Dataset of the paper “Variable neighborhood search approach to face-shield delivery during pandemic periods”. International Transactions in Operational Research, 32(2), 719-744
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic and its rapid spread shook health authorities worldwide at the regional and national levels. Healthcare systems had difficulty acquiring important supplies, such as face shields, which at that time were essential for healthcare staff. The need for this material increased with the spread of the pandemic. In most areas, warehouses did not have a sufficient stock of this product. This situation has occurred in the cities and provinces of Burgos (Spain). Volunteers (citizens and small companies) owning three-dimensional printers offered themselves to manufacture face shields. These volunteers are called “makers.” Similarly, different organizations (mainly Civil Protection) took charge of transport activities (delivery of material to the makers, collection of face shields, and delivery of the latter to hospitals and other entities). In this study, we were tasked with developing a system for planning and rationalizing these activities. The problems that were solved included a vehicle routing problem with different characteristics compared with other models in the literature. A previous work described this problem, and the heuristic method used for the planning. However, it is necessary to develop tools that are as efficient as possible for similar situations. In this study, we propose a mathematical formulation of the problem and a method based on the metaheuristic strategies variable neighborhood search and greedy randomize adaptative search procedure on a multistart framework. Usability of a Virtual Learning Environment in Down Syndrome Adult Learning
The use of virtual learning environments (VLEs) is becoming increasingly common in teaching. Nevertheless, analysis of how effective these prove to be for the learning of persons with disabilities remains scarce. In this study, we work with a sample of 34 people aged between 16 and 44 (14 women and 20 men) who have Down Syndrome. The aims of the study were to (1) explore whether there were any significant differences before and after teaching when using a VLE; (2) determine whether the frequency of use and time spent on the VLE impacted learning outcomes; (3) examine clusters vis à vis learning behaviour in the VLE; and (4) gauge perceived user satisfaction with the use of the VLE. Significant differences in learning outcomes before and after teaching using a VLE were found. The frequency and time spent using the VLE were seen to have no impact on learning outcomes. Three clusters were identified in terms of VLE behaviour, and perceived user satisfaction with the VLE was high. There is a need to increase the number of studies addressing the impact of VLEs on learning in persons with different disabilities.This research was funded by the European Commission, grant number 2018-1-ES01-KA201-050639
An update on the underlying risk factors of eating disorders onset during adolescence: a systematic review
Introduction: Eating disorders (EDs) are serious psychological problems that
affect not only the individual, but also their entire environment. The prevalence
rates of EDs are higher among the adolescent population. A better understanding
of ED risk factors is essential to design effective prevention and intervention
programs that focus beyond the areas of weight and appearance.
Methods: The main objective of this systematic review was to identify the risk
factors of EDs and provide a comprehensive approach, analyzing the interplay
between individuals, their inner circle, and the society characteristics. The Web of
Science, Scopus, CENTRAL and PsycInfo databases were searched.
Results: The initial search produced 8,178 references. After removing duplicates
and performing the selection process by three independent reviewers, 42 articles
were included in the systematic review according to the pre-specified inclusion
criteria. The results suggest the relevance of society and the inner circle on the
development of EDs.
Discussion: The internalization of the thin ideal, promoted by the current society,
and living in an unsupportive, unaffectionate, non-cohesive environment were
associated with the onset of EDs symptomatology. Other associated variables
with this ED indicator were poor-quality relationships and feeling judged about
appearance. These aspects seem to be essential for the development of individual
characteristics like self-esteem or adaptative coping during adolescence. This
systematic review has shown the complex etiology of EDs and the relevance of
the interplay between the different areas involved. Furthermore, this information
could be relevant to improve the design of innovative and more effective
prevention and intervention programs.

en el paraje conocido como Monte de Estépar, dentro del Término Municipal de Estépar

se planteó,
en el año 2012, acometer un proyecto dirigido a localizar y, llegado el caso, excavar las
mismas con el propósito de exhumar, recuperar e identificar los restos que allí se hubieran podido conservar. No en vano, fueron
muchos los afectados que, a lo largo de los años previos, se dirigieron a este colectivo
planteando interrogantes sobre el momento
de apertura de estas fosas, unos por sospecha directa de contener los restos de sus
allegados, otros precisamente por ignorar si
éstos acabaron o no allí. Así pues, de conformidad con la CRMH de Burgos y para garantizar el cumplimiento de la normativa vigente

Lab-on-a-chip for the easy and visual detection of SARS-CoV-2 in saliva based on sensory polymers
The initial stages of the pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 showed that early detection of the virus in a simple way is the best tool until the development of vaccines. Many different tests are invasive or need the patient to cough up or even drag a sample of mucus from the throat area. Besides, the manufacturing time has proven insufficient in pandemic conditions since they were out of stock in many countries. Here we show a new method of manufacturing virus sensors and a proof of concept with SARS-CoV-2. We found that a fluorogenic peptide substrate of the main protease of the virus (Mpro) can be covalently immobilized in a polymer, with which a cellulose-based material can be coated. These sensory labels fluoresce with a single saliva sample of a positive COVID-19 patient. The results matched with that of the antigen tests in 22 of 26 studied cases (85% success rate).We gratefully acknowledge the financial support provided by all funders.
