Peaces – raziskovanje miru kot čezmejne množine
The exhibition reimagines peace as both a plural concept and multifaceted experience, exploring mainly its artistic, but also scientific, and societal dimensions. Opening on March 6, 2025 at Weltecho Chemnitz, this unique event hosted by the City of Chemnitz and supported by GO!2025 European Capital of Culture Nova Gorica - Gorizia as well as the ACROSS European university alliance, commemorates the Day of Peace and Remembrance through a collaborative, interdisciplinary showcase.
Featuring contributions from ACROSS university students and young artists from Nova Gorica, Udine, Banja Luka, Chemnitz and beyond, the exhibition includes contemporary art installations, videos, photographs, live performances and a cinema program of short films and animations, challenging perceptions of hospitality, migration, and resilience, while speculating on peace as both a trans-human and trans-border priority.
Besides a guided tour through the artworks, the opening event will feature two performances, a cinema screening and an international panel discussion, offering diverse perspectives on peacebuilding in a fragmented world. By colliding creative expression with cultural exchange, Peaces invites audiences to reflect on the complexity of peace as both a universal aspiration and a deeply personal imperative.

Krepitev zmogljivosti za sprejemanje odprtih izobraževalnih virov s strani podiplomskih študentov angleščine in uporabne lingvistike na namibijski univerzi
This study evaluated the integration of Open Educational Resources (OER) within the Master of English and Applied Linguistics (MEAL) programme at a Namibian university. It emphasized the necessary capacity development for students to effectively identify and utilize OER tailored to their learning and teaching needs in Namibian schools. By aligning with UNESCO\u27s goals of openness, collaboration, and accessibility to quality education, this research contributes to the broader Open Education (OE) movement, empowering students to embrace diverse learning opportunities. The intervention included knowledge-sharing sessions, workshops, and reflective practices on real-world applications of OER in the context of English and Applied Linguistics. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study engaged 22 postgraduate students, collecting data through observation, open and closed questionnaires and reflective engagement on the Rise Up Padlet platform. Thematic analysis revealed that OER fosters academic freedom and professional autonomy, allowing students the flexibility to explore topics at their own pace. Participants found that evaluating Repositories for Open Educational Resources (ROER) provides valuable transformative platforms for enriched learning. However, challenges such as content diversity and usability issues were highlighted. Addressing these challenges is crucial for the widespread adoption of OER in education. Ultimately, the study reinforces the value of OER in advancing learning and research in English and Applied Linguistics, enabling students to access high-quality materials and foster collaboration.Ta študija je ocenila, kako so odprti izobraževalni viri (OER) integrirani v magistrski program iz angleščine in uporabne jezikoslovje (MEAL) na univerzi v Namibiji. Poudarila je potrebo po razvoju sposobnosti študentov, da učinkovito prepoznajo in uporabljajo OER, prilagojene njihovim učnim in poučevalnim potrebam v namibijskih šolah. S tem, ko se usklajuje z cilji UNESCO o odprtosti, sodelovanju in dostopnosti kakovostnega izobraževanja, ta raziskava prispeva k širšemu gibanju odprtega izobraževanja (OE) in omogoča študentom, da izkoristijo raznolike učne priložnosti. Intervencija je vključevala srečanja za izmenjavo znanja, delavnice in refleksivne prakse o praktični uporabi OER v kontekstu angleščine in uporabne jezikoslovje. Z mešano metodologijo je študija vključila 22 podiplomskih študentov, ki so zbirali podatke preko opazovanja, odprtih in zaprtih vprašalnikov ter refleksivnega sodelovanja na platformi Rise Up Padlet. Tematska analiza je pokazala, da OER spodbuja akademsko svobodo in profesionalno avtonomijo, kar študentom omogoča, da raziskujejo teme v svojem tempu. Udeleženci so ugotovili, da ocenjevanje repozitorijev odprtih izobraževalnih virov (ROER) ponuja dragocene transformativne platforme za obogateno učenje. Kljub temu so se pojavili izzivi, kot so raznolikost vsebine in težave z uporabnostjo. Reševanje teh izzivov je ključno za široko sprejetje OER v izobraževanju. Na koncu študija krepi vrednost OER pri napredovanju učenja in raziskovanja v angleščini in uporabni jezikoslovji, kar študentom omogoča dostop do visokokakovostnih gradiv in spodbuja sodelovanje

False strange attractors as sources of pseudo-randomness
In a recent work by Rezende, Leys & Bouali (2022), the authors proposed the technique of rearranging the time series of chaotic trajectories, in order to generate visually stunning new attractors. These attractors were termed ‘false’, as they do not correspond to a solution of a chaotic system, but are the result of editing operations on a system’s real trajectory. The authors’ motivation was the intersection of Chaos and Art, and the construction of intriguing new attractor shapes. In this study, we build upon that work, by further exploring how such techniques can be used to design different random bit generators from the rearranged chaotic trajectories. This is performed by first applying a rearrangement on the time series of a chaotic trajectory, and then using the resulting time series to generate a random bit generator. Such techniques can increase both the randomness of a generator, and its key space, so they can be highly useful in chaos based security applications
Automata-derived chaotic image encryption scheme
This work introduces an encryption scheme for gray-scale plain-text images, which is based on a chaotic map. Initially, the proposed chaotic map, which is a modification of the Renyi map, is introduced and is utilized in defining a Pseudo-Random Bit Generator. Subsequently, a finite automaton is introduced. This, in combination with the aforementioned PRBG defines the encryption strategy, that is, the order in which the rows and columns are encrypted. The proposed method is subjected to a number of statistical tests, to prove its resistance against common attacks
Nonlinear phenomena and chaos in a tumor growth model
In this chapter, the dynamics of a system, which describes the effect of the population of the normal cells in the procedure of avascular, vascular, and metastatic tumor growth, is studied. For this reason, a recently new system, which is acquired from a chemical network model, is utilized. The system’s dynamical behavior is investigated by using key concepts of nonlinear dynamics, such as the phase portrait, the bifurcation diagram, and the diagrams of Lyapunov exponents. Various cases of the system are examined by changing the populations of the host cells of the model for a specific value of the population of the immune cells. As a result, many intriguing phenomena derived from chaos theory arise, including period-doubling route to chaos, crisis phenomena, antimonotonicity, and coexisting attractors. Such phenomena clearly highlight the complexity of tumor dynamics and the difficulty in applying control theoretic strategies to counter the disease. This constitutes a challenge for future works
Analysis, synchronization and microcontroller implementation of a generalized hyperjerk system, with application to secure communications using a descriptor observer
This work proposes a novel hyperjerk system, as a generalization of a hyperjerk system proposed by Dalkiran and Sprott. Initially an analysis of the dynamical behavior of the system is performed. Then, the system is applied to the problem of secure communications. This is done by considering the transmitting signal as an additional state, leading to a rectangular descriptor system, for which an observer is designed, thus achieving synchronization and safe input reconstruction. The design is illustrated through numerical simulations and a microcontroller implementation
Synchronization of a chaotic system with line equilibrium using a descriptor observer for secure communication
The problem of secure communication is considered for a chaotic system with hidden attractor, through the observer design approach for descriptor systems. By considering the transmitted signal as an additional state, the nonlinear system is rewritten as a semilinear rectangular descriptor system, for which an observer is constructed. The observer synchronization is feasible under some rank conditions on the system matrices, a common assumption on the nonlinearities and the feasibility of an LMI. The design scheme is showcased through numerical simulations
