Technogenic soils – soils of the year 2020 in Poland. Concept, properties and classification of technogenic soils in Poland

    Get PDF
The Soil Science Society of Poland has elected technogenic soils to be the Soils of the Year 2020 to highlight the growing understanding of the functions of human-created or signifi cantly human-transformed soils in urban and industrial agglomerations, inhabited by the majority of the human population. Technogenic soils differ greatly in their morphology and physicochemical properties, depending on the kind/way of human intervention and the anthropogenic parent material. Thus, technogenic soils may either form highly productive horticular or park habitats, or unproductive or even toxic sites, which urgently require remediation. This introductory paper presents (a) a history of defi ning and classifi cation of technogenic soils in Poland, (b) present concept of technogenic soils in the Polish Soil Classifi cation and crucial diagnostics, and (c) a brief review of the subtypes and varieties of technogenic soils, including their recognition in formerly published research reports and correlations with the FAO-WRB classifi cation. The Polish Soil Classifi cation has extended the soil defi nition to allow classifying soils on buildings and other constructions, and has defi ned artefacts, geomembrane, hard technogenic layer, thick dumped material and deep soil mixing - new diagnostic properties important for distinguishing and classifi cation of technogenic soils. The type of Technogenic soils includes seven principal subtypes, i.e., Ekranosols, Urbisols, Industriosols, Edifi sols, Constructosols, Aggerosols, and Turbisols, as well as three supplementary subtypes, i.e., humus, gleyed and stagno-gleyed

Nie wiedział jaki czeka go los, jaka będzie przyszłość Kościoła w Polsce. Były to dni niepewność, smutku, doświadczenia niesprawiedliwości, opuszczenia i odrzucenia.

Biomethane in Poland—Current Status, Potential, Perspective and Development

    Get PDF
Technologie biogazu i biometanu w Polsce. Potencjał biometanu w Polsce. Analiza SWOT. Analiza PEST.Every year the interest in biofuels, including biomethane, grows in Poland. Biomethane, obtained from biogas, is widely used in the Polish economy; the most important two applications are as gas injected into the gas grid and as automotive fuel. The aim of this work is to determine the potential for the development of the biomethane sector in Poland. The following article presents the technological stages of biomethane extraction and purification. The investment process for biogas/biomethane installation is presented in the form of a Gannt chart; this process is extremely long in Poland, with a duration of three years. In the coming months, the Polish Oil Mining and Gas Extraction will begin to invest in biomethane, which will be connected to the gas grid, while the Polish oil refiner and petrol retailer, Orlen, will invest in biomethane to be used as automotive fuel. This article includes a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) and PEST (Political, Economic, Social, Technological) analysis of the biogas/biomethane sector in Poland. The main barriers to the development of the biogas/biomethane sector in Poland are high investment costs, long lead times and a strong conventional energy lobby. The most important advantages of biogas/biomethane technology in Poland include environmental aspects, high biomethane potential and well-developed agriculture. The development of biogas/biomethane technology in Poland will slowly reduce environmental pollution, reduce carbon dioxide emissions and allow for partial independence from the importing of natural gas.Badania statutowe

Pobyty Prymasa Stefana Wyszyńskiego w granicach dzisiejszej gminy Lubraniec

Witold Kujawski, ks. Kazimierz Rulka, ks. Antoni Poniński, ks. Piotr Nitecki, Michał Białkowski oraz Witold Konopka i Waldemar Rozynkowski

Combining Conventional Statistics and Big Data to Map Global Tourism Destinations Before COVID-19

    Get PDF
World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the major source of internationally comparable data on tourism. However, UNWTO data has two drawbacks: it focuses on international trips and ignores differences between regions within individual countries. Alternative sources of big data are increasingly used to enhance tourism statistics. In this paper, we combine traditional information sources with gridded population dataset and Airbnb data to address the limitations of UNWTO statistics. We produce a map of world tourism destinations measured by the number of tourism visits and tourism expenditure in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. We then identify hot spots of tourism and compare the level of spatial concentration of tourism to that of global population and economy. The results illustrate how supply and demand shape the global distribution of tourism, highlight the dominance of domestic travels in global tourism mobility and may help planning tourism policy in the face of current global challenges

Artifacts of Cultural Inclusion of People with Physical Disabilities in the Study of the Availability of Historic Sanctuaries. Report on Object-based Photo-ethnography

    Get PDF
The presented report on cultural disability studies with the use of photo-ethnography concerns the research of cultural inclusion through the prism of material culture and access artifacts, constructed in 15 historic Marian Sanctuaries of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, parishioners, pilgrims or tourists with physical disabilities. The research question was: What concept of cultural inclusion of people with physical disabilities is encoded in the artifacts of access ‘to’ and ‘inside’ the sanctuaries? The collected photographic data (944 photographs), textual data, and data from occasional interviews and 2 in-depth interviews collected in 20 months (Jan 2019–Aug 2020) were analyzed using the structural analysis of photography, as well as coding and categorization. Essential element of the research was the theorizing of obtained results and studied categories in the context of theoretical constructs of disability and models. Research results indicated that in 15 historic sanctuaries there are 5 different concepts of cultural inclusion encoded in access artifacts. These are ‘complete’ cultural inclusion in (4) sanctuaries, ‘almost complete’ in (2), ‘peripheral’ in (4), ‘contradictory’ in (1), and ‘taboo’ in (4). The conclusions from the research indicate that in 11 out of 15 sanctuaries, people with physical disabilities, especially wheelchair users, will need the help of other people (family, friends) to fully benefit from religious or cultural practices in a given sanctuar
