Latin american youth identity, based on the analysis of the impact of glocal socio-communicative discourse. Colombia case [Identidad juvenil latinoamericana a travÉs del anÁlisis de los discursos sociocomunicativos glocales. Caso colombia]
This article is the result of the research project which inquired about the existence of a common Latin American Youth Identity, based on the analysis of the iconic references of young people. The methodology, which was shared with researchers from Spain and Argentina, incorporated participatory tools in a research seedbed with communication students from the University of Medellin. The analysis was based on Panofsky´s principles of iconology (1998), through techniques of collaborative/cooperative work. The main findings point to the historical and institutional mediation in the conformation of the Youth Identity, configured from the social discourses. © 2020 Universidad de Alicante. The impact of international financial reporting standards on accounting quality: Evidence from Latin America and the Caribbean [Impacto de los estándares internacionales de información financiera en la calidad contable: Evidencia desde Latinoamérica y el Caribe]
This paper examines the impact of the application of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) on accounting quality (financial report quality) of Latin American and Caribbean economies, regarding to their local accounting regulatory standards (Local GAAP). By using a sample of listed companies in Latin America and the Caribbean from 2006 to 2016, accounting quality is assessed under three measurement criteria: earnings management, timely loss recognition (accounting attributes) and value relevance (market attributes). The findings suggest a partial accounting quality improvement; it is showed through a decrease on the level of earnings management only after several years of the IFRS application. However, there is no evidence of a greater opportunity to recognize large losses; furthermore, the generated accounting information under IFRS is not valued, with greater usefulness by market agents. © 2019 Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. Models of relational marketing in education and its articulation with the university teacher [Modelos de mercadeo relacional en educación: Articulación con el docente universitario]
In recent times, phenomena such as globalization have led to the creation of new ways of relating in the educational context to generate value in the perception of each institution. That is why, based on this research, the aim is to identify the relational marketing models that have been applied in some Higher Education Institutions to understand what their main analysis variables are and how they have involved the teacher. To achieve this, the literature review methodology is used and as a result there are eighteen marketing models with a relational approach, concluding that they have focused on different audiences such as students, graduates and industry, but the application to teachers as the subject of the model It has been scarce. © Universidad del Zulia. Search for magnetically-induced signatures in the arrival directions of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays measured at the Pierre Auger Observatory
We search for signals of magnetically-induced effects in the arrival directions of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays detected at the Pierre Auger Observatory. We apply two different methods. One is a search for sets of events that show a correlation between their arrival direction and the inverse of their energy, which would be expected if they come from the same point-like source, they have the same electric charge and their deflection is relatively small and coherent. We refer to these sets of events as "multiplets". The second method, called "thrust", is a principal axis analysis aimed to detect the elongated patterns in a region of interest. We study the sensitivity of both methods using a benchmark simulation and we apply them to data in two different searches. The first search is done assuming as source candidates a list of nearby active galactic nuclei and starburst galaxies. The second is an all-sky blind search. We report the results and we find no statistically significant features. We discuss the compatibility of these results with the indications on the mass composition inferred from data of the Pierre Auger Observatory. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd and Sissa Medialab
Rule of law and constitutional model against the 2020 pandemic [Estado de derecho y modelo constitucional frente a la pandemia 2020]
The objective of this work is to show the relationship between the rule of law and crises. The Legislative State of Law will emerge from the crisis of the absolutist model, the English, American, French revolutions and the independence processes of Latin America will allow its consolidation. In other crisis, that arouse from the Second World War, many states assumed the constitutional model of Law. With an analytical-descriptive methodology, it was possible to conclude that, in the face of the greatest health crisis of the last 100 years in the world, generated by the covid-19 pandemic and the use and abuse of states of exception by states to face this crisis, the Inter-American Human Rights System will be one of the calls to preserve the rule of law, consolidating what some have called the Conventional State of Rights. © 2020, Universidad del Zulia. Export performance, market orientation and adaptation strategies of small and medium enterprises [Desempeño exportador, orientación al mercado y estrategias de adaptación de pequeñas y medianas empresas]
The internationalization processes of small and medium-sized companies have been extensively studied in the field of international business, however, the effect of marketing strategies on the process of international expansion of these companies has not been studied in detailed. This article aims to analyze the relationship between adaptation and standardization strategies, market orientation and international performance. For this, a quantitative methodology was used, in which 70 Colombian SMEs with international activities were analyzed. The data was processed using bi-varied analyzes in search of relationships between the three variables part of the study. The results indicate that there is no relationship between the adaptation of the market mix and the export performance of Colombian SMEs; which explains how the heterogeneity of the markets, the specific circumstances of the industry and the company related factors can affect the selection and success of an adaptation strategy of the market mix. © 2020, Universidad del Zulia. Virtual tool for the promotion of anaerobic conversion technologies of residual biomass in Colombian rural areas. [Herramienta virtual para la promoción de tecnologías de conversión anaerobia de biomasa residual en zonas rurales del territorio colombiano]
The effects of climate change are more evident and destructive every year, because of this, investments in nonconventional energy sources are increasing rapidly and countries are reinforcing their policies to promote the use, research and implementation of new low-carbon technologies. With this in mind, this paper explores a software for estimating the biogas generation potential of livestock; and its use as a virtual tool to inform the inhabitants of Colombian rural areas of the energy potential of residual biomass with easy to understand indicators and comparisons. Results of the proposed software are based on reported data from scientific sources and results are identical to those calculated by traditional mathematical models. The authors expect to enhance the adoption of anaerobic digestion technologies by releasing this software through governmental, non-governmental and non-profit organizations. © 2020 AISTI
Analysis of the scale-dependence of the hydraulic conductivity in complex fractured media
Fractured geological media are complex systems where hydrodynamic parameters are highly variable as result of their structure. Indeed, measured parameters depend on the scale and the implemented methodologies. with high variability of hydrodynamic parameters. This variableness also depends on the scale of measurement. Most theoretical frameworks assume homogeneous media adding uncertainty to the fractured media hydrogeological characterization. In fractured media, the complexity is even harder to characterize as available theoretical frameworks assume homogeneous media. Nevertheless, the increase of underground engineering projects and their reported impacts on surface and groundwater resources claim efforts to a better understanding of fractured media groundwater hydrodynamics. In this work, we propose a general approach for the scale-dependence of the hydraulic conductivity based on power law concepts. To do so, the hydraulic conductivity field of a highly fractured massif in the Colombian Andes is estimated over scales from 6 cm to 12 km. Laboratory measurements, re-analyzes of hydraulic tests, and calibration of 3D numerical models were performed, using the La Línea tunnels (in Colombia) as real scale laboratory. Hydraulic conductivity values vary up to four orders of magnitude at each characteristic length scale and show an increase until the local scale, followed by a small decrease at regional scale. In this way, field and regional scales display the same orders of magnitude. Finally, the scale-dependence of the hydraulic conductivity values based on power law concepts is proposed. As a consequence, it suggests the possibility to use field data in regional models, once hydrogeological units and structures are properly defined. © 2018 Elsevier B.V
Discourses regarding construction of youth identity in Latin America. Political, educational and cultural phenomenon. A look from colombia. [Discursos en torno a la construcción de identidad juvenil en America Latina. Fenómeno político, educativo y cultural. Una mirada desde Colombia.]
This article results from the research project entitled: Analysis of the impact of socio-communicative glocal discourses on the construction of the reference around the concept of Latin American youth identity. Case of Colombia and it´s objective is to discuss our results with regard to supra-national conceptions and practices. This research project explores the idea of a common Latin American youth identity, based on iconic references selected by university students. Its methodological background consists of the work done in 2015 at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. This methodology was implemented, with some variations between 2016 and 2017 in Colombia and Argentina. For the Colombian case, participatory tools were used through a seedbed of research with communication students from Universidad de Medellin. The partial results were triangulated with data collected in surveys and discussion groups. The final results suggest the follow-up of supranational agendas embedded in media and educational discourses.
