Implementation of the SDGs by social economy enterprises in the agrifood sector
Artículo de estudio de casoPurpose:
Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a global initiative that is becoming increasingly important in the industrial and service sectors. This paper analyses how the SDGs are being implemented in the agrifood supply chain by social economy enterprises.
Design/methodology/approach:
Case study methodology was used to understand how companies implement the SDGs. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with managers from two cooperatives in the agrifood sector.
Findings:
There are no differences in the way that the SDGs are implemented by social economy enterprises involved in the food sector supply chain. Therefore, the SDG approach is an alternative that can be applied by food sector supply chain companies to achieve the sustainability favoured by the cooperative model.
Originality/value:
The value of the present study lies in its analysis of the sustainability of the agrifood supply chain from an SDG-based approach that is more comprehensive than other commonly cited approaches in the academic literature
The poem «Idilio muerto» to «Trilce VI»: the vallejian language formation process
In each reading it gives us the opportunity to
continue enjoying a personal language loaded with an unprecedented expressive forcé. This article aims to analyze the process that, like a chrysalis, took place in Vallejo. Slowly moving
away from modernist models, he found his own poetic essence. To describe the process, the
poem «Dead Idil» from Los heraldos negros has been taken and a comparison has been made
with «Trilce VI» from the Trilce collection of poems. The topic of the beloved woman is the
place from where the analogy is nailed. Thanks to this análisis around the beloved woman
one can observe the poetic development of the great Peruvian poet. Likewise, some issues
related to Trilce’s Vallejo language and its beautiful complexity are recalled, which continue
to amaze critics one hundred years after its publication.Juan Cid Hidalgo; Universidad de Concepción
Ultraviolet Erythemal Irradiance (UVER) under Different Sky Conditions in Burgos, Spain: Multilinear Regression and Artificial Neural Network Models
Different strategies for modeling Global Horizontal UltraViolet Erythemal irradiance (GHUVE) based on meteorological parameters measured in Burgos (Spain) have been developed. The experimental campaign ran from September 2020 to June 2022. The selection of relevant variables for modeling was based on Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Multilinear Regression Model (MLR) and artificial neural network (ANN) techniques were employed to model GHUVE under different sky conditions (all skies, overcast, intermediate, and clear skies), classified according to the CIE standard on a 10 min basis. ANN models of GHUVE outperform those based on MLR according to the traditional statistical indices used in this study (R2, MBE, and nRMSE). Moreover, the work proposes a simple all-sky ANN model of GHUVE based on usually recorded variables at ground meteorological stations
Related Factors with Depression and Anxiety in Mastectomized Women Breast Cancer Survivors
Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer diagnosis with the highest mortality rate
worldwide. The aim of this study was to identify factors related to depression and anxiety in
mastectomized women BC survivors. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of
198 women diagnosed with BC aged 30–80 years in Mexico. Depression and anxiety were assessed
using the 14-item Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). The results showed that 94.44%
and 69.18% of the women scored more than eight points on HADS in the anxiety and depression
subscales, respectively; 70.20% and 10.60% were identified as pathological. The following variables
were analyzed: age, time elapsed since the start of treatment, received treatment at the time of the
evaluation, type of surgery, family history, marital status and employment status. Time elapsed since
surgery, having a partner, and employment showed significant results as factors associated to levels
of depression and anxiety in these patients. In conclusion, it has been shown that BCSs under 50 years
of age receiving some kind of treatment, without family history, without a partner, with a job, with
more than secondary education and with more than 5 years since diagnosis could have higher rates
of clinical depression. On the other hand, BCSs older than 50 years receiving some kind of treatment,
without family history, without a partner, with a job, with more than secondary education and with
more than 5 years since diagnosis, could have higher rates of clinical anxiety. In conclusion, the
variables studied provide valuable information for the implementation of psychotherapy plans in
healthcare systems to reduce the risk of depression and/or anxiety in women with BC who have
undergone mastectomy
Graphene Formation through Spontaneous Exfoliation of Graphite by Chlorosulfonic Acid: A DFT Study
Using exfoliating agents is one of the most promising ways for large-scale production of
liquid dispersed graphenic materials from graphite. Therefore, it is crucial to know the reason why
some molecules have a larger exfoliating power than others. The highest reported experimental yield
for the liquid phase single-surfactant spontaneous exfoliation of graphite, i.e., without sonication,
has been obtained using chlorosulfonic acid. The ability of this acid to disperse graphite is studied
within the framework of Density Functional Theory (DFT). Equilibrium configurations, electron
transfers, binding energies, and densities of states are presented for two acid concentrations and for
two situations: adsorption (on monolayer and bilayer graphene) and intercalation (in between simple
hexagonal and Bernal-stacked bilayer graphene). Experimental exfoliation power and dispersion
stability are explained in terms of charge transfer—the largest found among several studied exfoliating
and surfactant agents—facilitated by the good geometrical matching of chlorosulfonic acid molecules
to constituent carbon rings of graphene. This matching is in the origin of the tendency toward
adsorption of chlorosulfonic acid molecules on graphene monolayers when they separate, originating
the charging of the monolayers that precludes their reaggregation. This work was supported by the Spanish MICINN and the European Regional Development Fund (grant MAT2014-54378-R) as well as Junta de Castilla y León (grant VA050U14)
Staging Parkinson's disease according to the MNCD classification correlates with caregiver burden
Background and objective: Recently, we demonstrated that staging Parkinson's disease (PD) with a novel simple classification called MNCD, based on four axes (motor, non-motor, cognition, and dependency) and five stages, correlated with disease severity and patients’ quality of life. Here, we analyzed the correlation of MNCD staging with PD caregiver's status.
Patients and methods: Data from the baseline visit of PD patients and their principal caregiver recruited from 35 centers in Spain from the COPPADIS cohort from January 2016 to November 2017 were used to apply the MNCD total score (from 0 to 12) and MNCD stages (from 1 to 5) in this cross-sectional analysis. Caregivers completed the Zarit Caregiver Burden Inventory (ZCBI), Caregiver Strain Index (CSI), Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), PQ-10, and EUROHIS-QOL 8-item index (EUROHIS-QOL8).
Results: Two hundred and twenty-four PD patients (63 ± 9.6 years old; 61.2% males) and their caregivers (58.5 ± 12.1 years old; 67.9% females) were included. The frequency of MNCD stages was 1, 7.6%; 2, 58.9%; 3, 31.3%; and 4–5, 2.2%. A more advanced MNCD stage was associated with a higher score on the ZCBI (p < .0001) and CSI (p < .0001), and a lower score on the PQ-10 (p = .001), but no significant differences were observed in the BDI-II (p = .310) and EUROHIS-QOL8 (p = .133). Moderate correlations were observed between the MNCD total score and the ZCBI (r = .496; p < .0001), CSI (r = .433; p < .0001), and BDI-II (r = .306; p < .0001) in caregivers.
Conclusion: Staging PD according to the MNCD classification is correlated with caregivers’ strain and burden
In this article we study different notions of happiness that can be deduced from the attitudes that Batman and Joker expose in The Killing Joke. Published in 1988, this graphic novel was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Brian Bolland, both of them being famous British artists. Although these two comic book characters’ behaviours oppose to a large extent the possibility of being happy, we as readers can extract valuable lessons from their respective performances and build a space for our own happiness through a compre-hensive reading of their misadventures. In this sense, we adopt a classic perspective based on Horace’s Ars Poetica and Stoicism in order to read the aforementioned misadventures with full awareness. Therefore, we think both the Horatian and the Stoic guidelines gene-rate narrative resources and conceptions that, respectively, can be extrapolated to various artistic genres (from theatre and poetry to cinema and comics). Finally, we propose the compound felicreatividad to explain how creativity is one of the major keys that brings human beings closer to the doors of happiness, which we understand to be an expression free of its two extremes: euphoria and conformism
The presence of Muslim groups is one of the distinctive features of late medieval Iberian societies within European Christendom as a whole. These Muslims, known as Mudejars in the literature, while distinguished by their religion, participated actively in the Castilian economy. One of the sectors in which their presence was most pronounced was the construction industry. This paper analyses the participation of Mudejars in the construction sector in the Crown of Castile during the 15th century. The research focuses on the Muslim communities in the cities of Ávila, Valladolid and Burgos. These three population centres were among the most important in the Crown of Castile and they had Islamic population groups with different characteristics. The research focuses on the period from 1412 to 1502. The first of these dates saw the promulgation of the Ordinance of Valladolid, which to a large extent set the tone for Castilian legislation on religious minorities for the rest of the century. Finally, the practice of Islam was banned in Castile in 1502, and most Mudejars were baptised, bringing about a major change in their lives
