Catalyst‐ and Substrate‐Controlled Regiodivergent Synthesis of Carbazoles through Gold‐Catalyzed Cyclizations of Indole‐Functionalized Alkynols

    Get PDF
A wide variety of regioselectively substituted carbazole derivatives can be synthesized by the gold-catalyzed cyclization of alkynols bearing an indol-3-yl and an additional group at the homopropargylic positions. The regioselectivity of the process can be controlled by both the oxidation state of the gold catalyst and the electronic nature of the substituents of the alkynol moiety. The 1,2-alkyl migration in the spiroindoleninium intermediate, generated after indole attack to the activated alkyne, is favored with gold(I) complexes and for electron-rich aromatic substituents at the homopropargylic position, whereas the 1,2-alkenyl shift is preferred when using gold(III) salts and for alkyl or non-electron-rich aromatic groups. We gratefully acknowledge Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación PID2020-115789GB−C21/AEI/10.13039/501100011033, and Junta de Castilla y León and FEDER (BU049P20) for financial support. The influence of food values on satisfaction and loyalty: Evidence obtained across restaurant types

    Get PDF
To increase our understanding of food choices, their evaluation and their effects on key non-financial variables, we examine potential differences between two types of food values (distinguishing those that offer added value from those limited to providing only an offer of basic value) between two types of restaurants regarding their impact on satisfaction with the food, and loyalty to the food and the restaurant. To do so, we collected a database of 516 customers of restaurants in Spain and analysed it using descriptive statistics and structural equation analysis. The results evidenced how offering food reflecting both differential added value and basic value increases food satisfaction, and, in turn, customer loyalty to the food and the restaurant. As a novelty in the literature, our findings revealed that basic value offer increases customers’ food satisfaction of both restaurant types but offering food that reflects differential added value offer does not influence customers satisfaction of fast-food restaurants but increases food satisfaction in traditional restaurants. The discussion addresses the key implications of these findings for restaurants strategic positioning

New fluorescent reporters capable of Ultra-sensitively detecting trinitrotoluene on surfaces: A proof-of-concept for finding hidden nitroaromatics in the workroom

    No full text
We describe the proof of concept of a portable testing setup for the detection of trinitrotoluene (TNT), a common component in hidden explosive devices. The system allows for field-testing and generation of real-time results to test for TNT traces in surfaces by simply using a filter paper and a fluorescent reporter. In this way, the controlled trapping and detection of the analyte by a chemical sensor gives reliable results at extremely low concentrations of TNT on surfaces under real life conditions suitable for daily use in ordinary sampling for example at airlines luggage storage or sport locker rooms. The reported fluorescent methodology is very sensitive and selective, allowing for the trapping and detection of TNT by a fluorescent reporter to give reliable results at very low concentrations. As a complement, we report the preparation of a modified Sylgard film that is useful under real conditions for qualitative fluorescent detection of hidden traces of TNT on surfaces or fingers by a swab method. The combination of quantitative and qualitative detection of TNT traces on surfaces constitutes a comprehensive new method for the detection of hidden nitroaromatic explosives in the workplace. This research was funded by the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme (Grant SPS G5536) and the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (Grants PID2019-111215RB-I00 and PDC2022-133955-I00). A new work by Juan de Anchieta in Navarra. The carving of Santa Catalina de Azcona

    Get PDF
Having revealed the twenty obscure years of Juan de Anchieta’s life as an apprentice and officer in Castile in the magnificent book by Vasallo Toranzo, the catalogue of his mature work has only been expanded in this century with a few specific attributions, mainly in Aragon and the Basque Country. His production in Navarre, his land of adoption, which seemed to have been completed, is now enriched with this proposal for a reasoned attribution of a carving of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the former patron saint of the rural church of Ciriza, now in the parish of Azcona

The Arielist Generation within Peruvian Modernism

An issue of essential relevance for Latin America has been the questioning of its cultural identity.

    No full text
The main objective of the present study consists of investigating, from a literary and social point of view the relationship between the norms of the traditional femininity ideology (TFI) and the internalized misogyny (Davis et al., 2018) in Licia Canton’s short stories, an Italian-Canadian writer. This research centres around a new reframing of the five factors conceptualized as traditional norms of femininity such as stereotypic image and activities, dependence and deference, purity, caretaking, and emotionality (Levant et al., 2007, cited in Davis et al., 2018). These are expressed and exemplified by passive acceptance of traditional gender roles and self-objectification in her feminine characters. At the same time, female protagonists of the short stories selected and analysed could internalize dominant expectations regarding traditional femininity. What is stated could cause stress, strain, conflict, and marginalization in some cases. For that reason, it is visible the fight for equality and a new reframing of these traditional notions and norms of femininity which result in a hegemonic femininity.
