On Andrey Muravyov’s ‘Reading’ of Venice

    Get PDF
The present study, using semiotic method, is an attempt to present the image of Venice in Pribavleniya k “Rimskim pis’mam” (1847) by Andrey Muravyov as a space experienced, felt, and also written down and thus preserved. The author seeks to demonstrate that, in his refl ections, the Russian writer adopted the Orthodox perspective, pointing to the presence of the Byzantine heritage in Venice and emphasizing that Venice in a way exploited Constantinople. Although Muravyov thoroughly described the most characteristic places of the “pearl of the Adriatic,” as Venice was then called, simultaneously studying its peculiarities, he looked at them with the eye of a pilgrim rather than that of a tourist. The presentation of Muravyov’s image of Venice incorporates a specifi c ‘dictionary’ which can be reconstructed based on his works. The analyses are based on the semiotic theory put forward by Vladimir Toporov and on the concept of the city’s signature symbols, as proposed by Tat’yana Tsiv’yan. Muravyov’s descriptions of the characteristics of Venice are considered in relation to, respectively, the city’s landscape, its culture and symbols, and the stylistic devices he used

Articles and longer works from the 38th international research conference of the Prague City Archives held in cooperation with the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University in Prague, the Faculty of Arts of Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem and the Institute of History and Archival Studies of the Pedagogical University in Kraków on 22 and 23 October 2019 at the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in PragueThe article addresses the everyday life of a student at the University of Jena based on how Johann Christian Müller (1720–1772), later hofmeister in Pomerania and a pastor in Stralsund, captured this stage of his life in his memoirs. This unique source on mundane life of the 18th century was created retrospectively after 1763 on the basis of Müller’s former regular records and correspondence with his father. At the same time, this more than forty-year time interval from the described events clearly influenced the final form of the memoir. The 1,554- page manuscript captures Müller’s studies in Jena, Leipzig and Greifswald, with particularly detailed records relating to his time at the University of Jena, but also to his later work as a pastor in Stralsun

Renewable energy (RE) plays an increasingly important role in the economy of almost every country in the world. In order to examine the state of renewable energy (RE) in Mazowieckie Voivodeship (Poland), a literature review was carried out, anonymous sur-veys were conducted, a SWOT (Strenghts, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) and TOWS analysis were carried out and the potential of RE in Mazowieckie voivodship was estimated. The total capacity of all installations is equal to 712 MW. In recent months, number of prosumers have increased to 11,742 in the Voivodeship, and the capacity of their installations is estimated at 66 MW. Simplification of legal regulations and educating society is strongly recommended. Respondents in the survey and SWOT analysis on the future of the energy sector in Mazowieckie Voivodeship show that solar energy (35.5% of respondents) and wind energy (24.5% of respondents) have the greatest chances for the development. Development of the RE sector in the Voivodeship means new jobs, both in this sector and around it. Significant RE potential together with large project financing pos-sibilities may cause Mazowieckie Voivodeship to be a leader in RE production in Poland. It is this Voivodeship (with its capital Warsaw) that can serve as an example of the energy transformation towards 100% RE.Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu

„Mantra” z 2005 r. . Teks do katalogu - dr. hab Lucyna Rotter, prof. UJPII w Krakowie, tłumaczenia - Joanna Przewięźlikowska, zdjęcia - Adam Fisz, projekt graficzny - Matylda Sutuła / Yoyo DesignA catalogue published on the occasion of a one-artist exhibition by Ala Majewska. It is the second time the Toruń-based sculptor has presented her works in the Water Tower Gallery in Konin. In its cosy exhibition room, this time she shows a set of objects in which she evokes stories from the past related to everyday matters, thus getting us to see "household chores" in a different context. Some of the works are premiered (the "Blue Helpline" series), while some, like the "Mantra" from 2005, are being shown a second time. Text:dr hab. Lucyna rotter, prof.
