Acute Effects of Nutritional and Physical Recovery Strategies on Exercise Performance, Muscle Damage, and Fatigue in Elite Basketball Players: A Pilot Randomized Crossover Trial
Background: Due to the congested competition calendar and the high physical demands of elite basketball, the selection of effective recovery strategies is essential to optimize performance and reduce exercise-induced fatigue and muscle damage. This pilot study aimed to examine the acute effects of different nutritional and physical recovery strategies on exercise performance, muscle damage, and perceived fatigue and exertion in elite basketball players. Methods: Fifteen elite male basketball players participated in this pilot randomized crossover trial and completed four recovery conditions: cold-water immersion (CWI), active recovery (ACT), protein–carbohydrate supplementation (SUP), and placebo (PLA). Following a basketball-specific fatigue protocol, creatine kinase, countermovement jump performance, isometric strength, 10 m sprint, and 4 × 10 m shuttle run tests were assessed at baseline, immediately post-exercise, and 24 h post-exercise. Perceived fatigue and rate of perceived exertion were measured at baseline, immediately post-exercise, immediately after the recovery intervention, and 24 h post-exercise. Results: The three recovery methods attenuated the 24 h exercise-induced increase in CK compared with the placebo condition (p > 0.05). CWI, SUP and ACT decreased fatigue and RPE immediately after their application (p < 0.05), while PLA kept them elevated. CWI was associated with a significant improvement in 4 × 10 m SRT performance (p = 0.027). Conclusions: Nutritional supplementation and physical recovery strategies effectively attenuated exercise-induced muscle damage and fatigue in elite basketball players. However, CWI demonstrated the most pronounced acute benefits for physical performance recovery

“Estarse + {AdjP/PP/locative AdvP}” in Spanish. The emphatic clitic
In the most recent literature on the subject, the differences between the structure “estarse + {AdjP/
PP/locative AdvP}” (Juan se estuvo {callado/en silencio/en la casa/allí}) and its counterpart without
the clitic are typically found at the aspectual level and at the level of the semantic sentence structure. Currently, four hypotheses are considered regarding the role played by the presence of the clitic in constructions such as these: a) when dealing with states, the presence of the clitic is only possible with a non-canonical state, that is, with a resultant state that presupposes a previous achievement and whose subject is a controller (Morimoto 2008 and 2011); b) when dealing with states, the clitic appears only with a controlled state (non-canonical state) whose subject is an agent (Gómez Vázquez and García Fernández 2013, who explicitly exclude from their study examples with what some authors have considered a locative predicate and others a locative argument (Juan se estuvo en la casa), and with an locative AdvP (Juan se estuvo allí)); c) the clitic modifies the eventive structure of the predicate, which changes from a canonical state to a complex event (achievement + resultant state), making the subject an agent (García Fernández and Gómez Vázquez 2015, who also exclude from their work examples such as those excluded by Gómez Vázquez and García Fernández 2013), and d) the clitic transforms the canonical state into an inchoative state and introduces a certain agentive component in the predicate (Marín and Fábregas 2018 and Fábregas 2021, pp. 79-80). The purpose of our paper is to demonstrate that these differences are solely present in the utterance, that is, in the linguistic structure with which the speech act is performed.
The clitic in this specific structure with estar enables the speaker to emphasize the participation in the denoted state of the same individual referred to by the sentence’s subject
Identification of the propertied classes of Granada through their personal identity card in 1926
The personal identification card that existed in Spain from 1834 to 1944 can be used as a historiographical tool to analyze the social structure of each Spanish province. The reform introduced by the Estatuto Provincial of 1925 in the Impuesto de Cédulas Personales (ICP) also allows the quantification and identification of the property-owning class. In this case, the Granada property-owning class has been identified, confirming the large economic differences that exist within it and the smallness of the intermediate property-owning class. Municipal control of the declarations has also allowed the identification of fraudsters.Consejería de Transformación Económica, Industria, Conocimiento y Universidades de la Junta de Andalucí
Misconceptions and advances in sustainable biocontrol of Botrytis cinerea in grapevines. A review
Gray mold, caused by the necrotrophic fungus Botrytis cinerea, is among the most destructive diseases of grapevine, with yield losses that can exceed 40–70 % depending on cultivar, climate and post-harvest handling. Growing fungicide resistance and policy-driven reductions in the use of synthetic pesticides further tighten control options, creating an urgent need for eco-friendly alternatives. Biological control agents (BCAs), including antagonistic yeasts, bacteria and filamentous fungi, address this need; however, their field performance is often inconsistent and misconceptions persist about pathogen ecology, optimal application timing and regulatory requirements. This review consolidates recent progress in sustainable biocontrol of gray mold and analyses how four biocontrol-enhancing attributes: (i) antagonist diversity, (ii) solo versus consortium applications, (iii) protective formulations, and (iv) risk-aligned spray timing guided by disease-forecast models. The key findings are as follows: 1) new insights into multitrophic interactions now guide targeted strain selection; 2) precision-application technologies align BCA delivery with pathogen risk windows, reducing product losses; 3) innovative formulations and well-designed microbial consortia extend persistence under field stress; 4) epidemiological modelling reveals climate-driven shifts in gray-mold pressure and their implications for BCA success; and 5) adoption barriers can be lowered through harmonized regulation and grower education. Combining these attributes results in mean reductions in bunch-rot severity, outlining a credible pathway toward reliable, pesticide-sparing management of B. cinerea and supporting the transition to more sustainable viticulture
Attribute Implication Bases From Galois Connection Structures
Modeling knowledge systems by determining relationships among key variables have been and currently is a fundamental and nontrivial challenge in real-world scenarios. Many approaches have been developed to reach this goal, but many of them are heuristic and require of alternative procedures to provide robust and tractable rules. With this significant aim, attribute implications were introduced in the mathematical framework of Formal Concept Analysis. In this paper, we will introduce a novel procedure to obtain relationships among variables from any dataset in which a Galois connection has been defined. In particular, we will be focused on the general multiadjoint framework, which is one of the most general approached in which a Galois connection have been considered, although the obtained results and methodology can also be used in other well-known approaches, such as in the residuated or heterogeneous frameworks
The ‘SoU’ must go on: Redefining the scope of the Bengal rule as an alternative to Article 76 of UNCLOS
The Statement of Understanding (SoU) emerged as an alternative method for delineating the outer limits of the continental shelf. To prevent inequities for States whose sediment accumulation extends hundreds of kilometers seaward but whose foot of slope lies unusually close to their baselines, Sri Lanka championed this initiative. Although originally intended for the Bay of Bengal, the mechanism has since been invoked by other States that consider themselves to meet the relevant geological criteria. In this context, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Spain (in relation to the Galicia region) have all relied on the SoU. The central issue, however, lies in its interpretation. The SoU is set out in only five paragraphs contained in Annex II of the Final Act of UNCLOS, providing States with a degree of discretion. Nevertheless, the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) applies its own interpretative approach. This paper offers a legal and technical examination of the conditions required for applying the SoU method. It analyzes the legal framework governing its use, highlighting the challenges that arise in practice. A central focus is the interpretative role of the CLCS. Given the absence of clear standards and the intricacies of individual submissions, this study critically evaluates how the CLCS has addressed the uncertainties surrounding the SoU method. The analysis is grounded in a detailed review of State submissions and the practice of the CLCS, offering insights into the Commission’s evolving interpretative approach and the implications for coastal States seeking to extend their continental shelf
Discrete location models with customers’ choice and path improvements
We examine several facility location problems within a directed network involving two distinct cost types. The first, referred to as the ‘‘customer cost’’, represents the expense each customer considers when selecting a facility to obtain service (e.g., delivery time or a measure of quality degradation). Consequently, once facilities are established, each customer chooses the one that minimizes their individual cost. The second type, termed the ‘‘company cost’’, encompasses all expenses incurred by the company due to customer allocation to their chosen facilities. Additionally, the company possesses a budget that can be allocated to reduce company costs associated with the network’s arcs (the so-called arcs upgrading). The company’s objective is to simultaneously determine facility locations and distribute the budget (or a portion of it) across the network arcs to minimize the total company cost. This total company cost comprises the post-upgrading company costs and the invested budget, while accounting for customer reactions after facility placement. Different problem variants emerge based on the facility location criteria and customers’ choice strategy. In this paper, we address the following problems: the -median problem, a two-stage facility location problem, a single-allocation hub location problem, and a tree-of-hubs location problem — all incorporating customers’ choice and arc upgrading
