Estimation of Leaf Area Index in vineyards by analysing projected shadows using UAV imagery
A few decades ago, farmers could precisely monitor their croplands just by walking over the fields, but this task becomes more difficult as farm size increases. Precision viticulture can help better understand the vineyard and measure some key structural parameters, such as the Leaf Area Index (LAI). Remote Sensing is a typical approach to monitoring vegetation which measures the spectral information directly emitted and reflected from vegetation. This study explores a new method for estimating LAI which measures the projected shadows of plants using UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) imagery. A flight mission over a vineyard was scheduled in the afternoon (15:30 to 16:00 solar time), which is the optimal time for the projection of vine shadows on the ground. Real LAI was measured destructively by removing all the vegetation from the area. Then, the projected shadows in the image were detected using machine learning methods (k-means and random forest) and analysed at pixel level using a customised R code. A strong linear relationship (R² = 0.76, RMSE = 0.160 m² m-2 and MAE = 0.139 m² m-2) was found between the shaded area and the LAI per vine. This is a quick and simple method, which is non-destructive and gives accurate results; moreover, flights can be scheduled during other periods of the day than solar noon, such as in the morning or afternoon, thus enabling pilots to extend their working day. Therefore, it may be a viable option for determining LAI in vineyards trained on Vertical Shoot Positioned (VSP) systems. This study was possible thanks to the financial support of Junta de Castilla y León (Spain), the project INIA RTA2014- 00077-C02, FPI-INIA2016-017 and FEDER funding
Improving Analog Reasoning in the Elderly
Analogical reasoning is perhaps the core element of
intelligent behavior and it has been related to successful aging. The present study aimed to impact
the analogical reasoning of the elderly individuals through the application of an analogies protocol
based on promoting fluency and flexibility (FFA) in relational responding. The FFA protocol was
designed specifically for this study and according to the available information on relational behavior.
A pre-post design with two conditions, five participants each ranged of 69 to 89 years old. At pretest, participants responded to two WAIS subscales as well as to three analogies tasks specifically
designed for the study. Then, fluency and flexibility analogies protocol (FFA) was applied to the
participants of the experimental condition throughout a week. Subsequently, in post-test, the same
measures used in the pre-test were applied. The FFA protocol had a significant impact on three of
the five measures. The sensitivity of the tests was discussed as well as different ways to improve
the protocol impact were all discussed. The relevant effect produced for most of the participants are
discussed and highlighted
Effectiveness of web-based feedback interventions for people with overweight and obesity: systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Artículo de revisiónBackground: Web-based delivered interventions have become an innovative option to treat health problems, like obesity. The aim of this systematic review and network meta-analysis was to analyze the effectiveness of web-based behavioral treatments for adults with overweight and obesity. Web- based interventions and comparison interventions (traditional weight control programs) were classified according to the following feedback characteristics: frequency, personalization, and provider (human versus machine). Method: From the initial 1789 studies, 15 were included in this review. A network meta- analysis was conducted to analyze the efficacy of web-based programs with traditional interventions, considering direct and indirect comparisons. The main outcome was the weight loss mean difference (kg) between baseline and post- treatment. Heterogeneity and consistency assumptions were validated to conduct the network meta-analysis. Results: Network meta-analysis showed comparisons between different treatment options. The main results were that Intensive Contact Web-based programs were more effective than wait-list (Mean Difference − 1.86 kg; 95% Confidence Interval: − 3.61, − 0.12). Moreover, Intensive Contact Web-based programs were more effective than the other web- based options and self-help traditional interventions. However, the only significant comparison was Intensive Contact Web-based programs versus Guided Self-Help Web-based programs (Mean Difference − 4.31 kg; 95% Confidence Interval: − 5,22, − 3,41). Intensive Contact Web-based programs were the most effective treatment option according the obtained results, achieving the first place in the ranking provided by the network meta-analysis with 98.5% of probabilities
Design of a Virtual Reality Software to Promote the Learning of Students with Dyslexia
The research conducted is part of the European project Erasmus+ FORDYSVAR, whose main objective is to contribute to the educational inclusion of students with dyslexia, aged between 10 and 16 years old, through the use of technology, specifically virtual reality (VR), to improve the access, participation, and educational achievement of students with this learning difficulty. This is a qualitative and interpretative study with a descriptive character. The objective of this work is to design a VR application that contributes to the learning of students with dyslexia based on user-centered design as a methodology. The developmental lines to be addressed in the application have been defined, the features to be included have been determined, and the activities that make up the software have been designed. All this is based on the analysis of the needs and interests of the end users (students with dyslexia) as well as the vision of professionals (teachers and dyslexia intervention specialists). The results obtained allow us to conclude that VR technology is an interesting avenue of treatment, as it offers a ludic, safe, controlled, and motivating environment for students with dyslexia. This work has been co-financed by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union through the 2018-1-ES01-KA201-050659 project. 'Youtuberism' as a response in times of lock down. A teaching experience of the subject of Criminal Procedural Law
The Pandemic caused by Covid19 has meant a reinvention of teaching, having to adapt hastily and without prior planning to the telematic methodology. The present experience was based on the application of a teaching with ‘youtubers’ dyes. With the intention of formalizing a more suggestive teaching, the classic didactic videos were adapted according to the actions carried out by those youtubersof greater fame in the dissemination of content, generating a set of ideas that combined the didactic aspect with the leisure one, of great acceptance among the students before learning by non-tedious means. As conclusions, a more suggestive teaching stands out through a more relaxed study climate that has contacted a high assessment and follow-up by the students surveyed

Bioactive compounds extraction from olive leaves by subcritical water extraction
Póster presentado en: 18th European Meeting on Supercritical Fluids. 2021, 4-6 de mayo, Burdeos (online)Olive leaves (OL) are one of the by-products generated during the pruning of olives tress and during separation process in olive processing. OL are lignocellulosic biomass with important amounts of extractives and lignin (Table 1). OL have a significant amount of phenolic compounds and other bioactive compounds such as mannitol. Mannitol is a sugar alcohol with reduced caloric value compared with other sugars with different applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries due to its functional properties. Mannitol production depends on the sorbitol market since is obtained as a by-product in the catalytic hydrogenation process of sorbitol production. Therefore, alternative process to obtain mannitol from natural sources avoiding the use of high temperatures would be advantageous to obtain this polyol.
In this work, valorization of OL was performed by subcritical water extraction in a batch pilot plant with 20 L capacity where 3 kg of the dry OL were put in contact with subcritical water at a medium temperature of 181.1 0.6 ºC. Figures 1 and 2 show the extraction curves of mannitol and some of the main polyphenols compounds identified by HPLC/DAD.
By SW treatment, mannitol extraction yield was nearly 100 % after 20 min of extraction (OL has 99 1 mg mannitol/ g dry OL). The main PC extracted by SW was oleuropein nearly 1.5 mg/g dry OL, but also verbascoside and luteolin-7-glucoside. TPC of SW extracts was 33 mg of gallic acid equivalent/g dry OL.JCyL and ERDF for financial support of projects BU301P18 and BU050P20 and to Agencia Estatal de Investigación for project funding PID2019-104950RB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033.
