The merits of queer-inclusive education in EFL classrooms
English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms comprise several groups
of students with different backgrounds according to their nationality,
race, class, ability, age, gender or sexual identity. Many EFL students in
the US do not match the patriarchal norm of being male, white, middle
class, young, heterosexual and able-bodied, resulting in an inherent
disadvantage for them when learning the target language. Implicit biases
which might arise in the classroom can negatively affect students’
motivation, thus preventing them from producing meaningful language
output and from negotiating their identities in the new social contexts
provided in the classroom
Recycled Self-Compacting Concrete: Mechanical Behavior and Durability
Comunicación escrita presentada en: Fifteenth International Conference on Recent Advances in Concrete Technology and Sustainability Issues (RACTSI) 2022, durante los días 10-15 de julio en Milán (Italia).Increasing sustainability is currently one of the main objectives of the construction sector. One of the most widespread sustainable practices to reach this goal is the recycling of industrial residues within concrete mixes. What began as a practice to produce low-quality concrete has now spread, for example, to Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC), which has a high flowability in the fresh state. Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA) is a waste that can be used to develop SCC of good mechanical performance. RCA produced from the crushing of rejected precast components for the prefabricated concrete industry is assessed in this study. It was demonstrated that the addition of 100 % coarse RCA and 50 % fine RCA contributed to the production of an SCC with adequate flowability and an optimal mechanical and durability behavior. To do so, the design of the mixture, its flowability, its strength behavior at different curing ages and its performance in freeze/thaw, moist/dry and sulfate-attack tests are discussed. The study is complemented by analyzing the interaction of RCA with different natural fine aggregates, such as siliceous or limestone sand. It is concluded that the SCC developed with large amounts of RCA was of sufficient strength and durability for general usage. This research work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Universities, MICINN, AEI, EU, ERDF and NextGenerationEU [grant numbers PID2020-113837RB-I00; 10.13039/501100011033; TED2021-129715B-I00]; the Junta de Castilla y León (Regional Government) and ERDF [grant number UIC-231]; and the University of Burgos [grant number SUCONS, Y135.GI]
On the Suitability of Prehistoric Anthropogenic Burnt Sediments (Fumiers) for Archeomagnetic Studies at El Mirador Cave (Burgos, Spain)
The analysis of the magnetic record of burnt archeological materials provides valuable information of both chronological and geophysical interest. Archeomagnetic studies carried out on independently well-dated materials allow to obtain data in order to improve and temporally extend the reference curves of the variations of the Earth’s magnetic field (EMF) at regional scale (the phenomenon called “secular variation”, SV). These curves, which mainly cover the last 2–3 millennia, can be used to carry out the archeomagnetic dating. Recent research on combustion episodes from mid-late Holocene European anthropogenic cave sequences (cf. fumiers) has revealed their suitability to obtain new directional data for temporal periods poorly covered in the reference SV curves or geomagnetic field models. El Mirador cave is an ideal site for this aim. Here we present the archeomagnetic study of 5 Holocene combustion episodes from El Mirador cave. Sampling technique is discussed and the new directional results along with a comprehensive study of their magnetic properties are assessed in connection with the previous published data. Furthermore, potential and limits of these materials to improve the archeomagnetic dating technique for the Late Prehistory are also discussed.Authors thank the support of the Spanish Ministry of Universities and European Union-NextGenerationEU (Margarita Salas Grants), European Social Fund (Operational Programme for Castilla y León) and the Junta de Castilla y León (Consejería de Educación). A Virtual Reality Serious Game for Children with Dyslexia: DixGame
Comunicación presentada en 1st International Conference on eXtended Reality (XR Salento 2022), celebrado en Lecce, Italia durante los días 6-8 de julio de 2022.Children with reading and writing difficulties, such as dyslexia, have
been directly affected by the Covid-19 situation because they could not have the
teacher’s face-to-face support. Consequently, new devices and technological applications are being used in educational contexts to improve the interest of learning. This paper presents the design of a Virtual Reality Serious Game called
DixGame. This game is a pedagogical tool specifically oriented to children between 8 and 12 years old with dyslexia. Two immersive mini-games are included
in this game: a Whack-a-mole and a Memory, which try to improve different
skills keeping the children focused on tasks. Whack-a-mole aims to work on the
attention and visual and reading agility by recognizing correct letters and words.
Memory aims to improve memory and attention ability by pairing letter-cards.
The mini-game structure permits to incorporate new levels or games and the progressive increment of difficulty allows the autonomous treatmentThis work was partially supported by the ACIS project (Reference Number INVESTUN/21/BU/0002) of the Consejería de Empleo e Industria of the Junta de Castilla y León (Spain) and the Erasmus+ RISKREAL Project (Reference Number 2020- 1-ES01-KA204-081847) of the European Commission

The right to digital disconnection and corporate social responsibility policies: new horizons for innovation in labour relations
Today, the digitization of labour relations (especially due to the significant spread of information and communication technologies) is one of the most prominent issues. Among other reasons, due to the potential negative consequences linked to the prevalence of technology and the lack of digital disconnection (in areas as diverse as work-life balance, prevention against professional risks or individual health). To combine the opposed interests (of productive organizations and workers), a flexible and innovative attitude becomes necessary, so the development of corporate social responsibility (CSR) actions will be essential. Precisely, this study offers a practical, detailed and illustrative description of how, today and in Spain, CSR policies are facing the issue (the labour right to digital disconnection). Also, this will serve to reflect about the main role that those can play to improve workers’ quality of life.
