    Przedmiotem opracowania jest określenie pozycji problematyki kwestii ukraińskiej w polityce Niemiec w szerokich ramach czasowych – 1871–1991. Zaproponowana cezura obejmuje lata, w których kształtowana była ukraińska świadomość narodowa stanowiąca punkt odniesienia dla niemieckiej polityki wschodniej. Początek wyznacza rok 1871, czyli moment zwieńczenia kilkuletniego procesu jednoczenia się państw niemieckich i powstania Cesarstwa Niemieckiego, prowadzącego spójną politykę w duchu Ostforschung (rozumianego nie tylko jako namysł badawczy nad Wschodem, ale i realizacja praktycznych celów ekspansyjnych Niemiec). Okres badawczy zamyka rok 1991, w którym kwestia ukraińska przestaje pełnić rolę przedmiotu w relacjach międzynarodowych, a staje się ich podmiotem, w związku z uzyskaniem przez Ukrainę niepodległości

    The Beetles (Coleoptera) of the Knyszyńska Forest

    The beetles of the Knyszyńska Forest (KF) (NE Poland) were studied between the years 1979-2023. The KF covers an area of 1767 km2. The following collecting methods were used: various models of self-trapping, entomological net, hydrobiological net, shaking beetles on an entomological umbrella, direct colecting by hands, searching potential feeding grounds of saproxylic beetles, rearing from collected inhabited host material (cambio- and xylophages), collecting to artificial light sources. Based on our own research and literature data, a total of 2075 species of beetles belonging to 90 families were found; of these, 863 species were recorded from the area for the first time. Atheta sodermani (Staphylinidae) and Podagrica menetriesi (Chrysomelidae) – are new to the fauna of Poland, and 157 species – to the entire region of Podlasie. The largest number of representatives of Staphylinidae were caught – 348 species, followed by Curculionidae – 292, Carabidae – 158, Chrysomelidae – 138 and Cerambycidae – 101. Among the listed taxa, 402 rare and protected species were detailed described and illustrated. These include Natura 2000 species: Rhysodes sulcatus, Boros schneideri, Cucujus cinnaberinus, Osmoderma barnabita and Oxyporus mannerheimii. The mentioned species, plus Cucujus haematodes, are also under strict protection in Poland. Partially protected are: Carabus convexus, C. coriaceus, C. glabratus, C. menetriesi, Calosoma inquisitor, Leptura thoracica, Stictoleptura variicornis and Ceruchus chrysomelinus. 80 species of beetles from various families are on the Red List of Endangered and Threatened Animals in Poland, 36 species on the list of Primeval forest relict beetles of Central Europe, and 166 on the European Red List of Saproxylic Beetles. Among the most valuable of the listed species are those, that have at most 1-2 current, known localities in the country: Agrilus pseudocyaneus, Aspidiphorus lareyniei, Astylogethes subrugosus, Aulonothroscus laticollis, Bibloplectus spinosus, Cryptophagus obsoletus, Episernus tatarinovae, Glischrochilus tremulae, Hydroporus brevis, Ilybius wasastjernae, Lopheros lineatus, Microrhagus emyi, Nacerdes carniolica, Orthoperus nikitskyi, Oxyporus mannerheimii, Pseudanostirus globicollis, Pteryx splendens, Stictoleptura variicornis. Beetles found in the Knyszynska Forest Landscape Park, which covers about 41.2% of the study area, were characterized. 1858 species of beetles were found in the Park, which is 89.4% of all those recorded in the KF. The diversity of beetles in twenty-five nature reserves located in KF was also analyzed. They cover a total area of 51.7 square kilometers, which is about 2.9% of the study area. The highest number of species was shown from the “Budzisk” reserve – 602, followed by “Góra Pieszczana” – 363, “Krzemianka” – 362, “Jesionowe Góry” – 336, “Las Cieliczański” – 300 and “Krzemienne Góry” – 271. A total of 1356 species were listed in the reserves, which is 65.3% of all those known in the KF. The most valuable beetle fauna has the oldest reserve in the KF – “Budzisk”. Found here include: Agrilus pseudocyaneus, Aulonothroscus laticollis, Microrhagus emyi, Lopheros lineatus, Episernus tatarinovae, Nacerdes carniolica and Stictoleptura variicornis. The listed beetles were characterized in terms of their preferred environments. Among forest species, saproxylic beetles dominate, with 841 species. Beetles inhabiting the soil environment during their individual development were recorded with 688 species. In addition, 394 species were found to be mycetophilic, 328 – hydrophilic, 174 – anthophilic, 127 – pyrophilic, 105 – coprophilic, 88 – necrophilic, 47 – nidicolous, 46 – synanthropic, 34 – myrmecophilic and 32 – xerothermophilic; 137 species of aquatic beetles were recorded (the above categories are not mutually exclusive). The fauna of KF Coleoptera was compared with other natural sites and protected areas in Poland. Compared general biodiversity and particular taxonomic and ecological groups. The species richness of beetles in the KF was assessed as high – more than 34% of all beetles recorded from Poland have been found in this area. The best known families are: Boridae, Byturidae, Dascillidae, Lymexylidae, Nosodendridae, Noteridae, Peltidae, Sphaeritidae, Sphindidae and Thymalidae (100% of the Polish fauna); Mycetophagidae – 92.9%, Cerylonidae – 83.3%, Lucanidae – 71.4%, Aderidae – 71.4%, Eucnemidae – 68.2%. Among the species-rich families, Nitidulidae – 53.1% and Cerambycidae – 51.3% also belong to the well-studied ones. The paper discusses the problems of protecting the species richness of KF beetles. It is postulated that: (1)enlarge existing nature reserves, or establish new ones, so that their total area reaches 5-10% of KF, (2) gradually increase the amount of dead wood in management forests, especially in older stands to at least 10 m3/ha,(3)improve the quality of dead wood, i.e. primarily to ensure that it contains the proportion of all speciespresent in the stand and the presence of standing dead trees and thick lying logs in all stages of decomposition, (4) to rebuild ecological corridors between actual and potential habitats of valuable saproxylicspecies within the KF, to achieve ecological connectivity with areas outside the KF, (5) to continue the studyof KF beetles, as good knowledge determines their effective protection

    Genesis and characteristic of springs in the royal springs complex in Żeromin

    Opracowanie stanowi charakterystykę warunków funkcjonowania zespołu wypływów wód podziemnych zasilanych naporowymi wodami czwartorzędowymi z piaszczystych utworów śródglinowych w okolicy miejscowości Żeromin, w pobliżu Tuszyna. Jego głównym celem poza identyfikacją zmienności wydajności wypływów oraz temperatury, konduktywności i odczynu ich wód było ustalenie genezy i stopnia przekształcenia badanych wypływów w kompleksie Źródeł Królewskich. Jeden z wypływów to de facto wylot z systemu odwodnienia okolicznych pól, na co wskazuje odmienność cech fizycznych i chemicznych wypływającej z niego wody w stosunku do pozostałych. Powstanie wypływów zostało najprawdopodobniej indukowane przypadkowo przez działalność ludzką podczas prac melioracyjnych i/lub w czasie budowy wodociągu Sulejów–Łódź. Antropogeniczna geneza źródeł skłania do refleksji nad możliwymi konsekwencjami spożywania wody z niektórych wypływów (w szczególności pochodzącej z systemów melioracyjnych), zawierającej okresowo resztki nawozów i środków ochrony roślin.The study is a short characteristic of a group of springs fed by Quaternary pressure water from sandy sub-clay formations in the area of Żeromin near Tuszyn. Its main goal, apart from determining the variability of the efficiency of outflows and the temperature, conductivity and reaction of their water, was to determine the origin and degree of transformation of the examined outflows and to try to identify social factors influencing the popularity of the Royal Springs complex. One of the outflows is in fact an outlet from the drainage system of the surrounding fields, because its physico-chemical properties of water differ significantly from the others. The formation of individual outflows most likely occurred accidentally, as a result of human activity during drainage works and/or during the construction of the Sulejów–Łódź water pipeline. This prompts reflection on the possible consequences of drinking water from certain drains (especially from drainage systems), which periodically contains residues of fertilisers and plant protection products

    Influence of the Nano-Iron Oxide Adsorption-Enhanced Microstructured Charcoal Additives on the ANFO’s Properties

    The article presents the results of the third research stage on the potential microstructured charcoal additives in ANFO. The charcoal powder was liquid adsorption-treated with Fe in various ratios. Adding MC-Fe to ANFO changed the exothermic peak’s position from ca. 280 °C to 250 °C due to lower activation energy, which influenced the kinetics of the reaction. Bruceton’s test indicated that the MC-Fe addition to ANFO resulted in ca. 10% lower initiation energy in comparison with pure ANFO. However, the energy level did not influence the potential applicability of the additives. The fumes analysis indicated a lower concentration of CO for all tested samples; however, the concentration of NOx rose. The thermodynamic calculations confirmed the experimental results, which could be explained by the increased positive oxygen balance. Moreover, all analyses showed that the most promising blasting properties referred to the ANFO sample containing the microstructured charcoal additive of a C:Fe ratio of 4:1.     Young onset mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis and stroke-like episodes (MELAS) syndrome: a case report

    Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like Episodes Syndrome (MELAS) is a rare mitochondrial disorder characterised by diverse neurological and systemic manifestations. The key underlying mechanism of the disease is related to protein synthesis, energy depletion, and nitric oxide defciency. We present a case from a tertiary care hospital of a 19-year-old male with a history of seizure disorder and progressive neurological deficits. The patient was evaluated using clinical evaluations, laboratory tests, and radiological imaging to rule out the most serious complications. His symptoms included bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, visual disturbances, and recurrent headaches associated with vomiting. Neurological examination revealed signs of bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, visual field deficits, and asymmetric weakness in the four limbs. Diagnostic workup, including MRI findings of parieto-occipital lesions and elevated lactate levels, supported the diagnosis of MELAS syndrome. Genetic testing confirmed the presence of the m.3243A>G mutation in mitochondrial DNA. After a 2-week hospital stay, the patient was discharged with a follow-up plan. The main goals of treatment are to effectively manage disease complications and to enhance the patient's overall quality of life. Management involved the adjustment of antiepileptic therapy and initiation of mitochondrial supplements. This case underscores the clinical spectrum and diagnostic challenges of MELAS syndrome, emphasising the importance of early recognition and tailored treatment strategies to optimise patient outcomes

Jej celem jest zarówno zaprezentowanie międzysektorowej współpracy, jej zegzemplifikowanie wypracowanymi, dobrymi praktykami wspierania sytuacji edukacyjnej dzieci z chorobami rzadkimi oraz wzbudzenie refleksji.     Excavations at the Late Bronze Age site of Erimi-Pitharka, Cyprus (2022-2023 seasons): Regional production and storage in the Kouris Valley

    The rural site of Erimi-Pitharka is located in the archaeologically rich Kouris Valley of south-central Cyprus. Previous rescue excavations by the Department of Antiquities, Cyprus, have revealed a subterranean complex, industrial areas, and a building complex at the highest topographical point of the site. New excavations by an international team began in 2022 and continued in 2023. We here report on the findings from these first two seasons, which have focused on the large building complex in Area I/1A. Dated to Late Cypriot (LC) IIC-IIIA (c. 1300-1150 BCE), this part of the site is characterised by an emphasis on agricultural production and storage. The inhabitants took advantage of the soft limestone-rich bedrock to create subterranean and semi-subterranean installations, rooms and storage spaces, and pithoi were similarly used for storage and industrial activities.     Carboxylated pillar[5]arene cavity accommodates organic cations in the host-guest complexes

    The electron-rich cavity of carboxylated pillar[5]arene efficiently encapsulates cationic guest molecules within supramolecular assemblies. In this study we provide evidence of the host-guest complexation between carboxylated pillar[5]arene and benzamidine, a competitive inhibitor of serine proteases. We show the unexpected inclusion of the polar amidinium functionality within the central cavity of the macrocyclic host sustained by N+-H···π and cation···π interactions. In addition to the in-cavity complexation, simultaneous external binding of bipyridinium guests with varying stoichiometries has been observed. The interesting aspect is the inclusion of a hydrogen bonded pair of 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene guests into pillar[5]arene cavity. Additional insights into inclusion characteristics are provided by NMR and ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM-MS) studies, offering information for the solution/gas phase and enabling a comprehensive description of the complexation process across different phases.
