    No full text
The aim of this study is to develop a deeper understanding of how communication professionals in Swedish elite sports clubs strategically use communication to build and maintain relationships with their audiences. The study applies a qualitative research design based on semi-structured interviews with communication professionals working within Swedish elite sports organizations. The empirical material was analyzed using thematic analysis. The theoretical framework is grounded in Relationship Management Theory (RMT), which conceptualizes communication as a long-term, relational process rather than isolated communicative actions. The findings show that communication work within elite sports is largely event-driven and closely tied to matches and sporting results, which strongly influence planning, tone, and audience engagement. While organizational size and resources create differences in working conditions, similarities emerge in how relationships, emotions, and long-term brand building are prioritized. Personal and relationship-oriented content is perceived to generate higher engagement than purely sport-related information, although time and resource constraints often limit such efforts. Despite operational challenges and uncertainty regarding effective relationship strategies, communication work is experienced as meaningful due to audience engagement and the sense of contributing to something beyond individual roles. The study highlights how relationship-oriented communication is shaped by both strategic intentions and structural constraints within elite sports organizations

The aim of this study is to examine how the stay-at-home girlfriend ideal is represented on the social media platform Tiktok, within a contemporary Swedish context, and how these representations can be understood in relation to gender norms, relationship and power relations. The study focuses on how meaning is produced through language, visual elements and other semiotic resources, and discusses whether these representations contribute to reproduction and normalization of traditional gender roles and power structures. Our study adapts a qualitative approach and uses critical discourse analysis (CDA) in combination with multimodal critical discourse analysis (MCDA) to analyze a strategic selection of Tiktok videos. The analysis rests on Norman Fairclough´s three-dimensional model and incorporates a multimodal perspective to identify auditory features. Theoretical frameworks are based on Judith Butler´s theory of performativity and normativity, Rosalind Gill´s concept of postfeminist media culture and Stuart Hall´s theories of representation and hegemony. The findings show that the stay-at-home girlfriend ideal is constructed as a legitimate, desirable and self-chosen lifestyle, where economic dependence and traditional gender roles are reframed as safety, happiness and personal choice. At the same time these representations contribute to normalization of gendered and class-based power relations by reinforcing a traditional division of labor

Building on the persistent gender segregation in the Swedish labor market, this study examines how such segregation is reproduced through the language used in job advertisements. The aim is to analyze how gendered assumptions are constructed and maintained in advertisements from male- and female dominated sectors, and what ideals about the worker are established through these representations. Central questions concern how desired qualities are expressed and how discourses contribute to constituting gender in job advertisements. Previous research indicates that gender coded language can influence who feels encouraged to apply for a job. The study applies a critical discourse analysis based on Fairclough's three dimensional model (1992). Drawing on 30 advertisements, the analysis reveals female dominated occupations emphasise relational and care- oriented qualities, whereas maledominated occupations highlight autonomy and performance- oriented traits. These linguistic patterns reproduce assumptions about qualities considered natural for women and men, respectively. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that gendered discourses are actively produced in job advertisements and may contribute to sustaining a gender-segregated labour market.

    No full text
This study examines how university students perceive the significance of social networks in the search for part-time jobs, and how access to these networks is shaped by power and social background. The study is based on the assumption that part-time jobs during the study period constitute an important entry into working life, but that the possibility of obtaining such jobs is determined not only by merits but also by who one knows. The study is theoretically grounded in Bourdieu’s concept of social capital and Elias and Scotson’s theory of the established and the outsiders. The empirical material is based on semi-structured interviews with ten university students. The results show how social networks function as a central resource in the job search and how access is unequally distributed. In the analysis, three empirically emerging subthemes are identified that make visible different positions in relation to social networks: inside, between, and outside. Students in the inside position have strong, inherited social networks that provide direct access to part-time jobs, the between position is characterised by more limited and context-bound networks, while the outside position consists of students who lack relevant contacts and to a greater extent rely on formal application channels and previous work experience. The study shows that social networks in this life phase are to a large extent inherited, context-bound, and function as a power resource that affects both opportunities for part-time jobs and experiences of justice. This contributes to a deeper understanding of how inequality in access to social networks is shaped early in the establishment process and how these can function as an informal power structure in the search for part-time jobs.

Children’s Experiences of Staying at Domestic Violence Shelters in Sweden

    No full text
Knowledge about children’s experiences of staying at domestic violence (DV) shelters, and their quality of life while living there, is limited. This study aims to examine how children describe staying at DV shelters in Sweden, and to identify important aspects of such experiences, both positive and negative. Thematic analysis was used to analyze 12 interviews with children aged 7–17 years. The findings show that the shelter environment, activities, and social relations are important for their quality of life, and that when these are lacking there is a risk that children will feel bored and isolated. Thus, although staying in a DV shelter for a period of time may be necessary to ensure children’s safety, it often comes at a cost; therefore, shelters need to be adapted to meet children’s needs

DIGISCREEN

A new and more accurate overfill ratio for beach nourishments and its comparison with James' RA

    No full text
Pranzini et al. (2018) designed a method, for borrowed sediment selection in beach nourishment projects, that solved the problems inherent to James' abacus (1975). However, it suffered in turn from the lack of an overfill ratio. A new and more accurate methodology is presented here to calculate the mentioned ratio. To demonstrate the implications of the new proposed method, the overfill ratios calculated are compared with those obtained using the method of James (RA) for nine beaches and nourished sands with different granulometries. The comparison showed that the method of James (1975) predicted a much larger fraction of the borrow sediment to be unstable, thus requiring higher nourishment volumes to achieve a certain beach width and implying increased economic costs
