Factors Determining Public Opinion in Poland on the Adoption of the Euro
The aim of the paper is to analyze the attitudes of Poles towards the euro’s adoption in Poland and to identify factors that determine their opinions on this issue. For the analysis, the logit models of a dichotomous variable were constructed separately for each year, based on data from the Flash Eurobarometer surveys. The study covers the period 2020–2022, which is marked by a significant instability due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the outbreak of the full-scale war in Ukraine. During the analyzed period, not only did support for the euro increase, but also knowledge about this currency improved as well as the benefits awareness of using the euro raised. The study demonstrates that two factors had the strongest impact on the Poles’ reluctance to the euro in this period: (1) respondents’ perception that the introduction of the common currency would lead mainly to negative consequences and (2) respondents’ various concerns, for example, about the possibility of price increase, a loss of Poland’s identity and control over economic policy, or difficulties in adapting to the use of the euro. Other factors determining Poles’ attitudes towards the euro include: age, gender, level of education, size of a residence place, and labor market position.
Praca i wulnerabilność w czasach polikryzysu
The article is an introduction to thematic issue and as such explores the intersections of work and vulnerability in times of polycrises. It examines how market transformations, migration, war, and the COVID-19 pandemic jointly reshape contemporary labor and workers’ lived experiences. Drawing on the framework of social vulnerability, the issue links individual precarity to structural inequalities and welfare retrenchment, emphasizing the state’s role in protection and inclusion through the European Pillar of Social Rights. The concept of a polycrisis highlights how multiple disruptions – pandemic, war, and economic instability – mutually reinforce each other, leading to a crisis of social reproduction. The collected articles analyse diverse cases: the professional redefinition and social boundaries of care-related occupations, marketization, precarious employment, and biographical experiences of inequality. Collectively, they show that crises have become enduring contexts structuring work, identity, and social belonging, offering a deeper sociological understanding of vulnerability in the contemporary world of labor. Opierając się na koncepcji społecznej wulnerabilności, numer łączy namysł nad mechanizmami prekaryzacji z kwestią nierówności i wątkiem świadczeń socjalnych, podkreślając rolę państwa w zakresie ochrony i integracji społecznej (m.in. poprzez wprowadzenie European Pillar of Social Rights – EPSR). Koncepcja polikryzysu wskazuje, w jaki sposób liczne społeczne załamania – pandemia, wojna i kłopoty gospodarcze (inflacja) – wzajemnie się wzmacniają, prowadząc do kluczowego kryzysu reprodukcji społecznej. Zebrane w numerze artykuły wskazują, że kondycja polikryzysowa stała się trwałym kontekstem kształtującym pracę, tożsamość i przynależność społeczną we współczesnym świecie

Juliusz Berger – actor of two stages
The article recalls the outstanding actor Juliusz Berger (1928-1999), who was oneof the few twentieth-century artists in Poland who played simultaneously in twodifferent languages – Polish and Yiddish. Raised in a completely assimilated intelligentsiahome in Łuck, deported deep into Soviet Union, he returned to the country, where he graduated from high school, law studies in Wrocław, and then joinedthe theater. He started his stage career at PTD in Wrocław under the supervision ofEdmund Wierciński and Wilam Horzyca. Here Ida Kamińska, who was alreadymanaging the Jewish Theater at that time, saw him and offered him the main rolein the play - her own adaptation of Eliza Orzeszkowa's novel Meir Ezofowicz, whichrequired him to master the Yiddish language, which he did not know.I present Berger's artistic profile on the example of his two most famousroles: Meir Ezofowicz from 1953 at the Jewish Theater and Tewi (Fiddler on theRoof, 1984) at the Musical Theater in Gdynia. The context for them is Brecht'sSchweizerkez [Schweizerkas] in Mutter Courage und ihre kinders (1957) and Cadykin An-ski's The Dybbuk (1991)

Differentiation of European Economic Integration in the Light of Comparative Capitalism
The dissertation analyses the relationship between the diversity of capitalism models in the European Union (EU) member states and the phenomenon of differentiated integration ( DI ). The author’s aim is to examine how differences in the institutional architectures of European economies affect their degree of involvement in key EU policies. To achieve this goal, the work uses the perspective of institutional political economy and comparative capitalism studies. The theoretical part of the dissertation includes a discussion of the main trends in comparative political economy and their current use in European studies. The author uses the achievements of the varieties of capitalism (VoC) school and its developments and indicates that countries with more coordinated economies may be more institutionally compatible with the model of capitalism promoted by the EU. The empirical part presents a statistical analysis and estimations of econometric models (GMM), which allowed for determining the relationship between the institutional features of national economies and the degree of legal integration, measured by the number of treaty exemptions of a given country. The study also includes content analysis of official documents and in-depth interviews with experts and political decision-makers. The results of the analyses indicate that the level of integration of individual EU countries is not only a function of their political preferences, but also largely results from the institutional conditions of capitalism models
Old Age and Aging in Sociological Discourse
Studies on old age and aging take place at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels, and their authors represent different theoretical orientations as well as use diverse research methods and techniques. World research on this topic has a rich tradition, while in Poland only the period of political transformation became a catalyst for multi-directional analyses, including those concerning the condition of Polish seniors. According to CBOS research, elderly people in Poland – despite many real problems – declare relative satisfaction with their existential situation. This is largely due to the intergenerational relations that satisfy many seniors. The authors of the texts collected in this volume have chosen the microsociological perspective,. i.e. they write, among others, about the experiences of retired university professors, about photographic representations of old age, or about films that undertake the topic of Alzheimer’s disease. They also look into the future to consider the society of tomorrow, in which there will be a significant increase in the number of seniors. Aging concerns not only people, as animals also get old – one of the articles animates the discussion on their condition in contemporary culture.
Disruptive Masculinities? Male Workers Challenging Gender(ed) Norms in Technology Startup Organizations
The tech industry is one of the most influential and profitable sectors of the new economy, with startup organizations playing a significant role within it. Existing research highlights that these emerging companies remain male-dominated—structurally, normatively, and symbolically. However, researchers rarely consider how norms and gender inequalities, which privilege men and masculinities, might be questioned and negotiated by male employees, especially those in positions of privilege. This article examines how men occupying different roles in tech startups contest, transgress, or redefine dominant gender(ed) norms in their workplaces. Drawing on semi-structured interviews conducted between 2021 and 2023 with 43 male and female startup employees—as part of a broader study funded by the Polish National Science Centre (grant no. 2020/37/N/HS6/03913)—this analysis demonstrates how men engaging in emotional labor (on individual and collective levels), actively reconfigure the gender regime and “disrupt” the reproduction of normative models of masculinity within their companies
Theatre and modernity: oasis of deceleration
The article analyzes the role of theater in relation to modernity defined as a culture of acceleration, as described by Hartmut Rosa. Referring to the notion of an “oasis of deceleration,” the author argues that theater is a unique space that counters the incessant rush of everyday life. Analyzing various aspects of the theatrical experi-ence, such as its anachronistic form, the live contact with actors and the focus on storytelling, the essay points out that theater offers audiences the opportunity for respite and reflection. However, the author also stresses that theater can serve as both a refuge from the rush and an affirmation of the dominant cult of accelera-tion. The article leads to the conclusion that theater, as a cultural phenomenon, has the potential to both subvert and perpetuate the existing social order
Joan Riviere: The Woman behind the Masquerade
Joan Riviere, a British psychoanalyst, is best known for her concept of femininity as masquerade, which gained recognition in feminist and philosophical circles through Judith Butler and her Gender Trouble. This paper analyzes Riviere’s life and work in the context of tensions between psychoanalysis, philosophy, and feminism. In part (I), I discuss why the relationship between these fields is not unproblematic. Part (II) focuses on Riviere’s biography, showing how various narratives – by Anna Verrall (Riviere’s mother), Ernest Jones, Sigmund Freud, and her collaborators – shape her image. The most interesting thread is Riviere's absence from discourse, the lack of reference to her, despite her significant contribution to psychoanalysis. While her concept appears in works at the intersection of philosophy, psychoanalysis, and feminism, her figure remains incomplete and elusive. More important than her image are the concrete actions she took, which had a real impact on the development of psychoanalysis. This paper, introducing Polish readers to Riviere’s figure, contributes to a deeper reflection on her contribution to the history of psychoanalysis and feminism. Choć jej koncepcja przywoływana jest w pracach z pogranicza filozofii, psychoanalizy i feminizmu, postać Riviere pozostaje niepełna i trudna do uchwycenia. Tekst ten, zapoznając polskiego czytelnika z tytułową bohaterką, stanowi przyczynek do głębszej refleksji nad jej wkładem w historię psychoanalizy i feminizmu
