    Ruts from field traffic can cause long-lasting soil compaction and yield loss. This fact sheet outlines best practices for repairing ruts, limiting traffic in wet conditions, controlled traffic, and using cover crops to restore soil structure. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy files (folders) can be opened with MNOVA or another NMR processing software. Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) files are present as raw data files that can be opened in Excel (.csv). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) files are present as exported temperature and heat flow data that can be opened in Excel (.xls). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) files are present as exported temperature and mass data that can be opened in Excel (.csv). Tensile test files are present as exported force, stroke, stress, and strain data that can be opened in Excel (.csv). Stress relaxation (SR) files are present as exported time and modulus data that can be opened in Excel (.xls) X-ray scattering files are present as 1D scattering vector (q) and intensity (I) data that can be opened in Excel (.txt) and as 2D images in .jpg format. Swelling and gel fraction data are present as mass data that can be opened in Excel (.csv or .xlsx)These files contain primary data along with associated output from instrumentation supporting all results reported in Kuenen et al. Recyclable crosslinked polyethylene from self-condensing functionalized telechelic polyethylene combining olefin metathesis, hydrogenation, and transesterification. In Kuenen et al. we found: Crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) is a high-performance thermoset with improved thermomechanical properties compared to its parent linear polymer, polyethylene (PE). The covalent bonds linking PEX, however, prevent efficient recycling or reprocessing, which represents a critical liability with respect to addressing the current global plastic waste crisis. Current strategies to impart recyclability into PEX rely largely on radical chemistries which are difficult to control and lead to side reactions. Here, leveraging the versatility of ruthenium-based catalysis, we prepare self-condensing PE with both telechelic and pendent functional groups (hydroxyls and esters, respectively). Self-condensation of these polymers gives ester-crosslinked PEX which returns to the original linear polymer upon alcoholysis. In addition to chemical recyclability, these materials exhibit stress relaxation at elevated temperatures and we demonstrate their vitrimeric behavior in a simple reprocessing experiment.     Temporal and spatial variability of the microbiota and Salmonella in a commercial pork processing plant

Advisor: Noelle Noyes. 1 computer file (PDF); xix, 274 pages.The conversion of living muscle into food involves a complex sequence of steps, beginning with animal growth and transport, followed by harvest, fabrication, packaging, and distribution to the consumer. Each stage in the fresh pork supply chain can influence the microbial community present in the final product. However, the temporal and spatial variability of the microbiota in both meat and environmental surfaces within a commercial pork processing facility is not well understood. Furthermore, knowledge gaps exist regarding Salmonella spp. prevalence, concentration, and serotypes present over multi-day production schedules and across multiple processing lines in the same commercial processing facility. This dissertation explores the temporal and spatial dynamics of both the microbiota and Salmonella spp. in meat and environmental contact surfaces at a commercial pork processing plant. Collectively, these studies revealed the temporal and spatial variability of the microbiota and Salmonella spp. in fresh pork within a commercial processing plant. Findings can help processors develop effective intervention and sanitation strategies to reduce variability, enhance food safety, and improve product quality throughout the fresh pork supply chain.Asmus, Aaron.     Dysphagia resolution in premature infants

Advisor: Katlyn McGrattan. 1 computer file (PDF); vi, 19 pages.Background: Premature infants commonly have difficulty with feeding and swallowing due to neuromuscular immaturity. In some cases, these deficits cause milk to go into the infant’s airway (dysphagia), which poses a threat to infant health and nutrition. Unfortunately, little is known regarding the estimated time to resolution of these deficits. The aim of this investigation is to examine the time to resolution of dysphagia in premature infants. Methods: A retrospective cohort investigation was conducted from a single tertiary hospital examining medical records of premature infants who exhibit penetration or aspiration on videofluoroscopic swallowing assessment (VFSS). Charts were reviewed for follow-up VFSS results pertaining to bolus airway entry, with survival analyses completed to calculate estimated time to resolution of aspiration. Results: Seventy preterm infants were identified and included in this investigation with an average gestational age of 30 ± 5 weeks. The majority of infants (67.1%, N=47) had at least one comorbidity. The vast majority (96%, N=67) underwent a VFSS due to insufficient volume of intake. Infants underwent 1-5 follow-up exams with an average of 3.06 ± 1.15 exams. Half, 50% of the infants achieved aspiration resolution by 5.25 months postmenstrual age (PMA), and 75% achieved resolution by 15 months PMA. Penetration only resolved in 20% (8) of infants by the end of study follow-up time. Interestingly, 41% (N=29) of infants showed a decline in airway protection on at least one consistency during a follow-up exam. Conclusion: Our data suggests the majority of preterm infants with aspiration will have resolution by 15 months PMA, though will continue to have penetration. Future prospective studies controlling for comorbidities and resolution of clinical symptoms are necessary to more clearly define dysphagia resolution timelines.Meyering, Miranda. (2025). Advisor: Betsy Maloney Leaf. 1 computer file (PDF); x, 164 pages + 1 supplementary file.This dissertation study combines narrative storytelling, self-study, Black feminist methods, and arts-based educational research (ABER) to consider how three generations of my maternal lineage have experienced the phenomenon of Black womanhood throughout our lives, education, teaching careers, and art. Importantly, this study also pilots an extension of current arts-based research methods called Empathetic Embodiment (EE). EE as a qualitative data analysis method I developed out of necessity given the importance of race, family, movement, and embodiment to this project. EE’s distinguishing feature is how the method enables researchers to better attend to the lived, embodied, and affective experiences participants share by integrating kinesthetic, cognitive, and even spiritual approaches to data analysis. It provides a structured way for researchers to empathize with participants and thus code traditional qualitative data with more fidelity and nuance.This study represents the first use of the EE method in an official research capacity and considers the following primary research question: “How can Empathetic Embodiment make sense of the ways dance, education, and Blackness are braided through my maternal lineage?” Narrative “snapshots” (Gloria-Ladson Billings, 2009, pg.31) of my maternal grandmother, mother, and myself are presented alongside detailed descriptions of both the theory and practice of EE. Ultimately, our stories demonstrate some of the ways arts education, specifically, and Black experiences of teaching and learning more broadly, fit into Black women’s expression and development of themselves.Fox-Charles, Rae.
