Mental Health Literacy: Systematic Literature Review

    No full text
The concept of mental health literacy (MHL) refers to knowledge and beliefs about mental disorders. Improving MHL can have a significant impact on individuals and society at large. The aim of the study wasto review the scientific production related to MHL,analyze itscharacteristics, and identify the strengths and weaknesses of the proposed interventions. A systematic review of the literature wascarried out by searches in the databases Web of Science (WOS)and Scopus. One hundred and six articles have been selected and analyzed. The results are organized into 4 categories: Conceptualization of MHL and how to materialize it, educational programs, MHL assessment instruments, andstudies on MHL levels. The concept of MHL is disseminated around the world despite the lack of conceptual consensus. It is materialized mainly through educational interventions with diverse methodologies. Although there are limitations in measuring MHL, in general, the levels are low in different population groups and on specific mental health problems. In short, specific actions that require further development of applicable programsfor the information and prevention of mental health problems were found as a priority. The spread of the term MHL is necessary for the prevention and information of mental health problems

    No full text

The Use of Gothic Fiction as a Second Language Teaching-Learning Motivational Input for Adolescents

    No full text
It is indisputable that success in the acquisition of a second language is closely dovetailed with motivation. A direct rapport between motivation and language achievement can be traced, whereby the higher the motivation, the smoother the advances towards an effective acquisition of the target language. This process has been thoroughly explored of late in the field of Second Language Learning (SLL). Experts have rightly pinpointed that motivation dynamics greatly differ when we attend to groups of learners that tend to have a meagre and oscillating engagement with the subject matter, as it is mostly the case with adolescents. Thus, what would be at stake in this paper is the discussion of how to pair teenagers’ preferences with pertinent teaching-learning tools in the EFL (English as a Foreign Language) context. Given that the greatest challenge is to engage students’ attention and to present contents and topics that are relevant to them, it is our contention that specific literary resources as those within the Gothic narrative genre can facilitate motivation in learner-centred experience in adolescence since they resonate with key anxieties of this period. We thus side with the growing current in SLL that, over the decades, has promoted literature and extensive reading as valuable contributions to language acquisition. Our specific proposal is to incorporate the reading of Gothic fiction into the EFL secondary curriculum as a motivational spur. If teachers introduce narratives in English that have particularly appealing subject matters for our students, the teaching-learning strategies would be greatly improved

    No full text
Healthcare professionals were especially vulnerable to pandemic, both to become infected and to develop a psychological problem. The aim of this systematic review is to analyze the effectiveness of psychological interventions for healthcare professionals in reducing the experienced psychological impact. From the 405 identified studies, 10 were included in this review. Four databases were searched and the risk of bias of included studies was assessed. The studies considered were randomized controlled trials. The screening and selection process was conducted by two independent reviewers. All studies presented results related with depression, anxiety, and stress during pandemic. Six were delivered using new technologies. The most effective were two psychological interventions with frequent contact and feedback provided by a mental health professional. The psychological interventions compared with non-intervention groups presented more significant results than those compared with another intervention. The highlights of this systematic review were the urgency of designing effectiveness psychological interventions for healthcare professionals to reduce the emotional burden associate with this job. These interventions should be maintained over the time, supported by a professional and provided from the workplace. These proposals presented promising results but were more psychological resources than psychological interventions

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome after Distal Radius Fractures: the role of the early rehabilitation program in prevention

    No full text
Murcia, 5-6 de julio de 2023Background: Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is one of the most debilitating chronic pain disorders, disproportionate in time or degree, often following minor trauma (Phillips et al., 2021). The most common trigger in prevalent cases of CRPS-Type1 is Distal Radius Fracture (DRF) (Sane et al., 2021). Aim: Within the different types of procedures described in the literature in people with DRF for the prevention of CRPS, a systematic review was performed to study which type of rehabilitation program is most effective. Methods: Studies were searching on PubMed, Bon, Web of Science, Scopus and ScienceDirect and inclusion criteria were articles written in English, Portuguese and Spanish languages and published between 2013 to the present. This study was designed according to PRISMA guidelines. To reduce the risk of possible bias, the CASP Checklist was used. The full text of each article selected according to the selection criteria was screened from potentially eligible articles to verify that the studies met all criteria, resulting in 2 studies for further analysis Results: In the first study (Boersma.indd, 2018), a home exercise program was applied immediately after cast removal in patients with DRF who received conservative treatment. Patients were strictly instructed to perform upper limb exercises at home daily for a period of 6 weeks and were allowed to resume normal activities by gradually increasing the amount of weight and strength. In the second study, Boersma. et al, 2020 used a similar protocol for a longer time. In both studies, no patient was diagnosed with CRPS-1 when evaluated by the Budapest criteria, resulting in an incidence of 0%. Conclusion: With these results, it is possible to conclude that adequately informing patients, managing patient expectations and preventing disuse with a rapid and active home exercise program seems to decrease the incidence of CRPS-1 in DRF

Digitalisation and digital transformation in the social economy: the cases of Anecoop and Consum

    No full text
Artículo de estudio de casoPurpose: Digital technologies are changing the business landscape and the way companies are run. This research examines the implementation of digitalisation and digital transformation (DT) and explores the associated advantages and disadvantages. Design/methodology/approach: Case study methodology was employed to help develop an understanding of how key actors implement DT. Semi-structured qualitative interviews were performed with managers of two social economy enterprises in the agri-food sector supply chain. Findings: The specific nature of the supply chain of companies in this sector can hinder the implementation of certain digital technologies. This scenario results in two different approaches to digital technologies: one focused on digitalisation, and another focused on DT. Companies in this sector that seek successful implementation of DT should choose and combine appropriate digital technologies that fit with their DT strategy. They should also structure their organisation to ensure the leadership of senior management to engage all staff. Originality/value: This study is valuable because of its focus on cooperatives in its analysis of DT. There is scant research on this business model, so the present study helps fill this gap in the literature

    No full text
The aim of this paper is to examine the value of employee interviews, in the context of a corporate investigation, in subsequent criminal proceedings. It thus offers an analytical commentary on the role of internal investigations in the phenomenon of privatisation of criminal proceedings, addressing the provisions on whistleblowing channels and intra-corporate investigations offered by Directive 2019/1937 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October 2019 on the protection of persons who report breaches of Union law, in order to answer the following question: can the statements made by an employee in an internal interrogation constitute evidence in criminal proceedings against the same employee? If so, is the right against self-incrimination violated when statements made in intra-corporate investigations are used in criminal proceedings?; what limits should govern the criminal evidentiary value of interviews with employees in internal investigations?

The impact of corruption on investment and financing in the European Union: new insights

    Get PDF
Corruption is a phenomenon that is not just restricted to less developed nations, but also touches developed countries like those in the European Union, often seen as one of the least corrupt economic areas in the world. Corruption practices and perceptions can seriously hinder economic growth and innovation, This can be due to lower access to corporate funding, greater cost of capital, its effects on competition, misallocation of resources, and distortions in the composition of public spending and the effectiveness of government policies. This paper first provides a short discussion and an overview of some academic literature for the link between corruption, financing decisions and economic growth. It then summarizes the findings of the five papers in this special issue on the topic of Corruption in a European context, discusses some insights from their results and finally points out at some avenues for future research in related topics
