What Lurks in the Peripheries: From Urban Margins to Marginal Genres in Short Stories by Margo Lanagan and Ariadna Castellarnau
This chapter explores the disaggregation and strangeness that increases when urban landscapes merge with suburban panoramas. When trespassing these liminal areas, a sense of in-betweenness brings about a lapse of uncertainty. The literature of the fantastic, in its search for “reality detours,” can profit from this singular scenario where space constitutes an unstable context. The present analysis focuses on two short story collections: Margo Lanagan’s Black Juice (2004) and Ariadna Castellarnau’s La oscuridad es un lugar (2020). While these narratives use realistic materials, there are cracks into reality in them that result in spatial distortions. The fantastic or unusual space is at the crossroads between the center-periphery and stasis-mobility dualisms. There are also recurrent transitions between the solid and realistic dimension of life in human settlements and the transient and imaginary side of existence on the outside. The correlation between these variables is almost regular. Drawing on the productive systematicity of this connection, this chapter illuminates the intersection of spatial borders with the conceptualization of liminal or hybrid genres such as the Unusual, the Weird, and the Eerie.
Spanish television series between 2015 and 2021: production, broadcasters and hegemonic genres and subgenres
In Spain, the arrival of international television operators on demand contributed to the formation of a new television system, starting in 2015. These large platforms were followed by national operators, content repositories and thematic payment channels. They all created a different production and distribution system. This research focus in the general characteristics of the production of Spanish serial fiction, in this period. It is interested in variables such as the volume of production, the channels and supports through which it is broadcast, the dominant seriality, or the relationship of forces between the producing companies. It takes also in account the narrative and thematic characteristics of the productions, which it classifies by genre and subgenre. For this, an own census has been carried out, which includes the Spanish serial fictions broadcast since 2015 to 2021 (n = 288). The registry by years of emission has generated a database with 458 records with which to quantify the proposed indicators. These productions have been organized by genre and subgenre, using inductive and a posteriori typologies. The results describe a complex panorama of production and distribution in which Spanish television fiction has made stronger in terms of business volume, but also diversity, originality and quality. That it has been affected by international standards, it is perceived the relevance of topics and narratives linked to the local (costumbrismo, interest in Spanish history, current sociopolitical issues, emerging concerns) that gives Spanish production an own idiosyncrasy. This stage is presented as the germ of the golden moment that domestic fiction production is experiencing today. Keywords: Televisión, video on demand services, television series, television fiction, television fiction genres, Spain. Broken Rotor Bar Detection in Closed Loop Inverter Fed Induction Motors Through Time-Frequency Techniques
In traction, automotive, and some industrial processes, the operation of the induction motor is set using speed. This creates an additional control loop that is external to the current controller that inverters already possess. While the impact of the latter control loop on fault detection in induction motors has already been studied, the influence of closed-loop speed control has not been explored enough. This paper presents the findings on the impact of PID speed control on the broken rotor bar fault detection. The study reveals that the constant corrective actions of the PID controller to correct the speed cause an increase in the noise level and spectral leakage around the first harmonic in the stator current spectrum that prevents fault detection. It is concluded that it is necessary to use time-frequency analysis techniques with excellent spectral resolution, such as the Dragon Transform or the Min-Norm technique
The position of agricultural entrepreneur in the negotiation of agro.industrial contracts and their strengthening
The protection of weak contractors must include agricultural, livestock and fishing entrepreneurs, who are at a disadvantage compared to processing industries when it comes to the sale or supply of their products. It is necessary to strengthen their negotiating position through the grouping of producers, who can agree on better contractual conditions, always with respect for the rules of defense of competition
Service-Learning as a Tool for Developing Competencies in International Cooperation in the Initial Training of CLIL Primary Education Teachers
This work is based on the implementation of the Service-Learning project "Comprehensive Education in Lebanon," developed in collaboration with the NGO 26 Letters, in the fourth year of the Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education at the University of Burgos (UBU), through the courses Reading Animation in English in Primary Education and Research and Innovation in Learning about Social and Natural Environment, based on the CLIL approach, using an English-language picture book as a starting point. The study focused on evaluating the acquisition of competencies in international cooperation among the students. To achieve this, a mixed methodology was employed: quantitative, through the S-LOMS questionnaire administered before and after the implementation, and qualitative, through the analysis of students' portfolios. The project's results show a significant improvement in competencies related to community engagement, critical thinking, and knowledge application. These improvements highlight the effectiveness of Service-Learning projects and underscore the importance of promoting an education that not only addresses academic learning but also the development of essential skills for active and responsible participation in a global community. The combination of methodologies provided a comprehensive and detailed view of the project's benefits, emphasizing the ability of these approaches to enrich the training of future teachers of English and better prepare them to face the challenges of education in an increasingly interconnected, plurilingual and pluricultural world.
Nasopharyngeal Botflies Oestrus ovis and Cephenemyia stimulator in Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus) from Northern Spain
Two of 19 roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) in northern Spain were infested with Cephenemyia stimulator and one individual with Oestrus ovis. Three larvae of O. ovis were recovered from the nasopharynx of an adult female deer examined in February 2017, during the hunting season in the province of Burgos. The larvae were identified by morphology, and DNA sequencing from cytochrome oxidase subunit I and 28S rDNA confirmed the identification of both species of larvae. The possibility of O. ovis parasitizing roe deer should be considered in the diagnosis of nasal bots in cervids

Challenges in Housing Accessibility Towards Universal Design
Housing is the most regulated type of building. Standards significantly influence the
design and construction quality, often making universal design more expensive and challenging to
implement. This study aims to review current Spanish regulations on accessibility in the housing
sector, to promote non-discriminatory and independent access, while ensuring the safety of each
resident. The research is exploratory and qualitative, involving a systematic bibliographic review
through an exhaustive search of regulations in force until December 2023. In Spain, there are three
laws (from 1999, 1960 and 2022), three decrees (from 2006, 2013 and 2015) and a national plan from the
regulatory framework. The main regulation, the Technical Building Code, outlines the accessibility,
safety and habitability requirements that buildings must adhere to. The most recent is Law 6/2022
on Cognitive Accessibility. Spain has robust legislation with innovative approaches and ambitious
goals. However, there is a lack of societal awareness that housing is a fundamental right and that the
regulations must be upheld. Several proposals for improvement have been made. These suggested
changes address the specific challenges of each region and promote more inclusive and adaptable
projects for all people from the early stages of design
Determination of ofloxacin in urine using UV/Vis absorption spectroelectrochemistry
UV–Vis absorption spectroelectrochemistry has been selected as a suitable multiresponse technique to determine
the fluoroquinolone ofloxacin in urine samples without any previous pretreatment. Due to the modification of the
working electrode surface during the oxidation of this antibiotic, the electrode has to be replaced or polished
between measurements. A new spectroelectrochemistry cell has been developed, which allows in an simple way
to perform reproducible experiments with different screen-printed electrodes. The new cell has been used to
perform analysis in a complex matrix such as urine. Due to the trilinear character of the spectroelectrochemical
data, PARAFAC has been used to determine ofloxacin with very good figures of merit, demonstrating the
capability of trilinear methods to avoid the influence of some interfering compounds.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovacion ´ and Agencia Estatal de Inves tigacion ´ (Grant numbers: MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, PID2020-113154RB-C21), Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovacion ´ y Uni versidades (Grant number: RED2022-134120-T), Junta de Castilla y Leon ´ and European Regional Development Fund (Grant number: BU036P23) are gratefully acknowledged for funding this work
Optimizing space use, technical skills in youth soccer's offensive phase
The present research aims to analyze the spatial management and technical performance exhibited by youth soccer players. Within the observational methodology framework, a type I/P/M design has been established. The sample consisted of all offensive actions performed by the champion of LaLiga Promises 2019. Following data registration, an associative search analysis between categorical variables was conducted using Pearson’s X2 statistic. The results indicate a lack of effective spatial management by players of this age, lacking breadth in their offensive development. Regarding the analysis of technical performance, the findings reveal that players of this age are indeed capable of executing successful technically complex actions, with individual actions such as dribbling, ball control, and shooting standing ou
