Earth Day Video

Aloha! And Happy Earth Day. 
  
Today, we celebrate the beauty of our planet and reaffirm our pledge to combating the 
global climate crisis. 
  
The people of Hawaiʻi’s Second Congressional District know the threat that climate 
change presents to our communities. 
 
Each year we experience unprecedented flooding which has caused landslides, washed 
out bridges and dam failures, as well as rising sea levels that lead to coastal erosion 
visible along every island. 
 
When I came to Congress this year, I promised that I would address these issues and 
work tirelessly to ensure a healthy and sustainable environment for our oʻhana.  
  
Now, with just over 100 days in office, I’m working hard to fulfill that promise.   
 
In the House of Representatives, we’re working with President Biden to rebuild our 
country’s infrastructure with environmental sustainability as a top priority.  
 
I have co-sponsored multiple pieces of critical environmental legislation to reduce the 
use of single use plastics, fund the installation of green roof systems on public schools, 
protect Hawaiʻi’s ecosystem against invasive species, and restore environmental justice. 
  
Back home, I inspected wastewater treatment facilities across our islands and continue 
to push for a permanent solution to the over 50 million gallons of raw sewage being 
released into our environment through cesspools everyday. 
  
And just this week, I joined Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Markey to 
reintroduce the Green New Deal: our best chance at stopping climate catastrophe in its 
tracks. 
 
We are blessed to call Hawaiʻi our home, and I am constantly reminded of planet 
Earth’s natural beauty. Let’s protect this planet together so these treasures will be 
preserved for generations to come.
