Hermeneutics of the judicial text: A construction based on Paul Ricoeur [Hermenéutica del texto judicial: Una construcción desde Paul Ricoeur]
"The aim of this paper is to propose a hermeneutics of the judicial text based on Paul Ricoeur's philosophy. For this purpose, the paper will propose, firstly, how to approach the judicial decision as text; secondly, the paper will argue from Paul Ricoeur's notion of ""Hermeneutic Arc,"" how explanation and understanding as a hermeneutic method are given in the judicial decision. The final purpose is to show how in some cases the comprehension of ourselves could go through the hermeneutics made to the judicial text. © 2020 Universidad Panamericana. All rights reserved.
Understanding the disrupting mechanism of the Tau aggregation motif 306VQIVYK311 by phenylthiazolyl-hydrazides inhibitors
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the abnormal processing of the Tau and the amyloid precursor proteins. The unusual aggregation of Tau is based on the formation of intermolecular ?-sheets through two motifs: 275VQIINK280 and 306VQIVYK311. Phenylthiazolyl-hydrazides (PTHs) are capable of inhibiting/disassembling Tau aggregates. However, the disaggregation mechanism of Tau oligomers by PTHs is still unknown. In this work, we studied the disruption of the oligomeric form of the Tau motif 306VQIVYK311 by PTHs through molecular docking, molecular dynamics, and free energy calculations. We predicted hydrophobic interactions as the major driving forces for the stabilization of Tau oligomer, with V306 and I308 being the major contributors. Nonpolar component of the binding free energy is essential to stabilize Tau-PTH complexes. PTHs disrupted mainly the van der Waals interactions between the monomers, leading to oligomer destabilization. Destabilization of full Tau filament by PTHs and emodin was not observed in the sampled 20 ns; however, in all cases, the nonpolar component of the binding free energy is essential for the formation of Tau filament-PTH and Tau filament-emodin. These results provide useful clues for the design of more effective Tau-aggregation inhibitors. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Lt
A Kerr magnetometer setup in the kHz regime based on open-hardware architecture
A high sensitivity Kerr magnetometer (?I/I = 1/30) is presented, making use of open source hardware and software. By making time resolved measurements (up to 0.15 s/cycle) the signal quality has been greatly improved up to an order of magnitude, enabling us to compare our measurements with commercial vibrating sample magnetometers. We also present an additional setup to amplify the Kerr signal in a 25:1 scale, cleaning a large part of the electronic and trigger noise. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd
International standards effect on corporate sustainability: A senior managers' perspective [Incidência das normas internacionais na sustentabilidade corporativa: Uma perspectiva da alta administração] [Incidencia de estándares internacionales en la sostenibilidad corporativa: Una perspectiva de la alta dirección]
International standards have an effect on corporate sustainability, contributing to the business performance and governance. The aim of this study is to analyse this effect from the senior manager's perception of a Colombian energy firm. The research methodology is an exploratory case study with 5 in-depth interviews. The results show that managers use standards seeking control and legitimacy from two complementary positions: a pragmatic one dealing with business performance and a prudent one dealing with business governance. It is concluded that the implementation of standards is the result of managers' leadership and values, giving identity to the company while making it face new social challenges. © 2016 Universidad ICESI. Atrial Rotor Modulation by Localized Dofetilide Application: An in Silico Study
The rotor ablation has gained favor in recent years to treat chronic atrial fibrillation (CAF). However, it may cause complications in patients and the results remain suboptimal. Besides, antiarrhythmic drugs for the management of AF are not sufficiently effective and can cause significant cardiac and extracardiac side effects. To reduce the risk and increase the effectiveness, a rotor modulation via the localized release of dofetilide is proposed through an in silico study. A computational model of two-dimensional atrial tissue was implemented using human cell model under CAF conditions. Dofetilide was modeled blocking the ionic currents IKr and IKACH using Hill's equation. A CAF episode, sustained by a rotor, was simulated. Different concentrations of dofetilide were applied in specific distributions based on the rotor tip location, detected by phase map analysis. Non-localized application of dofetilide resulted in the benefit of CAF progression. In contrast, localized dofetilide liberation terminated the CAF episode. These results could have therapeutic implications in novel treatments of CAF. © 2018 Creative Commons Attribution
A Comparative Analysis of the Implementation of the Software Basic Profile of ISO/IEC 29110 in Thirteen Teams That Used Predictive Versus Adaptive Life Cycles
The growing of the software demand has created opportunities for software development organizations. Especially for very small entities (VSEs), because a large number of them produce software for medium and large companies as part of a production chain that provides products and services to satisfy market needs. This situation highlights the increasing need for improving their software development processes in order to stay in business by developing quality software products and services with limited resources. Unfortunately, a common issue faced by most of the VSEs is the lack of knowledge and practical experience regarding the implementation of current SPI models and software engineering standards. In this context, the ISO/IEC 29110 series of standards and guides have been developed to help VSEs to improve their development processes. One of the main features of this standard is that it can be adapted to the software lifecycle of VSEs. This paper presents the results of a comparative analysis of 13 software organizations with teams that work using predictive methodologies and those using adaptive methodologies during the implementation of the software Basic profile of the ISO/IEC 29110. The results show that after executing the method teams have a high level of coverage regarding the ISO/IEC 29110. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019
An interferon gamma release assay specific for Histoplasma capsulatum to detect asymptomatic infected individuals: A proof of concept study
Histoplasmosis is the most common endemic mycosis in the Americas. Currently, there is no laboratory test capable to detect subclinical or latent infections by Histoplasma capsulatum (Hc), which might develop as severe infections in immunocompromised individuals. For the first time to our knowledge, we explore the suitability of an interferon gamma release assay (IGRA) to detect latent Hc infection in asymptomatic individuals. A cohort of 126 volunteers was enrolled in the study, 13 of which underwent a Hc infection in the past, and 93 of them showing risk factors for this infection. The remaining 20 participants did not refer any risk factors of Hc infection, but eight of them showed evidences of infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis. All participants were recruited in Medellin, Colombia, between January 2014 and December 2017. Whole blood samples were cultured with four different Hc crude antigens and phytohemaglutinin as positive control. The interferon (IFN)-? released by T lymphocytes upon antigen stimulation was quantified by ELISA. A defined cutoff value of 20 pg/ml for the IFN-? concentration allowed us to distinguish between the group with documented past infections and the group of noninfected individuals with high sensitivity (70-92%) and specificity (85-95%), for the four tested antigens. Positive 82-95% and negative 77-92% predictive values were also very high, comparable to those reported for commercially available IGRAs. The new test constitutes a promising screening method to detect individuals with latent Hc infection, even decades after the primary infection, as evidenced in this study. © The Author(s) 2018. Videoactivismo y construcción de identidades mediáticas, YouTube y #YoSoy132
The main goal of this paper is to analyze #YoSoy132 construction of mediatic identities through videoactivism, and to question if YouTube was determinant or simply instrumental in the implosion of the movement. During the 2012 “Mexican Spring”, students and citizens not only occupied the streets to quest for a “real democracy” or to express their dissent through very significant demonstrations, but they also occupied the internet to protest. First of all, identity features of the movement are analyzed in relation with the following variables: 1) nucleus of belonging, 2) main sociodemographic features, 3) forms of leadership, 4) interests, 5) collective identity, and 6) relationship with otherness. Second, through a qualitative methodology —content analysis—, this paper analyzes the most relevant pieces of videoactivism produced by young adults. This study focused on the role and function of the videos to know if social media was “instrumental” or “determinant”. Third, mediatic identities represented in the videos are analyzed by exploring the following aspects: a) protagonists appearing in the videos: main role, gender and age range, b) locations where these characters appear and c) type of identity represented: hegemonic or counterhegemonic, majority or minority. The main result of this research is that a resistence and contrahegemonic identity is created through YouTube videos by young Mexicans. Moreover, being #YoSoy132 goes far beyond being young, student or belonging to a specific university. In this regard, the scenario is not occupied by a single subject or specific group of people, but it belongs to the “oppressed” and to persons at risk or discrimination."El objetivo principal de este artículo es analizar la construcción de la identidad mediática a través del video activismo del #yosoy132 y cuestionar si YouTube fue determinante o simplemente instrumental en la implosión del movimiento.
