Internet of things electromechanical method and device for new or installed gas stoves: Making home safier
Electronic devices have been dabbled into houses to perform automatic tasks and fulfill different needs such as illumination, cooking, air conditioning, surveillance, among others. Furthermore, those elements can collect data from the environment in order to be processed and give better products and services, so, Internet of Things capabilities arises to home, highly cohesive with domotics. However, for developing countries, smart appliances are expensive, and old fridges, washing machines, etc., are still operative, so they must not to be discarded. Other very used appliances are stoves, which work with heating methods like electrical resistances, electrical induction or natural gas. The last one is the most used in a plenty of countries, due to its advantages regarding cost, for instance. Nonetheless, bad manipulation can cause gas leakages, and furthermore, injuries to people and conflagrations, affecting human lives and assets. Thus, a need has been identified regarding gas safety of gas stoves, conserving the installed base. This work shows the results of the main research and design considerations of a new cutting-edge technology that protects people of bad manipulation of already installed or new gas stoves, including the Internet of Things in order to monitor in real-time possible gas leakages and take actions. © 2019 AISTI
Decision making and criminal responsibility regarding money laundering in Ecuador [Toma de decisiones y responsabilidad penal frente al lavado de activos en Ecuador]
Money laundering is a transnational criminal phenomenon that affects countries within a globalized economy. In Ecuador, when the Integral Organic Code (COIP) comes into force in 2014, this conduct is sanctioned more severely and, for the first time, legal persons are included in criminal activities. In this context, by using a qualitative methodology and the case study method, this paper seeks to determine the decision of criminal decision on the basis of Becker's Economic Analysis of Law (AED), especially the cost-benefit ratio seen from the perspective of the agent (natural-legal person). The conclusion shows that the penalty imposed on a natural person can generate a cost for the State, whereas for a legal person it entails an affectation on the organization, as well as on the economic circuit of the country. © 2019 Centro Estudios Derecho Penal. Tutela action against custody sentences: A manifestation of the constitutionalization of jurisprudential law in Colombia [Acción de tutela contra sentencias de tutela: Una manifestación de la constitucionalización del derecho jurisprudencial en Colombia]
As of SU-627 of 2015, the current constitutional precedent regarding the admissibility of the tutela action against custody sentences allows the application of two constitutional doctrines that are hermeneutically refined without generating the existence of a chaotic jurisprudential line: (i) the general rule of inadmissibility of the tutela action against judgments of guardianship argued in institutions such as the right to the second instance, the possible revision of the sentences of guardianship, constitutional res judicata and the immediate enforcement of the guardianship sentence; and, (ii) the exceptional origin of the tutela action against custody sentences when a situation of fraud is presented that configures the phenomenon of fraudulent res judicata in application of the principle fraus omnia corrumpit (fraud corrupts everything). This constitutional precedent can be described as a manifestation of the constitutionalization of jurisprudential law in Colombia that is characterized by: (i) the reconfiguration of the system of sources of law; (ii) the incorporation of new methods of interpretation; and, (iii) the opening to new forms of constitutional litigation. © 2019, Universidad de Talca,. Methodological implications of assessing ict initiatives from the field of communication [Implicaciones metodológicas de la evaluación de iniciativas tic desde el campo de la comunicación]
Introduction: This article explains the epistemological implications leading to the generation of a qualitative ICT Evaluation Tool. Such tool was validated through a broad research process which included two pilot tests under the modality of consultancy work. Objective: Investigate the meanings and representations made by the subjects involved in an ICT initiative through the design and testing of a relevant evaluation tool. Materials and methods: Using ethnography, the meanings and representations made by the subjects involved in an ICT initiative were researched through their relationship with technologies. To do this, instruments constituting the ValoraTic Tool were used: focus groups, semi-structured interviews and digital forums. Results: It is possible to analyze the achievements of an ICT initiative through an appropriate evaluation system allowing to analyze issues such as the level of significance of technological tools for users, the generation of indicators that respond to their own contexts, and the social capital achieved in an environment mediated by this type of technology. This is done by using as conceptual bases the vision of education offered by legitimized organizations such as Unesco, and taking advantage of novel digital possibilities such as digital ethnography. Conclusions: ValoraTic constitutes a methodological possibility whose basic principle is to analyze the generation of knowledge in environments mediated by technology, allowing to understand selfcontexts with their structural limitations, in order to reach greater technological appropriation. © Corporacion Universitaria Lasallista
Implementation of the two-dimensional electrostatic particle-in-cell method
We provide a guide to implementing the particle-in-cell algorithm, which is useful for simulating diverse phenomena in plasmas. We focus on two-dimensional systems which have vector fields with three Cartesian components but depend only on two spatial coordinates. We describe the algorithm in detail, including particle-to-grid interpolation, the fast Fourier transform, the Boris algorithm, and the use of dimensionless units. As an example, we discuss a simulation of the two-stream instability, which occurs in a plasma system composed of two counter-streaming electrons and an ion background at rest. © 2020 American Association of Physics Teachers
Parameters for a genetic algorithm: An application for the order batching problem
This article aims to validate the parameters of a genetic algorithm for the order batching problem (OBP) in warehouses by defining the parameter values offering the best solution performance. Thus, a description of the OBP and the solution approaches based on item-oriented and group-oriented genetic algorithms are introduced. Then, the characteristics of a group-oriented genetic algorithm are shown, and experiments are performed to establish the parameter values related to population size, crossover rate, elitism rate, and mutation rate. Therefore, we provide the set of parameter values for the genetic algorithm offering better quality results in terms of total distance traveled, and some recommendations to reduce the computing time of the algorithm are presented. Adsorbent materials obtained from palm waste and its potential use for contaminants removal from aqueous solutions
This work reports the production of an adsorbent material obtained by H3PO4 chemical activation of oil palm waste (fiber). The experiments were carried out to explore methylene blue uptake by this adsorbent. The influence of initial dye concentration and adsorbent dosage was investigated. The adsorption equilibrium data of methylene blue onto the adsorbent material were best fitted to the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacity monolayer was of 20.85 mg g-1, which showed to be high compared to other adsorbent materials reported in the literature. Adsorption of methylene blue onto adsorbent material followed pseudo-second order model. The structural and chemical characterization of the adsorbent material was carried out by using various analytical techniques. FTIR showed the formation of oxygenated functional groups on the surface, which are very important for adsorption applications because they act as active sites capable of interacting with dye molecules. © 2019 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd
Detecting ultra-fast and near-infrared pulses based on two-photon absorption in multiple quantum wells
A theoretical framework and the computational infrastructure for optical characterization of a waveguide (WG) photodetector (PD) are presented based on multiples quantum well (MQW) with a rib structure that is able to resolve a light pulse with a temporal width of 10fs. Such pulses are limited to the C-band of optical telecommunications. This pulse width is shorter than the temporal resolution limit of a commercial PD, due to the nonlinear phenomenon known as nondegenerate two-photon absorption (ND2PA). The results show the importance of the operating characteristics that affect carrier generation rate (CGR). © 2019 World Scientific Publishing Company
La Función mediadora de la programación radiofónica universitaria de la ciudad de Monterrey Nuevo León
This article refers to a research on the social function of college radio in Mexico, which falls within the context of university media research. The theoretical approach of Manuel Martín Serrano and the mass communication model of professor Carlos Lozano were considered. The main objective of the research was to analyze the communicative mediation associated with the radio programming of three college radio stations (Radio UANL 89.7, Frecuencia TEC 94.9 and Radio UDEM 90.5) from the communicative perspective of the messages and the impact of the elements that they intervene in the construction of radio products, which are presented immediately under a classification of training, information, and entertainment. For researching the subject, a quantitative methodology was implemented, choosing “length of time” as an impact variable for the measurement of daily programming time, as well as the comparison of themes and communicative products projected by the broadcasting stations. The results indicate that the musical frame occupies between 60 % and 67 % of the programming. The generality shown in the radio programs lies in the homogeneity in programming schedules on the morning, because information contents monopolize most of spaces in the three stations, providing another option in quadrant that benefits the social function. The conclusions indicate a bet on diversification of programming and a communicative practice based on offering educative entertainment, showing a new space of interrelation as well as their understanding of the university’s identity development.Este artigo faz referência à pesquisa sobre a função social da radio universitária no México, inscrito no contexto de pesquisas em meios de comunicação universitários. Retoma-se a proposta teórica de Manuel Martín Serrano e o modelo de comunicação massiva do professor Carlos Lozano. O objetivo geral da pesquisa esteve em analisar a mediação comunicativa associada à programação radiofônica de três estações de rádio universitárias (Radio UANL89.7, Frecuencia TEC 94.9 e Radio UDEM 90.5) a partir da perspectiva comunicativa da mensagem e do impacto de elementos que intervêm na construção de produtos radiofônicos, os quais são apresentados de forma imediata sob a classificação de formativos, informativos e de entretenimento. Para a indagação do tema, implementou-se uma metodologia quantitativa e escolheu-se “tempo de duração” como variável de impacto para medir o tempo de programação diária, assim como o cotejo das temáticas e dos produtos comunicativos projetados pelas rádios. Os resultados obtidos indicaram que a temática musical ocupa entre 60 % e 67 % da programação. A generalidade que os programas radiofônicos universitários expõem é uma homogeneidade no horário matutino, devido ao fato que os conteúdos informativos tomam conta da maioria dos espaços nas três emissoras e assim proporciona uma opção a mais no quadrante que beneficia à função social. As conclusões obtidas indicam uma aposta na diversificação da programação e uma prática comunicativa baseada em oferecer entretenimento culto e mostrar um espaço novo de inter-relação, bem como sua compreensão do desenvolvimento identitário da universidade."Este artículo hace referencia a la investigación sobre la función social de la radio universitaria en México, el cual se inscribe en el contexto de investigaciones en medios de comunicación universitarios. El objetivo general de investigación radicó en analizar la mediación comunicativa asociada a la programación radiofónica de tres estaciones de radio universitarias (Radio UANL 89.7, Frecuencia TEC 94.9 y Radio UDEM 90.5) desde la perspectiva comunicativa del mensaje y el impacto de elementos que intervienen en la construcción de productos radiofónicos, los cuales se presentan en forma inmediata bajo la clasificación de formativos, informativos y de entretenimiento. Para la indagación del tema se implementó una metodología cuantitativa, y se eligió ""tiempo de duración"" como variable de impacto para medir el tiempo de programación diaria, así como el cotejo de las temáticas y los productos comunicativos que proyectan las radiodifusoras. Los resultados obtenidos indicaron que la temática musical ocupa entre 60 % y 67 % de la programación. La generalidad que exponen los programas radiofónicos universitarios es una homogeneidad en la barra matutina, debido que los contenidos informativos acaparan la mayoría de los espacios en las tres emisoras, con lo que se proporciona una opción más en el cuadrante que beneficie a la función social. Las conclusiones obtenidas indican una apuesta a la diversificación de la programación y una práctica comunicativa basada en el ofrecimiento de entretenimiento culto, que evidencia un espacio nuevo de interrelación así como su comprensión del desarrollo identitario de la universidad.
Factores sociales y humanos que influyen en la productividad del desarrollo de software
El proceso de desarrollo de software está centrado en las personas, exige integración y cohesión del equipo de trabajo para cumplir con los objetivos del proyecto (Hernández et al. 2016). Por lo tanto, los factores sociales y humanos (FSH) juegan un papel importante en la productividad y éxito del proceso. Este es uno de los temas de interés de las organizaciones de desarrollo de software, las cuales buscan constantemente aumentar la productividad de sus equipos (de Barros Sampaio et al. 2010). En otras palabras, la productividad de los equipos de desarrollo software se caracteriza por tener alto nivel de dependencia de los factores sociales y humanos (Cunha De Oliveira 2017) (Murphy-hill et al. 2019). Por consiguiente, es indispensable el estudio de dichos factores para atender necesidades de rendimiento de tales organizaciones.
En esta investigación se han encontrado estudios relacionados con factores que influyen en la productividad del desarrollo de software. En Oliveira et al. (2018) se presenta una revisión terciaria acerca de factores que influyen en la productividad del desarrollador. Esta revisión está basada en estudios secundarios que reúnen un conjunto de factores de influencia. Es el caso de Wagner and Ruhe (2008) que presenta una clasificación de factores técnicos y factores no-técnicos; Trendowicz and Münch (2009) identifican factores de influencia y factores de contexto; Dutra, Prikladnicki, and França (2015) clasifican los factores en factores de estados emergentes de equipo, factores de características individuales y factores de tareas de apoyo.
Por otra parte, Yilmaz (2013) destaca los aspectos sociales y perfiles de personalidad que deberían considerarse en la productividad de los equipos de desarrollo de software, ya que dicha productividad depende en gran medida de los aspectos sociales de productividad los cuales pueden ser alcanzados por una mejor alineación social. Esto quiere decir que los factores sociales influyen en la productividad del software (Yilmaz, O’Connor, and Clarke 2016). Así mismo, según los resultados de Cunha De Oliveira (2017), uno de los factores preponderantes en la productividad de los desarrolladores de las organizaciones de software son los factores humanos, estos se destacan entre los factores organizacionales y técnicos en los que fueron clasificados los factores de influencia en la productividad durante su estudio.
Lo anterior fundamenta la motivación para estudiar los factores sociales y humanos que pueden influir en la productividad de equipos de desarrollo de software. Se ha realizado esta investigación para clasificar tales factores asociados a la productividad de equipos de desarrollo de software. Para conseguir esta clasificación fue necesario diseñar una metodología basada en procesos de revisión sistemática de literatura e incluir un análisis cíclico con expertos en psicología. La clasificación de factores sociales y humanos y sus respectivas definiciones son los resultados parciales de esta investigación. La clasificación propuesta es un insumo esencial para el establecimiento de las acciones de mejora
