Hydrogen uptake and diffusion kinetics in a quenched and tempered low carbon steel: experimental and numerical study

    Get PDF
To better understand hydrogen uptake kinetics, electrochemical permeation tests have been performed in a quenched and tempered low-alloy steel. Hydrogen uptake and transport has been studied with three different surface roughness, in four different solutions (1 M H2SO4, 1 M H2SO4+As2O3, 0.1 M NaOH and 3.5% NaCl) and two different hydrogen charging current densities (1 and 5 mA/cm2). A strong effect of the charging solution, current density and surface roughness has been demonstrated. In 1 M H2SO4 + As2O3 solution and 5 mA/cm2, hydrogen recombination on the surface of the samples is strongly reduced and interstitial diffusion prevails due to the trap saturation ( ). However, in 1 M H2SO4, 0.1 M NaOH and 3.5% NaCl, hydrogen transport is dominated by trapping and detrapping processes ( ). Permeation transients are numerically reproduced through Finite Element simulations and compared to the experimental results. The relationship between hydrogen diffusion kinetics at the microstructural level and surface effects is clearly established by a mapping strategy obtained from the wide range of experimental results, combined with a numerical approach. The authors would like to thank the Spanish Government for the financial support received to perform the research projects RTI2018-096070-B-C33 and PID2021-124768OB-C21. Isolation and Quantification of Mandelonitrile from Arabidopsis thaliana Using Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry

    Get PDF
ProtocoloMandelonitrile is a nitrogen-containing compound, considered an essential secondary metabolite. Chemically, it is a cyanohydrin derivative of benzaldehyde, with relevant functions in different physiological processes including defense against phytophagous arthropods. So far, procedures for detecting mandelonitrile have been effectively applied in cyanogenic plant species such as Prunus spp. Nevertheless, its presence in Arabidopsis thaliana, considered a non-cyanogenic species, has never been determined. Here, we report the development of an accurate protocol for mandelonitrile quantification in A. thaliana within the context of A. thaliana–spider mite interaction. First, mandelonitrile was isolated from Arabidopsis rosettes using methanol; then, it was derivatized by silylation to enhance detection and, finally, it was quantified using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. The selectivity and sensitivity of this method make it possible to detect low levels of mandelonitrile (LOD 3 ppm) in a plant species considered non-cyanogenic that, therefore, will have little to no cyanogenic compounds, using a small quantity of starting material (≥ 100 mg). This work was supported by funds of “La Caixa” Foundation (LCF/PR18/51130007) and Ministerio de Universidades-European Union in the frame of NextGenerationEU RD 289/2021 (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid)

Propuesta de mejora de la productividad de la troqueladora plana automática ASAHI AP 2100

    No full text
In this study, the productivity of the Asahi AP 2100 automatic flat die cutter will be examined in relation to the machines in its process line, the Göpfert printer and complementary machines. The objective is to achieve a productivity rate of 3000 m2/hour, whereas the current productivity data stands around 2300/2400 m2/hour. Productivity improvement will be pursued through various analyses, starting with a productivity analysis, followed by an examination of downtime and unproductive times, as they significantly affect productivity. By reducing these downtime and unproductive times, a significant increase in productivity is expected

Immersive Virtual Reality in Cultural Heritage Dissemination: A Comprehensive Application for Novice Users

    No full text
Comunicación presentada en International Conference on eXtended Reality (XR Salento 2023), celebrado en Lecce, Italia durante los días 6-9 de septiembre de 2023.This paper discusses the increasing relevance of immersive Virtual Reality (iVR) technology in society and its emerging applications, particularly in Cultural Heritage (CH) dissemination. However, the diversification of iVR experiences has led to a need for an application that summarizes the most common types of experiences to familiarize novice users with iVR. To address this need, an iVR application has been developed that presents the four most common types of iVR experiences: Passive, Explorative, Explorative Interaction, and Interactive. The experience includes different reconstructed CH environments and objects showcasing the possibilities for the dissemination of CH using this technology. The application is divided into four levels, and its key design factors are as follows: 1) one type of iVR experience for each level, 2) simple interactions that become more complex as the user progresses, 3) short duration and time-limited progression between levels, 4) development for standalone iVR devices, and 5) different types of reconstructed heritage showcased at each level. The experience was tested in exhibitions and achieved high performance on standalone iVR devices. Usability results are expected to be achieved in the future
