem leksemów suka oraz сука. Na jej podstawie można stwierdzić, że ich najwyższa częstotliwość użycia metaforycznego występuje względem nominacji kobiet. W pracy zostały uwzględnione utarte związki wyrazowe oraz potencjalne łączliwości analizowanych wyrazów w porównywanych językach.The work is devoted to analysing Internet users’ entries with the Polish component suka and its Russian equivalent сука. The aim of the study was to show the similarities and differences between the analysed languages, as well as their specific features in each language separately. The research material was collected by searching Internet entries posted in the years 2020–2025. Analysis of the collected data showed a similarity between the use of the lexemes suka and сука, showing that their highest frequency of metaphorical use occurs in relation to the nomination of women. Sońka – the Mystical Body and the Narrated Body
No full textThe author of the article addresses the topic of bodily experience in Ignacy Karpowicz’s prose, interpreting in this context his most popular and best-received novel, Sońka. Based on an analysis of the bodily experiences of the characters and the body-subject relationship, the author discusses the influence of the body on identity processes, highlighting issues such as memory, sexuality and corporeal epiphanies. Importantly she also reflects on the aestheticisation of suffering in art. I4.0 and 4xe – Industry 4.0 and Cluster Policy: Exploitation, Effectiveness, Evaluation, and Expectations
No full textThis paper was enriched thanks to the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development – the owner of the database resulting from a survey with cluster members which was used for the analysis.Purpose | This article analyses the impact of cluster membership on businesses’ digital transformation and adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies, with a focus on benefits and varying member approaches. Research method | The study combines the literature review with the results of Bench marking and the application of R software to develop typologies of cluster members based on four dimensions [4xE]: Exploitation, Effectiveness, Evaluation, and Expecta tions concerning I4.0 adoption. Results | The results show that cluster initiatives positively influence the adoption and use of advanced technologies. The identified member typologies highlight varying engagement levels and benefits. Originality / value / implications / recommendations | This research contributes to the understanding of cluster dynamics in fostering technological advancements and offers evidence-based recommendations for enhancing digital transformation support within clusters. The novel explores the psychological impact of trauma and the complexities of memory as the protagonist, Skyler, grapples with the guilt of potentially being involved in his sister’s death. Through a Ricœurian lens, this paper examines how memory serves both as a tool for understanding and as a means of obscuring the past. The analysis highlights the limitations of memory, its susceptibility to manipulation, and its role in shaping individual narratives. Under the crest of cupid, amok, and amphora. The wild and dramatic return of Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński to his homeland
No full textThe study is an attempt at the interpretation of the least known period in the biography of K.I. Gałczyński, which still awaits detailed research, i.e. the period from the end of World War II to the 22nd of March 1946, when the poet disembarked from the ship “Ragne” and wrote in the memorial book of the Harbour in Gdynia: “Gałczyński is back and alive!”. The poet’s return to Poland took nearly eleven months of wandering along the roads and highways of Germany, Holland, Belgium, and southern France, from where he tried to get to Italy. He roamed in alcohol-induced trance, intoxicated by love, offering ill-considered marriage proposals. Yet trance and intoxication were not the only attributes
of this journey, as they were accompanied by an emotional craze and eclipse of the mind that resulted from this Saint Vitus’ dance, as well as the despair that resulted from the inability to solve the dilemma: whether to return to the country where the instruments of ideological slavery had begun to emerge, or not. Gałczyński arrived in Krakow, at the apartment occupied by his legally wed wife Natalia, whom he had married in the Orthodox church in Warsaw in 1931, and his daughter Kira. He left in Germany his second wife, whom he married fourteen years later in a catholic church in Blomberg, and his son Konstanty who was born on the 22nd of January 1946.WOJCIECH KASS (ur. 1964 w Gdyni) – poeta, eseista, diarysta. Od 2002 roku członek redakcji „Dwumiesięcznika Literackiego TOPOS”, a od 2022 członek rady programowej pisma. Należy do Stowarzyszenia Pisarzy Polskich, PEN Clubu Polska, ZAiKS-u. Prowadził zajęcia creative writing na Studiach Literacko-Artystycznych Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego oraz na Wydziale Filologicznym Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku. The Examination of Factors Affecting Financial Inclusion in Asian Countries
No full textPurpose | The aim of the paper is to examine the impact of economic and non-economic factors on financial inclusion in Asian countries. The factors were covered at macro level (GDP per capita, population density, and unemployment rate), at micro level (Domestic Credit provided by sector as a percent of GDP), and at meso level (the mobile phone penetration). Research method | The fixed effect model (FEM) and the random effects model (REM) were used to quantify the effect of independent variables on financial inclusion. FEM was chosen in this article based on the Hausman test results. Results | The article has given conclusions as follows: (i) GDP growth, domestic credit, and mobile phone penetration have a significant positive effect on financial inclusion; (ii) there is a negative effect of population density, contrary to most studies; (iii) as in other studies, the unemployment rate has the negative impact on financial inclusion. Originality / value / implications / recommendations | The study has included different types of independent variables. In addition to the unemployment rate, population density, domestic credit and GDP growth rate, the impact of mobile phone penetration on financial inclusion was examined. No full textThe author of the essay presents an essential outline of the history of the Forester’s House Pranie in Masuria, which became famous after the poet Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński had stayed there several times. This was where he wrote his most mature works (including Kronika olsztyńska [The Olsztyn Chronicles] and Pieśni [Songs]). However, the author goes back to the times when the Forester’s House belonged to the German state, where it played the role of a forestry post. Thanks to the post-war visits of Gałczyński and his family, the former German, and then after 1945, Polish forester’s house was transformed into the Museum of Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński.WOJCIECH KASS (ur. 1964 w Gdyni) – poeta, eseista, diarysta. W 1989 roku ukończył filologię polską na Uniwersytecie Gdańskim. W 1997 roku osiadł na Mazurach, gdzie wraz z żoną Jagienką opiekuje się Muzeum K.I. Gałczyńskiego w Praniu oraz od 2001 roku jego oddziałem – Muzeum Michała Kajki w Ogródku. Ogłosił blisko 20 książek, w tym tomów poetyckich, a wśród nich kilka wyróżnionych prestiżowymi nagrodami, m.in. Kazimiery Iłłakowiczówny i ks. Jana Twardowskiego. Uhonorowany przez ministra kultury i dziedzictwa narodowego srebrnym medalem „Gloria Artis”. Od 2002 roku członek redakcji „Dwumiesięcznika Literackiego TOPOS”, a od 2022 członek rady programowej pisma. Należy do Stowarzyszenia Pisarzy Polskich, PEN Clubu Polska, ZAiKS-u. Prowadził zajęcia creative writing na Studiach Literacko-Artystycznych Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego oraz na Wydziale Filologicznym Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku. Członek Rady Naukowej Serii Wydawniczej „Colloquia Orientalia Białostocensia”, rady Białostockiej Kolekcji Filologicznej/Literatura oraz rady redakcyjnej Naukowej Serii Wydawniczej „Pisarze Podlasia i Kresów”. Ponadto jest pomysłodawcą i wieloletnim sekretarzem przyznawanej od 2012 roku Nagrody Poetyckiej im. K.I. Gałczyńskiego „Orfeusz” za najlepszy tom poetycki ukazujący się w Polsce. Współautor słownika Mazury. Słownik stronniczy, ilustrowany (2008) oraz współredaktor (wraz z Jarosławem Ławskim) Z ducha Orfeusza. Studia o polskiej poezji 2010–2016 (2018) oraz (wraz z prof.
