Giving them a voice: Examining nonprofits’ perspectives on their relationships with professional sport organizations

    No full text
Advisor: Dunja Antunovic, PhDProfessional sport organizations (PSOs) are increasingly engaging in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives within their local communities. While past studies have examined why PSOs work with local communities, the beneficiaries of these partnerships are widely dismissed from the literature. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine how nonprofits perceive PSOs’ CSR initiatives. This study has three specific aims: 1) To identify the unique benefits and challenges that nonprofits believe they yield from partnering with PSOs; 2) To understand how the relationships between nonprofits and PSOs are established from the perspective of nonprofits; and 3) To account for the (de)evolution of relationships between nonprofits and PSOs over time. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nonprofit practitioners who have collaborated with PSOs in the United States. The findings draw on gaps in the literature and provide insights into how PSOs and nonprofits can practice CSR more coherently together.Soltis, Kim. (2025). Phase Dispersion Minimization Techniques for Variable Stars

    No full text
Phase Dispersion Minimization (PDM) is a technique for detecting periodicity in irregularly sampled data sets, or data sets with sparse samples, when a Fourier transform may fail. PDM techniques are applied to visual wavelength luminosity data for the MIRA variable star Chi Cygni, and the period of Chi Cygni is calculated to be within a Julian day of existing estimates. We simulate irregularly samples sparse data sets by randomly selecting data points and using PDM techniques to calculate the period of Chi Cygni. With as little as 1.5 % of the total data, the period of Chi Cygni is calculated within a Julian day. This research was supported by the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).Lundgren, Riley. See the above abstract. In my 5,800-word review essay "Agnes Collard's 2025 Book Open Socrates: The Case for the Philosophical Life, and Walter J. Ong's Thought," I first highlight my life and my reading, including highlighting the thought of the American Jesuit Renaissance specialist and cultural historian and pioneering media ecology theorist Walter Jackson Ong, Jr. (1912-2003; Ph.D. in English, Harvard University, 1955) of Saint louis University, the Jesuit university in the City of St. Louis, Missouri -- where, over the years, I took five courses from Father Ong. Nest, I succinctly highlight Agnes Collard's new 2025 book Open Socrates: The Case for the Philosophical Life (Doubleday). But are contemporary Americans ready to hear Agnes Collard's case for the philosophical life? She makes a good case. In my 5,800-word review essay, I mention Agnes Collard by name 33 times; I mention Ong by name 27 times.N/AFarrell, Thomas. (2025).
