Digital mental health and hidden support: a qualitative analysis of non-suicidal self-injury communities on TikTok
This study examines the digital representation of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI)
on TikTok, with particular attention to the emergence of online communities
and the communicative strategies users employ to share content while evading
platform moderation. As TikTok becomes increasingly influential among
adolescents and young adults, understanding how sensitive mental health
topics like NSSI circulate on the platform is critical for developing effective
digital health interventions. We conducted a qualitative content analysis of 400
posts referencing NSSI, collected using a mixed-method approach: 25.5%
using TikTok’s official API and 74.5% via the “For You” feed of a simulated
account designed to mirror organic user experience. Posts were selected
based on visual indicators (e.g., scars, tools), textual cues (e.g., hashtags,
metaphors), and thematic references to emotional distress, recovery, or
relapse. The analysis focused on user profile characteristics, linguistic strategies,
and audiovisual aesthetics. Findings reveal a loosely structured yet emotionally
resonant digital community characterized by subcultural codes, such as
euphemisms, ambiguous hashtags, and stylized imagery. Despite content
moderation policies, most accounts remained active and visible, with minimal
enforcement of warnings or restrictions. While some posts portray NSSI as a
coping strategy or seek to normalize the behavior, others subtly encourage
recovery or offer indirect support. However, explicit messaging that
discourages self-harm is notably rare. These dynamics suggest that TikTok
unintentionally enables both the concealment and dissemination of self-harmrelated content, functioning as a space for affective connection but also as a
vector for potential normalization of harmful behaviors. The study underscores
the need for targeted, ethically grounded prevention strategies that address not
only the psychological functions of these communities but also the
algorithmic infrastructures that sustain their visibility. These findings contribute
to ongoing debates about digital mental health, platform responsibility, and the
design of safer online environments. The author(s) declare that financial support was received for

DATASET of the paper “Influence of the backfill parameters in distinct element modelling of a backfill masonry arch bridge through the PFC2D software”
Dataset of an investigation on how to model a backfill masonry arch bridge using the discrete element method (DEM). The PFC2D software is used for this purpose. A certain backfill masonry arch bridge is modelled, with different types of fill, mortar and voussoir materials. A biaxial test has been programmed using ‘FISH’ code to obtain the micro-parameters used in the model so that they match the macro-parameters obtained from a real biaxial test. The arch is loaded until its collapse in three different load cases. Further discussion on the influence of the backfill parameters is presented as well as a sensitivity analysis for the arch bridge
Strength-based RSM optimization of concrete containing coarse recycled concrete aggregate and raw-crushed wind-turbine blade
Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA) and Raw-Crushed Wind-Turbine Blade (RCWTB) are waste materials obtained from decommissioned wind turbines after crushing their foundations and blades, respectively. Their use as raw materials in concrete allows their recycling. RCA increases concrete sustainability, while the fibers of Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) in RCWTB (66.8 % wt.) improve its bending performance. Nevertheless, only balanced waste combinations provide an adequate concrete behavior. Following a characterization of concrete in terms of fresh and strength performance, Response Surface Method (RSM) was conducted based on the experimental results to define the optimum waste combinations to reach a concrete strength performance adequate for engineering applications. RSM highlighted the need to limit the RCWTB content to 3 % to reach a compressive strength higher than 45 MPa, while amounts below 3 % and above 7 % would allow obtaining a flexural strength over 5.5 MPa. In both cases, the maximum content of coarse RCA should be 80 %. 70 % coarse RCA and a RCWTB amount between 6 % and 10 % would enable to develop concrete mixes with conventional strengths of 30–40 MPa under compression and 5 MPa under bending. RSM results revealed that RCWTB and their GFRP fibers properly behave in concrete with coarse RCA.This research work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Universities, MICINN, AEI, EU, ERDF and NextGenerationEU/PRTR [grant numbers PID2020-113837RB-I00; 10.13039/501100011033; TED2021-129715 B–I00; PID2023-146642OB-I00; FPU21/04364]; the Junta de Castilla y León (Regional Government) and ERDF [grant number UIC-231; BU033P23; BU066-22]; and, finally, the University of Burgos [grant number SUCONS, Y135. Gamification and player type: Relationships of the HEXAD model with the learning experience
Gamification is a widely utilised educational tool designed to promote specific behaviours. An effective gamification design must consider users’ experiences and perceptions to enhance engagement and participation. This research is part of a broader study that develops gamified activities to teach primary school pupils about sustainable mobility.
The study investigates the relationship between player profiles, as defined by the Hexad scale, and the use of the ClassCraft platform for learning sustainable mobility concepts. The Hexad scale serves as an instrument to analyse the various motivations exhibited by each student when interacting with the gamified application. Specifically, we examine the connection between player profiles, learning levels, the components of the ClassCraft platform, and the impact of gender on this relationship.
An experiment was conducted with 75 fifth-grade primary school students (aged 10–12) who used the ClassCraft platform. Several linear regression models correlated various variables with the player profiles included in the Hexad scale.
The results indicate a relationship between player profiles and the variables considered: final score on the platform, number of activities completed, number of connections made, player level achieved, student satisfaction level, and learning levels. Additionally, the high percentage of socialiser profiles found among the students is perfectly in line with some of the intrinsic characteristics of the ClassCraft platform. This research has been possible thanks to the Margarita Salas Grant fnanced with Next Generation EU funds from the European Union through the "Plan de Recuperación Transformación y Resiliencia" (Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan)

Sally Rooney's Novels: The Aesthetics of the Contemporary Irish Bildungsroman
Sally Rooney has of late attracted attention, among other things, for her straightforward depictions of youth in present-day Ireland. Her works have been said to represent the voice of the younger generation, the millennials, not only because of the topics she tackles, but also because of her narrative style. The introspective nature of her novels is reflected through email exchanges between her characters, structural alterations, uneven time lapses, ungrammaticality, and the use of parataxis. These characteristics, ever-present in her narrative, replace some features of the traditional Bildungsroman, updating its creative form. This essay aims to analyse Rooney's aesthetics as a reflection of the socio-economic context within which her novels are set, as well as their engagement with the problematic articulation of identity formation in an economic climate of recession. This chapter is focused on her particular recreation of the Bildung genre and its necessary accommodation to the neoliberal context of Ireland. It does so by highlighting the salient features of her aesthetics, examining topic, form, and style. Her three novels to date, Conversations with Friends (2017), Normal People (2018), and Beautiful World, Where Are You (2021), all examples of the contemporary Irish Bildungsroman, are discussed, looking at such features as alterations in form and structure, the focus on the individual, the choice of paired protagonists, and the implications of digital media. Finally, light is cast on Rooney's narrative style, the way it evokes the contradictions and challenges of life in contemporary Ireland, and the underlying critique of her novels
