Environmental Performance of a Cost-Effective Energy Renovation at the Neighbourhood Scale—The Case for Social Housing in Braga, Portugal
It is increasingly recognised that the energy renovation of the existing building stock will be determinant for achieving 2030 and 2050 decarbonisation targets in Europe. As operational energy is being dramatically reduced through regulatory efforts and funding from the European Union, the relevance of the environmental performance of these interventions becomes higher, namely regarding embodied energy and carbon emissions associated with the materials that compose the renovation solutions. Although some studies address these impacts in buildings, the range of studies focusing on the neighbourhood scale is limited. This article presents a methodological framework combining a life cycle cost assessment (LCC) and a life cycle assessment (LCA). The purpose is to assess the relevance of embodied energy and carbon emissions on the cost-effectiveness of building renovation solutions towards nZEB at the neighbourhood scale by comparing an operational energy approach and a whole life cycle approach in a case study of a social housing neighbourhood in Braga, Portugal. The results suggest an increase in indicators values demonstrating a negative impact on the achievable reduction of both energy and emissions when the whole life cycle approach is considered, which can constitute a critical point for policy formulation in the decarbonisation of the built environment.FCT / MCTES through national funds (PIDDAC) under the R&D Unit Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (ISISE), under reference UIDB/04029/2020. A Systematic Review of the Use of T-Pattern and T-String Analysis (TPA) With Theme: An Analysis Using Mixed Methods and Data Mining Techniques
In recent years, research interest in human and non-human behavioral analysis has
increased significantly. One key element in the resulting studies is the use of software
that facilitates comparative analysis of behavioral patterns, such as using T-Pattern and
T-String analysis -TPA- with THEME. Furthermore, all these studies use mixed methods
research. Results from these studies have indicated a certain amount of similarity
between the biological, temporal, and spatial patterns of human social interactions and
the interactions between the contents of their constituent cells. TPA has become an
important, widely-used technique in applied behavioral science research. The objectives
of the current review were: (1) To identify the results of research over the last 4 years
related to the concepts of T-Pattern, TPA, and THEME, since it is in this period in which
more publications on these topics have been detected (2) To examine the key concepts
and areas in the selected articles with respect to those concepts, applying data and text
mining techniques. The results indicate that, over the last 4 years, 20% of the studies
were laboratory focused with non-humans, 18% were in sports environments, 9% were
in psychological therapy environments and 9% were in natural human contexts. There
were also indications that TPA is beginning to be used in workplace environments, which
is a very promising setting for future research in this area. This work was funded through the Asistentes de voz e inteligencia artificial en Moodle: un camino hacia una universidad inteligente-SmartLearnUni- Project selected in the 2020 round of the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (Proyectos de I+D+i - RTI Tipo B. Baroque alterations to the exterior of León Cathedral
para comprender mejor la actualización emprendida en los siglos XVII y XVIII.León Cathedral underwent huge transformations during the baroque period although the majority of these alterations were reversed during a subsequent renovation in the nineteenth century.
The principal objective was to modernise the cathedral’s image, adapting it the new liturgical,
ideological, and aesthetic needs of the moment. The historic medieval exterior was thus altered
by the addition of baroque features. We were able to identify only a few disparate remains of the
alterations that took place, and these have been analysed to gain a better overview of the works
undertaken in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries
"Praelatos convenit in ecclesiis suis residere". Prelates should reside in their churches
Otra y no
One of the recommendations that the Council of Trento stated for the bishops, was the obligation
for them to dwell on the diócesis they have been assigned, in opposition to the generalised absenteeism of previous times: “It is convenient that the bishops live in their churches”. Another one no
less important: “Do not enrich your relatives”. This brought many positive consequences for the cathedrals, as bishops spent much of their wealth to the refurbishments of the temples or to start works
of difficult funding. They as well as expended a great deal on funerary chapels for their eternal rest.
This article shows general lines of actuation on this regard, as well as the most important examples
of them. Also it is shown the principal devotions to which these chapels were elevated. The chapels
have been seen to be highly in accordance with those popularised on the Spanish Contrareforma
The Tower of Babel and the conquest of sky. The building of late gothic towers and the renovation of european cathedrals
It is proposed to review the genesis of the late Gothic towers that completed the facades of
European cathedrals, together with their building processes and the architectural innovations on
which they are based. In the 15th century, these elements acquired the role of urban landmarks
and reached colossal dimensions. Its construction helped to renew the face of the cathedrals in
Europe and the skyline of its cities and also favoured the beginning of continued projects until the
end of the 19th century. In addition, the technical challenges they posed favoured the improvement of economic management and building systems, and scientific and technical development. How corporate social responsibility mediates the relationship between corporate reputation and enterprise risk management: evidence from Spain
Enterprise risk management (ERM) systems lessen the probability of risks harming
a frm’s reputation for a number of reasons. First, a high-quality ERM system makes
it less likely a frm will sufer a risk-based reputational crisis. Second, ERM systems
help companies to behave more responsibly towards all stakeholders, thereby ensuring frms meet stakeholders’ expectations. Third, when a crisis stemming from an
uncontrollable risk occurs, a high-quality ERM system helps to reduce the negative
impact on reputation because stakeholders will not attribute guilt to a frm which
has acted responsibly in its risk management. In this research, we explore the link
between corporate reputation and ERM systems together with the role played by
corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance as a mediator. Our results support the notion that ERM system quality enhances CSR performance as well as corporate reputation. The results also confrm that ERM systems have a positive impact
on corporate reputation via the mediating efect of CSR performance. Companies
should therefore use risk management policies to bolster both their CSR and their
reputation.Open Access funding provided thanks to the CRUE-CSIC agreement with Springer Nature
