On some measures of non-compactness associated to Banach operator ideals
We study two variants of measures of non-compactness of operators associated to a Banach operator ideal in the sense of Pietsch. These measures are motivated by the notions of surjective-ideal-compactness and injective-ideal-compactness, defined respectively by Carl and Stephani and by Stephani. Interpolation results on these measures in the cases of Banach couples generated by a single Banach space are given. As an application, we obtain interpolation theorems on p-compact operators and quasi p-nuclear operators. The first named author was supported by the Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad and FEDER under project MTM2017-84058-P. Teleworking in Manufacturing: Dealing with the Post-Pandemic COVID-19 Challenge
The quantity of teleworkers had already been rising in various work fields even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it was not until the pandemic that it spread to other sectors such as the industrial sector. There are still few studies looking at telework’s impact on this important sector. This article is intended to discuss: (1) the extent of teleworking in manufacturing, (2) its adjustment to the industrial sector (challenges and benefits), and (3) its prospects for the future. To this end, 31 in-depth interviews have been conducted with four Plant Managers and seven Human Resource Directors of 11 industrial companies in Burgos (Spain) and surroundings, as well as 20 of their workers. Pre-pandemic teleworking was only active in one of the enterprises and now there are workers that work remotely in 9 out of 11. All interviewees agreed that teleworking will gradually expand. The study shows concerns and challenges when it comes to communication, trust, control, and productivity. It highlights the importance of establishing clear policies on teleworking and how to deal with remuneration, expense reimbursements, and equity between teleworkers and on-site workers. Overall, industrial-sector teleworking has brought positive results in terms of productivity and job satisfaction levels, but it has also resulted in new demands on aspects such as ergonomics, negative habits (food and physical inactivity), communication, and work–life balance. This research was funded by Junta de Castilla y León through the call “Subsidies aimed at carrying out research projects in occupational risk prevention by the public universities of Castilla y León (2022)”, of the Order of 30 December 2021, by the Ministry of Employment and Industry within the project “Tele risks: Teleworking in the industrial sector, opportunities and threats in Occupational Risk Prevention. Depopulation, territory and community. Experiences of social participation in the province of Burgos
This paper explores the processes of collective dynamization that are recently emerging in rural territories of the so-called "Empty Spain". In response to the perspectives that assume the weakening of social capital produced by population decline, the study analyzes the emergence of associations which are being able to mobilize based on great local rooting and community. This is an exploratory study whose theoretical framework derive from issues related to the notion of participation and social innovation, and community. The analitical approach is qualitative, and it is carried out on the case of five experiences placed in the Southeast of the province of Burgos. The results demonstrate the weight of rootedness on mobilizing action. Despite the complexity of depopulation, the paper higlights that these entities could be considered stimulating tools for community building at territorial level
25 Years Working with Green Steel Slag Concrete
Comunicación oral presentada en: Building for the Future: Durable, Sustainable, Resilient (fib symposium) 2023, celebrado en Estambul (Turquía) durante los días 5-7 de junio.Industrial production of iron and steel within Spain has historically
been situated in the north area of Spain. Although a major economic activity for
the region, the industry also generates large volumes of waste that have hitherto
been dumped in unsightly landfill sites. Over 25 years ago, a group of engineers
and researchers from the same area set themselves the challenge of regenerating this waste. In this study, the advances developed in the technology of green
slag concrete are reviewed, focusing on the expertise that the research group has
accumulated over the past 25 years. Electric arc furnace slag is a stony material
that is now often used as aggregate in hydraulic and bituminous mixes. Its use
in hydraulic cement-based materials and the important properties of slag aggregates for mix workability are analyzed. Likewise, the mechanical behavior and
the durability of slag concrete specimens is presented, paying special attention
to expansive compounds and to the performance of electric arc furnace concrete
in marine environments. In addition, real scale elements manufactured with slag
concrete and their behavior are analyzed, as well as the advantages of applying
current standards to their design. Finally, new lines of research are discussed for
the use of electric arc furnace slag in cement-based materials. This research work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Universities, MICINN, AEI, EU, ERDF and NextGenerationEU [grant numbers PID2020-113837RB-I00; 10.13039/501100011033; TED2021-129715B-I00]; the Junta de Castilla y León (Regional Government) and ERDF [grant number UIC-231]; and the University of Burgos [grant number SUCONS, Y135.GI]
