    Jüdisches Kulturgut in Gustav Meyrinks Roman ‘Der Golem’

    Embargado hasta 01-01-2100Gustav Meyrinks "Golem" ist in vielfacher Weise zu lesen. So wird der Roman oft unter dem Aspekt der Golem-Sage analysiert oder nach rein stilistischen Merkmalen interpretiert. Doch ein Eingehen auf die Verbindung des symbolischen Gehalts mit jüdischem Wissen fehlte bisher. Anhand der Funktion des Golems im Roman lassen sich Rückschlüsse auf den Talmud ziehen. Da im Talmud das kabbalistische Wissen angelegt ist, rekurriert der Golem als Figur auf den kabbalistischen "Baum des Lebens". Es geht vor allem darum, dass der Roman nicht nur als ein phantastisches Werk zu sehen ist, sondern dass in ihm das jüdische Kulturgut eine zentrale Rolle spielt. Der Golem als Figur nimmt eine Mittlerfunktion ein. Letztlich basiert der Roman auf kabbalistischem Wissen und beschreibt den Weg des Menschen in eine universell-kosmische Integrität, in der Religion und Mystik ineinandergreifen

    Vitrification of goat, sheep, and cattle skin samples from whole ear extirpated after death and maintained at different storage and temperatures

    Embargado hasta 01/01/2100Proper tissue preservation from a wide range of animals of different species is of paramount importance, as these tissue samples could be used to reintroduce lost genes back into the breeding pool by somatic cloning. We aim to study the temporal and thermal post-mortem limits, tested in rabbits and pigs, within which there will be guarantees of obtaining living skin cells in goat, sheep, and cattle. We also intend to study the effect of vitrification on the ability of ear skin cells, stored at different times and temperatures, to attach to the substratum and grow in vitro after warming. Ears were stored either at 4 °C for 12, 252, and 348 h post-mortem (hpm), or at room temperature (22–25 °C) for 60 and 96 hpm. In all cases, skin samples from these ears were sorted into two groups: one group was in vitro cultured immediately after storage, and the other group was vitrified after storage and further in vitro cultured. In goat and sheep, no differences in attachment (100%: goat; 90–100%: sheep) or subconfluence (75–100%: goat; 70–100%: sheep) rates were observed between experimental groups. However, in days of culture to reach subconfluence, significant differences between non-vitrified and vitrified groups were observed when ears were stored at 4 °C for 12 and 252 hpm. In cattle, with respect to attachment rate, vitrified samples from ears stored at 22–25 °C for 60 hpm were different from non-vitrified control group (60 vs. 100%, respectively; P < 0.05). Also, days of culture to reach subconfluence were analysed by a non-parametric Cox Survival Analysis. In general, results from ANOVA and Survival Analysis were similar, because the proportion of censored data was quite low (9%), so the bias when using ANOVA is not too high. In spite of all the above, the lowest survival rates (75%: goat; 70%: sheep; and 40%: cattle) were sufficiently high to enable collection of skin samples from the majority of dead animals and their cryopreservation

Este aumento, nada despreciable, debe ir en correspondencia con un aumento de los ingresos públicos derivados de esta tipología de actividad económica de alojamiento turístico. Dentro de estos ingresos públicos, hemos decidido centrar nuestra investigación en aquellas cuestiones tributarias conflictivas derivadas de la aplicación del del Impuesto sobre Transmisiones Patrimoniales y Actos Jurídicos Documentado, concretamente, en su hecho imponible denominado Transmisiones Patrimoniales Onerosas, bajo cuyo ámbito se comprende la actividad de arrendamiento de viviendas con fines turísticos.     Ni/CeO2: a promising catalyst for water-gas shift

    Hydrogen appears to be the best answer for the limited fossil fuel resources. The water-gas shift (WGS) reaction is a key step in the production of clean hydrogen. Noble metal (Au, Pd, Pt) clusters supported on reducible oxides have emerged as a potentially new generation of WGS catalysts. The substitution of the noble metals by less expensive alternatives without compromising performance represents a big challenge. Ni/CeO2 systems were shown to be promising catalysts, but their activity strongly depends on the metal coverage. At medium and large coverages, they catalyze methane production, whereas at small coverage they are efficient for the WGS reaction. A fundamental understanding of this effect is paramount for a rational design of Ni-based catalysts. Here, we discuss the interaction of Ni clusters of varying size with the CeO2(111) surface and the chemisorption properties for C and CO. In doing this we are able to explain the coverage dependence of the chemical reactivity. Furthermore, we show that Ni/CeO2(111) is able to dissociate water - a crucial step in the WGS process

    Acetic acid is key for synergetic hydrogen production in Chlamydomonas-bacteria co-cultures

    Embargado hasta 01/01/2100This study is a proof of concept for the synergetic biohydrogen production in alga-bacteria co-cultures. Algal hydrogen photoproduction was obtained in sugar-containing media only when the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii was co-cultured with Pseudomonas putida (40.8 ml H2·L−1), Escherichia coli (35.1 ml H2·L−1) and Rhizobium etli (16.1 ml H2·L−1). Hydrogen photo-production in these co-cultures was not only linked to the induction of hypoxia, but to the ability of the bacteria to produce acetic acid from sugars. Synergetic hydrogen production was achieved by integrating the photobiological and fermentative production in Chlamydomonas and Escherichia coli co-cultures supplemented with glucose, which resulted in 60% more H2 production than the sum of the respective monocultures. This cooperation relied on the ability of the alga to consume the excreted bacterial acetic acid, which benefited both bacterial and algal hydrogen production. This knowledge may open new possibilities for the biohydrogen production from industrial wastes

    Bones in ditches: animal remains at the Copper Age enclosure of La Minilla (La Rambla, Andalusia) in the míddle Guadalquivir Valley

    Embargado hasta 01-01-2100This paper presents the fauna of the site of La Minilla (La Rambla, Córdoba, Spain), one of the few Copper Age ditch-enclosures identified in the Middle Guadalquivir River Valley. The site was discovered as a result of the chance find of Bell-Beaker vessels most likely linked to burials. Its features comprise two ditches (up to 3 m deep) containing the remains of a great quantity of domestic animals: pigs followed by cattle and caprines. Wild taxa are also present: red deer, aurochs and birds such as the great bustard and the barn owl. Radiocarbon analyses of the faunal remains yield dates spanning the mid-third millennium cal BC, a period coinciding with the peak of ditch-enclosure settlements in southern Iberia
