Towards Automatic Tutoring of Custom Student-Stated Math Word Problems

    No full text
Comunicación presentada en: 24th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, AIED 2023, Tokyo, Japan, July 3–7, 2023.Math Word Problem (MWP) solving for teaching math with Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITSs) faces a major limitation: ITSs only supervise pre-registered problems, requiring substantial manual effort to add new ones. ITSs cannot assist with student-generated problems. To address this, we propose an automated approach to translate MWPs to an ITS’s internal representation using pre-trained language models to convert MWP to Python code, which can then be imported easily. Experimental evaluation using various code models demonstrates our approach’s accuracy and potential for improvement. This research has received support from project TED2021- 129485B-[C42/C43], funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (Strategic Projects Focused on the Green and Digital Transition); project PGC2018-096463-BI00, funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and “ERDF A way of making Europe”; grant CIAPOS/2022/163, project AICO/2021/019 and Grupos de Investigaci´on Emergentes, funded by Generalitat Valenciana; Margarita Salas 2022–2024 Grant, awarded by University of Valencia [MS21-29], and by University of Burgos funded through NextGenerationEU funds; and project “AGENCY”, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council [EP/W032481/1], United Kingdom

Genomic Characterization of Campylobacter jejuni Associated with Perimyocarditis: A Family Case Report

    No full text
Campylobacter spp. is the leading cause of foodborne gastrointestinal infections in humans worldwide. This study reports the first case of four family members who had contact with the same source of Campylobacter jejuni contamination with different results. Only the little siblings were infected by the same C. jejuni strain, but with different symptoms. Whereas the daughter was slightly affected with mild enteritis, the son suffered a longer campylobacteriosis followed with a perimyocarditis. This is the first case of the youngest patient affected by C. jejuni-related perimyocarditis published to date. The genomes of both strains were characterized by whole-genome sequencing and compared with the C. jejuni NCTC 11168 genome to gain insights into the molecular features that may be associated with perimyocarditis. Various comparison tools were used for the comparative genomics analysis, including the identification of virulence and antimicrobial resistance genes, phase variable (PV) genes, and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) identification. Comparisons of the strains identified 16 SNPs between them, which constituted small but significant changes mainly affecting the ON/OFF state of PV genes after passing through both hosts. These results suggest that PV occurs during human colonization, which modulates bacteria virulence through human host adaptation, which ultimately is related to complications after a campylobacteriosis episode depending on the host status. The findings highlight the importance of the relation between host and pathogen in severe complications of Campylobacter infections.Campylobacter spp. is the leading cause of foodborne gastrointestinal infections in humans worldwide. The fiercely human hero: Aquiles, el hombre, by Roberto Rivera

    No full text
This paper analyzes the play Achilles, the man, by Roberto Rivera, performed at the Teatro Romano de Mérida in 2016. The play presents Achilles as the hero in whose hands is the victory over Troy. Achilles is also a man faced with a double violence: the one that surrounds him in that endless war and the one that arises as a response to his pain. The author has turned the fragment of the epic poem into a classical tragedy thanks to his relationship/confrontation with the different characters: Briseis, Patroclus and Agamemnon. However, the work turns Achilles into a modern and self-aware character, within events completely faithful to the Iliad. Therefore, the play draws a character sometimes not always coherent, an anachronistic pacifist as out of place as the war itself

    No full text
This doctoral thesis analyzes and catalogs the presence of heraldic elements in civil and civic-religious architecture (schools and hospitals) in the city of Burgos between 1450 and 1850. This study is articulated alphabetically within each century through the lineages represented in the respective coats of arms. For a correct knowledge of these coats of arms and the lineages to which they correspond, a comparative analysis of the two medieval and modern armories, preserved in the city of Burgos, corresponding to the brotherhoods of Santiago and Nuestra Señora Santa María de Gamonal, has been necessary and appropriate. The knowledge combination drawn from in both studies is complemented by the writing of a third section in which 17 of the lineages present in the civil and civic-religious heraldry of the city of Burgos between the previously mentioned years 1450 and 1850 are exposed an analyzed. We have considered that it’s essential, for a better understanding of heraldry and the corresponding lineages, to dedicate a section to synthesize, at least briefly, the political, economic and socio-cultural contexts, unavoidable from a historical-artistic study such as the one provided here
