Diagnosis of Vibriosis Involving Members of the Splendidus Clade in Cultured European Seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) in Turkey
This study aimed to investigate a case of acute vibriosis associated with Splendidus clade members in cultured European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) from the Aegean Region of Turkey. Moribund fish (150-250 g) had lesions on their skin that ranged from small patches to shallow haemorrhagic ulcers and fin rot. Gram-negative bacteria were isolated from the liver, kidney, and spleen of affected fish and through 16S rRNA gene sequencing these isolates were identified as Vibrio pomeroyi, Vibrio crassostreae, Vibrio sp., and Vibrio anguillarum. V. anguillarum was isolated from only one examined fish, the bacterium seems less important to this case of vibriosis than the other identified vibrio species. All isolates were susceptible to flumequine, kanamycin, oxytetracycline, florphenicol and enrofloxacine. Oval shaped Amyloodinium spp. on the skin and Diplectanum aquans among the secondary lamellae of gills were determined as secondary pathogens. Parasitical asphyxia, epithelial cells hyperplasia in the gills was observed in addition to typical histopathological findings associated with Vibriosis. In this study, V. crassostreae and V. pomeroyi have been reported for the first time in Turkey as a fish pathogen
Histological study on development of the digestive system of longfin batfish (Platax teira)
The ontogeny of the digestive tract in Platax teira was studied by means of optical microscopy from hatching to 30 days post-hatching. Collect fertilized eggs from P. teira broodstock, fertilize the eggs to hatch in hatching net bags, and rear the larvae in higher-place ponds. Observe the morphology and structure of the digestive tract of larvae 1-30 days post-hatching using tissue slicing technique. The results showed that the oral cavity of the larvae was closed and had not yet begun to differentiate at 1day post-hatching. Its digestive tract was close to the abdominal wall, and the yolk sac was completely dyed dark red. At 4 days post-hatching, the oropharyngeal cavity, esophagus, and stomach of the larvae had been communicated, and their oral cavity opened and food intake begins, entering the mixed period of endogenous nutrition and exogenous nutrition. Thereafter, the yolk sac gradually decreased to disappear, the esophagus, stomach, and intestines continued to differentiate, and their functions gradually improved. During 25-30 days post-hatching, the structure of the digestive tract of the larvae didn’t change much. Due to the increase in the size of the larvae, most changes in the digestive system are related to the complexity of the tissues and the size of the organs. Specifically, the number of mucosal folds and cells in the esophagus and intestine increases, and the gastric glands and pits in the stomach increase. The number of mucous membrane folds, mucosal epithelial cells and gastric glands in the digestive tract increase with the growth of the larvae, indicating that the development of the digestive system of P. teira is consistent with the growth of larvae, morphological development, feeding, metabolism and other functions consistently, its developmental stage is also adapted to the stages of the early development stage of P. teira

Going the Distance: Usability Testing the Library Search Interface
Presentation slidesThe ability of libraries to communicate online effectively has never been more important than it is now in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic thus making libraries more dependent than ever on their online presence. Part of creating an effective online presence is having a clear picture of who the users are and what they need. Libraries can accomplish this by conducting usability testing of online interfaces with library patrons. Usability testing is the evaluation of online tools by means of focusing on user-centered design. This presentation will present the results of usability testing on the Primo VE search interface conducted by a team of librarians representing a range of libraries in the University of Hawaiʻi system during the 2020 Fall semester. The presentation will also include implications for library and information literacy instruction, lessons learned, best practices, and tips for how other libraries can easily undertake their own usability testing

We will engage our audience through multiple hands-on activities and focus on student-centered learning. Examples include: self-evaluating and reflecting on current instruction curriculum; using Bloom's Taxonomy to create learning outcomes for library instruction that are learner-centered; practicing engaging learning strategies such as Pair/Share, using Opinion Polls, Ranking and Rating to engage students in the learning process, Cold Calling as a tool for increased feedback and interaction
Responding to COVID: How OER Are Helping
Presentation slidesOpen Educational Resources (OER) are openly licensed and public domain materials used in educational settings at all levels. The ten campuses of the University of Hawaiʻi have been promoting the use of OER since 2015, with faculty providing free learning resources to students that can be easily accessed online or printed at low cost. With the onset of COVID, OER becomes even more useful as faculty move their classes to remote learning environments. OER commit to accessibility and inclusiveness in addressing social inequities, now exacerbated by COVID. We’ll take a look at the impact OER has had at the University of Hawaiʻi and review the number of ways, worldwide, that OER is helping to make a difference in responding to COVID
Reconsidering the Diachrony of Tone in Rma
Prior work has suggested that proto-Rma was a non-tonal language and that tonal varieties underwent tonogenesis (Liú 1998, Evans 2001a-b). This paper re-examines the different arguments for the tonogenesis hypothesis and puts forward subgroup-internal and subgroup-external evidence for an alternative scenario in which tone, or its phonetic precursors, was present at the stage of proto-Rma. The subgroup-internal evidence comes from regular correspondences between tonal varieties. These data allow us to put forward a working hypothesis that proto-Rma had a two-way tonal contrast. Furthermore, existing accounts of how tonogenesis occurred in the tonal varieties are shown to be problematic. The subgroup-external evidence comes from regular tonal correspondences to two closely related tonal Trans-Himalayan subgroups: Prinmi, a modern language, and Tangut, a mediaeval language attested by written records from the 11th – 16th century. Regular correspondences among the tonal categories of these three subgroups, combined with the Rma-internal evidence allow us to more confidently reconstruct tone for proto-Rma
Ethnolinguistic Notes on the Language Endangerment Status of Mintil, an Aslian Language
The Mintil language is considered one of Malaysia’s most endangered languages. The language is a linguistically distinct member of the Menraq-Batek branch of the Northern Aslian language family. It is still spoken by around 400 people who refer to themselves as “Batek Mayah”. The previously assessed language endangerment status of Mintil as being ‘moribund’ is based on limited information. This paper reviews the history of the Mayah over the past century and presents research on the present endangerment status of Mintil. Based on this, I assert that the status of the Mintil language is stable since it continues to be spoken by almost all adults in the three established villages and it is also being passed on to children in that speech community. Nevertheless, the small number of speakers and the lack of official recognition mean that the language cannot be considered safe
