A tool for the interpretation of organizational myths: The case of innovation in the City of MedellÃn, Colombia
Considering that myths in organizations tell stories that allow recognizing a set of values, beliefs and ideologies that imprint individuality to the organization, the purpose of this study is to propose a conceptual tool for Organizational management by analyzing and interpreting myths in organizations. Said tool can be easily implemented, as it is shown in its practical application to the analysis of innovation in the city of MedellÃn, Colombia. In the past, MedellÃn was associated with drug trafficking and destruction and today is considered the most innovative city in the world. By applying the proposed tool to the innovation case of MedellÃn, it is possible to analyze and understand how this transformation was possible in the city of MedellÃn and how the myth of management is an intermediary between the myth of referenceâ paradigm of the pastâ and the organizational mythâ associated with organizational goals. © Common Ground Research Networks, Manuela Escobar-Sierra, Felipe Calderon-Valencia
Increase in steviol glycosides production from Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni under organo-mineral fertilization
The production of steviol glycosides, the active substance of Stevia rebaudiana plants, are of great medicinal and nutraceutical importance worldwide. Its production can be affected by diverse agronomic factors, including fertilization. The aim of this work was to assess the effect of organo-mineral fertilization (composted poultry manure mixed with inorganic fertilizer) on steviol glycosides and biomass production from two commercial crops of Stevia cv. Morita II under greenhouse conditions at two different locations (at 2569 and 1487 m.a.s.l). The effect was evaluated after 60 days, assessing steviol glycosides production (stevioside, rebaudioside A and C), biomass production and macro and micronutrients levels in leaves (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, zinc, iron, manganese and boron). The results showed that OM fertilizer (compost from poultry manure (hen) with inorganic salts) had an influence on biomass and total sglys production at Heliconia (1487 m.a.s.l.) and Santa Elena (2569 m.a.s.l.), performing better than or similar to mineral fertilizer. The correlation analysis revealed that nutrients as nitrogen, calcium, magnesium and sulfur had a significant correlation with steviol glycoside production. Likewise, these nutrients increased with organo-mineral fertilization. Thus, this work suggests that the application of organo-mineral fertilizer is recommended for increasing the productivity of S. rebaudiana in terms of biomass and steviol glycosides production under greenhouse conditions in Colombia. Efficient organic material uses in crop production, decrease dependence on the use of mineral fertilizers. © 2020 Elsevier B.V
Peace and coexistence in Lasallian high schools of the metropolitan area of the Aburra Valley and Medellin [Paz y convivencia en los colegios de La Salle del Valle de Aburrá y Medellín]
Introduction: This article aims to unravel the meaning of human affairs in school. Objective: It seeks to understand the meaning of collective imaginaries against the ideal of the individual that is constituted given their political, ethical and civic formation in relation to coexistence and peace in the four Lasallian Institutions of the Metropolitan Area of the Aburra Valley and Medellin. Materials and methods: The methodology is hermeneutic; in addition, anthropology of education was applied. The information used starts from the diagnostic phase of the project. Its collection was made from unstructured interviews with alumni and from focus groups; social cartographies were worked on with students, parents, teachers and managers. Results: The process evidenced intentional pedagogical practices from the formation purposes of the Lasallista Norandino District (DLN), and the Lasallian Educational Project and its formative proposal for good living. Conclusions: It is clear that despite the guidelines that seek to promote relations of peace and coexistence, this intention comes into tension because situations generating impositions emerge and respect among people disappear. There are also expressions of recognition and solidarity towards others, but especially regarding economic differences. As for coexistence, there are problems of imposition and vertical power relations without dialogic possibilities among the actors. The imposition of the norm does not allow for reflection, and generates emotions that distance themselves from coexistence and a peaceful and autonomous construction. © 2019 Corporacion Universitaria Lasallista
The purpose of this paper is to consolidate the measurement of a lovemark and unify a set of elements that form a lovemark in university institutions by considering the differences between students and graduates. Based on a review of factors that build a lovemark, brand loyalty relationships were explored. In addition, an empirical study was carried out and applied to a sample of 257 participants at the National University of Colombia (unal), one of the most important universities in this country. The results validated the positive effects of brand love, brand experience, and brand involvement on brand loyalty, the determining factor of a university lovemark. This article is one of the first works integrating all the constructs proposed by prior research studies, which, until now, have approached lovemark and brand loyalty separately. © 2019, Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Opportunity-related behaviors in international entrepreneurship research: a multilevel analysis of antecedents, processes, and outcomes
The opportunity has become a central concept in International Entrepreneurship (IE) literature, and there is now a critical mass of literature focused on entrepreneurial behaviors of pursuing opportunities across national borders. However, scholars claim that research on these opportunity-related behaviors should consider a multilevel analysis where the interaction between the contexts, entrepreneurial action, and the opportunities can be clarified. From a multilevel analysis, the present study aims to understand antecedents, processes, and outcomes of opportunity-driven behaviors in the IE field. By conducting a systematic literature review, we analyze studies over the last 30 years (1989 2019). We found that the IE research around opportunities and related behaviors, far from suffering paucity and a weak conceptual basis, is abundant and is broadening its territory and boundaries. This study makes four contributions. First, we extend opportunity-related research in IE literature by considering a multilevel approach that incorporates individual, firm, and environmental aspects. Second, we offer an integrative model that outlines the antecedents, processes, and outcomes of opportunity-driven behaviors. Third, we suggest a definition of the IE field and the opportunity concept that can enrich the international opportunity debate, as well as its theoretical discussion. Fourth, we present theoretical contributions by identifying past advances and directions for future research. © 2020, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature
Numerical solution of the Vlasov-Maxwell system of equations for cylindrical plasmas
We solved numerically the Vlasov-Maxwell system of equations for a bounded cylindrical and radial inhomogeneous plasma which is confined by a strong magnetic field directed along the axis cylinder. Through this solution we found numerically the radial structure of the axial electric field corresponding to the high frequency fundamental transverse magnetic mode propagating in the cylindrical wave guide. Our result shows that the intensity of the electric field tends to be higher in those regions where the plasma is denser and also the field presents oscillations with intensities that decrease and vanish at the radial plasma boundary. This behavior could be relevant in the design of efficient modern plasma based particle accelerators that use the axial electric field to achieve this task. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd
Virtual environment to co-create digital educational resources in higher education [Entorno virtual para cocrear recursos educativos digitales en la educación superior]
"This article presents an approach of a virtual learning environment, which through an online platform allows the co-creation of digital educational resources for higher education in Colombia. This proposal results from a research process oriented to the application of effective teaching-learning methodologies and strategies for university environments. Co-creation is approached as a significant method for the design of learning contents, due to the representative relationship among the actors involved in the resources production (user-designer), and the theoretical and experiential knowledge that each one has and is applied in a virtual environment. The main objective of the study is ""to implement a model for the co-creation and production of open educational contents through the usage of a virtual platform"", which is circumscribed in the qualitative perspective, from the hermeneutical methodological approach. As results and conclusions, it is stated that the concept of co-creation opens up multiple possibilities to create enriched processes, led and generated by both the teacher and the students. It is a two-way action where both profiles propose, produce, and distribute in order to generate educational resources and share interest and common knowledge. © 2020 Red Universitaria de Campus Virtuales.
