Proyecto de gestión de calidad y mejora para la disminución de los errores en el manejo de los citostáticos
Los fármacos citostáticos están formados por diversas sustancias químicas que se utilizan como terapia única o combinada para el tratamiento de enfermedades neoplásicas (1,2). La eficacia que se ha conseguido alcanzar en el tratamiento de este tipo de patologías con este tipo de fármacos ha incrementado el empleo de estos durante los últimos años. Sin embargo, a pesar de que son altamente beneficiosos, también conllevan una serie de riesgos, que pueden ser letales (2,3). Especialmente porque tienen un estrecho margen terapéutico, por lo que un pequeño error puede generar una alta toxicidad en los pacientes (4).
Las consecuencias para los pacientes pueden ser diversas. Algunos estudios han clasificado la severidad de los efectos adversos, como incidentes sin daño (50%), daños potenciales (41% )o incluso el fallecimiento (9%) (3)

Las Guerras Cántabras. Asedio al castro de La Loma (Santibáñez de la Peña -Palencia)
En tiempos de Augusto, en el periodo comprendido entre el 29-16 a .C, y en base a su política expansionista del Imperio para avanzar con los limites naturales, se producirá un conflicto bélico entre Roma y parte de los habitantes del norte de Hispania, entre ellos los cántabros y los astures, conocido como Guerras Cántabras. El Castro de la Loma ubicado en Santibáñez de la Peña, (Palencia), comprenderá uno de esos episodios bélicos como lugar de asedio romano y formando un eslabón más como componente de la victoria romana sobre Hispania. En este contexto el Castro de la Loma será un lugar de cerco militar, en el que se ha desarrollado labores de estudio e investigación derivando en la localización de un gran número de materiales encontrados.In the time of Augustus, in the period between 29-16 BC, and based on his expansionist policy of the Empire to advance with the natural limits, a war will occur between Rome and part of the inhabitants of northern Hispania, among them the Cantabrians and the Asturians, known as the Cantabrian Wars. The La Loma fort located in Santibáñez de la Peña, (Palencia), will include one of those war episodes as a site of a Roman siege and forming another link as a component of the Roman victory over Hispania. In this context, the La Loma fort will be a place of military siege, in which study and research work has been carried out, resulting in the location of many materials found
Quantitative Analysis of Vernacular Residential Building Typologies and Bioclimatic Strategies in the Warm-Summer Mediterranean Climate: The Montesinho Natural Park as a Case Study
Vernacular architecture embodies a lasting connection between communities, climates, and topographic landscapes, providing basic shelter needs for centuries. Adopting Montesinho Natural Park as a case study, this paper explores the essence of vernacular architecture, highlighting its adaptation and dynamic relationships with local climates, geographical features, and scarce resources. This paper firstly provides a quantitative characterisation of residential vernacular building typologies in several villages of the park based on field-collected data, using photography and videography for data reliability. The building typologies were then categorised according to their prominent architectural features, prioritising the access to the upper floor and door’s relative location and their integration within the landscape’s topography. The collected data were analysed by averaging each typology percentage across the villages and calculating dependency probabilities between each typology and the villages, aiming to identify the most frequent typologies and their dependency relationships with villages. This paper’s outcome entails the Protruding Staircase typology as the most common typology in the selected villages. Despite modern interventions, traditional features endure, emphasising practicality and resource efficiency. Among them, several bioclimatic strategies were identified and analysed qualitatively based on their potential contribution to energy efficiency and savings, highlighting their relationships with the local context and the typologies presented. The findings are important in supporting decision-making related to vernacular heritage in Northeastern Portugal. Deregulation of lactate permeability using a small-molecule transporter (Lactrans-1) disturbs intracellular pH and triggers cancer cell death
Due to the relevance of lactic acidosis in cancer, several therapeutic strategies have been developed targeting its production and/or regulation. In this matter, inhibition approaches of key proteins such as lactate dehydrogenase or monocarboxylate transporters have showed promising results, however, metabolic plasticity and tumor heterogeneity limits their efficacy. In this study, we explored the anticancer potential of a new strategy based on disturbing lactate permeability independently of monocarboxylate transporters activity using a small molecule ionophore named Lactrans-1. Derived from click-tambjamines, Lactrans-1 facilitates transmembrane lactate transportation in liposome models and reduces cancer cell viability. The results showed that Lactrans-1 triggered both apoptosis and necrosis depending on the cell line tested, displaying a synergistic effect in combination with first-line standard chemotherapeutic cisplatin. The ability of this compound to transport outward lactate anions was confirmed in A549 and HeLa cells, two cancer cell lines having distinct rates of lactate production. In addition, through cell viability reversion experiments it was possible to establish a correlation between the amount of lactate transported and the cytotoxic effect exhibited. The movement of lactate anions was accompanied with intracellular pH disturbances that included basification of lysosomes and acidification of the cytosol and mitochondria. We also observed mitochondrial swelling, increased ROS production and activation of oxidative stress signaling pathways p38-MAPK and JNK/SAPK. Our findings provide evidence that enhancement of lactate permeability is critical for cellular pH homeostasis and effective to trigger cancer cell death, suggesting that Lactrans-1 may be a promising anticancer therapy.This work was supported by Consejería de Educación de la Junta de Castilla y León [Project BU067P20] and Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación [Project PID2020-117610RB-100]. Potential of Subcritical Water Hydrolysis to Valorize Low-Valued Ray-Finned Fish (Labeobarbus nedgia): Effects of Hydrolysis Temperature and Pressurization Agent
Subcritical water (SCW) hydrolysis was applied to valorize the low-valued ray-finned fish (Labeobarbus nedgia) into valuable protein hydrolysates, employing N2 and CO2 as pressurization agents at varying temperatures (140, 160, 180, and 200 °C). The degree of hydrolysis (DH) and total free amino acid content increased with temperature for both pressurizing agents. The highest DH (54.5 ± 0.4%) and total free amino acid content (210 ± 1 mg/gprot) were observed at 200 °C when CO2 gas was used as the pressurizing agent. Predominantly, glycine and alanine were released for both pressurizing agents. The antioxidant activity, evaluated through three different assays, increased with temperature and was found to be the highest at 200 °C. Quantum revivals in HgTe/CdTe quantum wells and topological phase transitions
The time evolution of a wave packet is a tool to detect topological phase transitions in two-dimensional Dirac materials, such as graphene and silicene. Here we extend the analysis to HgTe/CdTe quantum wells and study the evolution of their electron current wave packet, using 2D effective Dirac Hamiltonians and different layer thicknesses. We show that the two different periodicities that appear in this temporal evolution reach a minimum near the critical thickness, where the system goes from normal to inverted regime. Moreover, the maximum of the electron current amplitude changes with the layer thickness, identifying that current maxima reach their higher value at the critical thickness. Thus, we can characterize the topological phase transitions in terms of the periodicity and amplitude of the electron currents.We thank the support of Spanish MICIU through the project PID2022- 138144NB-I00.
