Evaluation of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalytic strategies for furfural production from sugar-derived biomass in a solvent-free green pressurized reaction media (subcritical water-CO2)
A green organic, solvent-free, subcritical water-CO2 (subW-CO2) system was proposed for the production of furfural from the main hemicellulose's sugar, xylose. Despite subW itself showed potential for furfural generation due to its catalytic properties under subcritical conditions; when CO2 was added into the system as pressurization agent, higher yields were reached due to its effect as a Brønsted acid when dissolved in water. Furthermore, its combination with different Lewis acidic catalysts showed a synergistic effect, further improving furfural yield. In a batch configuration, five homogeneous and four heterogeneous catalysts were tested at 180 °C and 5.5 MPa and compared for the first time in a subW-CO2 reaction medium. Different furfural production paths were determined for the two catalysts types, with higher xylose isomerization rates to xylulose when homogeneous trivalent metal catalysts were used. CrCl3 and Nafion NR50 resin were selected as best catalysts from each of the groups due to higher furfural production rates (51.9 ± 0.9 % yield/h) and higher furfural selectivity (60.9 %), respectively. Furthermore, Nafion NR50 catalytic activity remained unchanged after 10 runs at 180 °C. The green subW-CO2 system furfural yields were comparable to water-organic solvent biphasic ones, proving to be a promising green alternative. This work was supported by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (MICINN) and Next Generation UE (Plan de Recuperaciónn, Transformación y Resiliencia) [grant numbers TED2021-129311B–I00 and PDC2022-133443-I00 ] and the Junta de Castilla y León (JCyL) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) [grant number BU050P20 ]. Starting from the portrayal and fashion features related to the House of Austria (also known as House of Habsburg), we will develop a learning plan that integrates the active methodology of PBL (Project Based Learning) and the use of social media as a didactic tool. It is intended to be part of the Art History course curriculum within the 2nd year of Higher Secondary Education (Bachillerato). The current education law, the LOMLOE, using the Royal Decree 243/2022 and Decree 40/2022 of Castilla y León, have been used as a reference point for its development. Finally, the implementation of this Learning Plan during an internship period provided a series of results and conclusions that allow us to analyze the effectiveness of the topic, as well as the use of PBL and social media platforms like TikTok as part of the teaching-learning process
Two purposes are proposed in this work. First of all, and in general, know one of the basic pillars of the organization of the Roman rural world. We talk about the town as the epicenter of obtaining and using the most varied natural resources. Its origin and subsequent implementation in Roman Hispania, typologies, main characteristics and associated production will be studied. Secondly, we will transfer all of the above to the territory of the southeastern Hispanic peninsula, particularizing what we have seen in examples of towns in the Region of Murcia, in order to obtain an overview of these forms of rural occupation that were residence and business to the once inside the ager Carthaginensis
The configuration of a new heritage. The wall as a canvas in the rural murals by the artists Sojo and Brea from Extremadura (Spain)
The aesthetics of ‘Street Art’ as a heritage associated with a predominantly rural environment in the Spanish region of Extremadura is analysed. Several aspects are chosen for this purpose: two local artists, responsible for a large part of the contemporary murals in the area; the use of canvas as a leit-motiv on a wall; and, finally, the aesthetic evolution of the two creators. We discover how, even as ephemeral art, the canvas is associated with the anthropological practice of rural women and is claimed as a political stance in the face of the so-called ‘empty Spain’
Biography and artistic career of the architect Miguel de Abaría (ca. 1610-1681): review and new information
Miguel de Abaría was a prolific Guipuzcoan architect and stonemason from Beasain. ePOLANT: an Electronic Portfolio for the Self-Assessment of Language Teachers’ Competences
The Council of Europe has always considered language learning a pillar
in the construction of Europe, for this reason, several instruments have been
sponsored with the purpose of promoting and improving the quality of the
learning and teaching of additional language. Some of those documents are
used worldwide to establish and certify the levels of competence individuals
have attained; however, that has not been the case of teaching competences.
The instruments developed to contribute the homogenisation of language
teacher education have not been so widely known or applied. One of them,
The European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages (EPOSTL) tool for
the self-assessment of language teaching competences future teachers
(student teachers) of languages are expected to develop.
This doctoral dissertation analyses the EPOSTL in detail to understand
its sources, objectives and features and reviews the literature on its uses and
implementations. Once the utility of the EPOSTL for the promotion of critical
thinking, reflective practice, among other skills, has been determined, an
electronic tool for the self-assessment of language teaching competences,
ePOLANT (electronic Portfolio for Language Teachers) has been designed
incorporating the most relevant strengths of the EPSOTL whilst including new
features which solve the shortcomings encountered in the EPOSTL. ePOLANT
is a website specifically designed for student teachers to self-assess their level
in the development of the competences. It also enables teacher educators to
include the appropriate competences, chart their progress and provide
feedback in a much easier way than the EPOSTL did. The results of the case
study where ePOLANT has been implemented have been very positive, in
terms of its usability, practicality and utility. Consequently, future
developments and implementations of ePOLANT are proposed.Doctorado en Humanidades y Comunicació
The EU Taxonomy, sustainability reporting and financial institutions: understanding the elements driving regulatory uncertainty
The EU Taxonomy Regulation relies on sustainability reporting to channel
financial resources to sustainable activities. Financial institutions are key actors in
the Taxonomy setting because they operate as financial intermediaries and have a
dual role as both users and preparers of sustainability information. This paper
investigates the perceived uncertainty that characterizes the sustainability reporting
regulatory environment of a particular type of financial institution, banks, to
identify the elements that generate that perception. Drawing on literature on
regulatory uncertainty, this paper conducts a case study of the Spanish banking
industry informed by interviews and complemented by other data sources. The
analysis unveils two significant elements driving regulatory uncertainty: the
Taxonomy’s lack of clarity regarding the operationalization of its measures and
rules and the timeline and oversight of its implementation. The study also
documents that the Taxonomy induces uncertainty in the non-regulatory
environment due to its unpredictable impact on banks’ reputation and market
competition, as well as to the changes it provokes in banks’ internal structures and
processes to address regulatory requirements. As the perception of regulatory
uncertainty represents an impediment to compliance, understanding the elements
giving rise to it can help to mitigate such perception and facilitate the fulfillment
of regulatory demands. This investigation offers implications for policy and
practice to facilitate the production of the sustainability information banks must
disclose according to the EU Taxonomy, particularly the green asset ratioNicolas Garcia-Torea and Mercedes Luque-Vílchez acknowledge the financial support provided by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (TED2021-129520B-I00), Agencia Nacional de Investigación (PID2021-122389OB-I00) and Junta de Castilla y León (BU069P20 y BU029P23)
