Highlights from the Auger Engineering Radio Array

The Auger Engineering Radio Array (AERA) at the Pierre Auger Observatory is an array of 153 radio-antenna stations that measure the 30−80 MHz radio emission produced in extensive air showers in the energy range between 0.1 and 10 EeV. It has been taking data for over a decade. In this contribution, we present the recent results of AERA. We show the measurements of the depths of the shower maxima (Xmax) using the radio footprint and using interferometry, demonstrating compatibility and competitiveness with the established fluorescence detection method. We also show the measurement of the stability of the radio signal over close to a decade determined using the Galactic radio background as a calibration source, demonstrating that a radio detector can be used to lower systematic uncertainties on the energy scale of, for example, fluorescence and water-Cherenkov detectors

    The case of AT2022wtn

Abstract We present the results from our multi-wavelength monitoring campaign of the transient AT 2022wtn, discovered by the Zwicky Transient Facility in the nucleus of SDSS J232323.79+104107.7, the less massive galaxy in an active merging pair with a mass ratio of ∼10:1. AT 2022wtn shows spectroscopic and photometric properties consistent with a X-ray faint N-strong TDE-H+He with a number of peculiarities. Specifically, a 30-days long plateau at maximum luminosity, a corresponding dip in temperature and the development of a double-horned N iii+He ii line profile. Strong and time-evolving velocity offsets in the TDE broad emission lines and the detection of a transient radio emission, indicate the presence of outflows. Overall, the observed properties are consistent with the full disruption of a low-mass star by a ∼106M⊙ SMBH followed by an efficient disk formation and the launch of a quasi-spherical reprocessing envelope of fast expanding outflowing material. The observed differences between the He ii and the Hydrogen and N iii lines can be explained either with a spatial separation of the lines emitting region or with a late-time reveal of shocks from the returning debris streams, as the photosphere recedes. Finally, we present an extensive analysis of the hosting environment and discuss the implications for the discovery of two TDEs in interacting galaxy pairs, finding indication for an over-representation of TDEs in these systems. The AT 2022wtn host galaxy properties suggest that it is in the early stages of the merger, therefore we may be witnessing the initial enhanced rate of TDEs in interacting galaxies before the post-starburst phase

Electrochemical determination of ammonia at low concentrations

A Pt nanoparticle catalyst supported on partially-defective CeO₂ was developed for sensitive voltammetric detection of ammonia (NH₃) in alkaline media (0.5 mol dm⁻³ NaOH), achieving a detection limit of 2–3 μmol dm⁻³. This system enables in situ NH₃ monitoring during nitrogen electroreduction at an Fe₃P catalyst, without medium transfer, minimizing contamination. The Pt-based electrode also serves as a diagnostic tool to confirm electrolyte and gas purity. Selective NH₃ formation with negligible hydrazine or hydroxylamine by-products was confirmed via voltammetry and spectrophotometry.

How departicipial are "L-participle" nominalisations in Western South Slavic

    Get PDF
We focus on nominalisations seemingly derived from l-participles, illustrated by lec-nominalisations in Slovenian, in order to establish the nature and position of the l-morpheme as well as the structure of these nominalisations in general. Our research is situated in the current debates on whether the item l in l-participles and l-nominalisations is the same morpheme or two different morphemes, and if the former, whether l-nominalisations are derived from l-participles. We argue that the l-morpheme is a root in both, but also show that it is not the case that lec-nominalisations contain l-participles. The lec-nominalisations are argued to contain a smaller structure than the corresponding l-participle, which is also reflected in the set of theme vowels possible in these nominalisations

Dogodek so vsebinsko zasnovali in organizirali študenti 3. letnika programa Vinogradništvo in vinarstvo, pod mentorstvom doc. dr. Erike Jež. V sklopu dogodka je doc.dr. Mitja Martelanc predstavil tudi olfaktometer, raziskovalno opremo Centra za raziskave vina, pridobljeno v okviru projekta Eno(Satira). Naprava omogoča natančno spremljanje nosne zaznave arom v vinu in bo v prihodnje podprla raziskave senzoričnih lastnosti vin ter pripomogla k razumevanju tipičnosti vin v povezavi s terroir-jem. Dogodek je prispeval k vsebinam Evropske prestolnice kulture GO! 2025 in poudaril povezovanje znanosti, izobraževanja in kulture v čezmejnem prostoru
