A First Look at Chen (Konyak) Argument and Clause Structures
Chen (Bodo-Konyak-Jingphaw, Tibeto-Burman) is an undocumented language of the Konyak ethnic group. It is spoken in northeast India and northwest Myanmar. This article provides a first description of the Chen simple argument and clause structures. Chen argument structures include both noun phrases and pronouns, which can both take case markers. Other noun phrase modifiers include demonstratives, possessors, adjectives, nouns, a plural marker, quantifiers, and gender. Chen adjectives are formed from attributive forms in combinations of ʔa V-pe, ʔa-V, V-pe, and ho-V. The pronoun inventory includes personal, interrogative, and demonstrative pronouns. Simple clauses exhibit SOV word order and include intransitive, transitive, ditransitive, attributive, and copula constructions
Forty years of fluctuation in the occurrence of two various metazoan parasites: Contracaecum multipapillatum (Nematoda) and Digenean metacercaria N1 in warm water fish culture in the Israeli farms
We present field observation results from October 2019 to February 2021 in Israeli fish farms. Surprisingly, two metazoan parasites, the larvae of Contracaecum multipapillatum and unidentified metacercaria N1, which disappeared from Israeli fish farming 30 years ago, were commonly found in the current study. The reappearance of these two helminths is likely related to changes in the management policy related to new regulations regarding bird-of-prey species. It means that farmers could have prevented parasitic infections by keeping away piscivorous birds from their fish ponds and by treating these ponds with appropriate compounds against the affected invertebrates
Dietary resveratrol attenuates oxidative stress in Pacific whiteleg shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei, in response to ammonia stress
To study the effect of resveratrol on the antioxidant system of Litopenaeus vannamei, resveratrol (0, 40, 80, 120 and 180 mg/kg) was added to the feed. After 7 days of culture, 10 tails of L. vannamei were randomly selected and exposure to ammonia stress at the sublethal concentration of ammonia (20 mg/L) for 24h. The results showed that the malondialdehyde (MDA) level in serum of shrimp fed with resveratrol decreased significantly compare to the control group (p< 0.05). After the ammonia stress, the MDA levels in serum in the Res 120 group and the Res 160 group was lower significantly than that in the control group (p< 0.05). The activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in the hepatopancreas and the serum, and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) in the serum of shrimps fed with resveratrol showed a decrease trend before the ammonia stress. Conversely, the activities of SOD and the total antioxidant competence (T-AOC) levels in the hepatopancreas in the Res 80 group and Res 120 group were significantly higher than that in the control group after the ammonia stress (p<0.05). Dietary resveratrol decreased oxidative damage, increased antioxidant enzyme activities under the ammonia stress. Our results demonstrated that resveratrol attenuated oxidative stress and improved the resistance to the ammonia stress

Stop AAPI Hate & Black Lives Matter: A General Understanding and Impact
Presentation slidesThis session will provide a general understanding of Black Lives Matter (BLM) and Stop Asian American and Pacific Islander Hate (StopAAPI Hate/#stopaapihate), what that means in our personal and/or professional lives, and its impact on libraries
Joeten-Kiyu Public Library Pacific Room!
Video presentationHafa Adai, Tiroow Wami, the Pacific Room contains collections of historical books, articles, periodicals, and multimedia information ranging from the Northern Mariana Islands and the islands of Micronesia, Melanesia, Indonesia, and Polynesia. History and culture play a huge role in all walks of life and, of course, connect the present to the past. Providing information and literacy on history, culture, customs, art, language, and traditions of the indigenous people of the Northern Mariana Islands and other Pacific islands are our top priority to help teach the next generation and different walks of life the importance of history and cultural heritage. Please join us in exploring The Pacific Room-- its history and its role in the Joeten-Kiyu Public library! BIBA, MARIANAS! BIBA, LITERACY! BIBA, LIBRARY
Virtually Initiated: A Personal Account of ASAONET’s Impact on the Life of a Young Anthropologist
The ASAONET listserv began in 1992, and the author of this account subscribed in 1997, immediately after returning from his first fieldwork in Vanuatu. Before attending his first meeting of the Association for Social Anthropology in Oceania (ASAO) in 2005, the email exchanges he witnessed between members provided food for his imagining what sort of community ASAO was. But even though at a number of points he was tempted to jump into the discussions, anxiety got the better of him and his interaction remained at the level of observation. He finally replied to the full list in response to one question, and the information he provided was much appreciated. But almost twenty years after signing up, he still hasn't initiated an ASAONET posting, the reasons for which are examined in this paper – which, even as far as auto-ethnographies go, is highly idiosyncratic
