    Cerebrovascular radiological features of COVID-19 positive patients

    OBJECTIVE: To investigate acute cerebrovascular diseases (stroke and intracranial hemorrhage) by cranial radiologic examinations of patients infected with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and with neurological signs. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between March 2020 and May 2021, patients who were admitted to the Emergency Department and had a positive reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test and underwent Multidetector Computed Tomography (MDCT) and/or Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI), and/or diffusion MRI due to neurological findings were included in the study. RESULTS: The study reviewed a total of 925 patients, including 404 (43.67%) female and 521 (56.32%) male patients. The distribution of imaging methods was as follows: 805 (71%) patients had cranial MDCT, 71 (6.35%) patients had MRI, and 241 (21.57%) patients had diffusion MRI. Of the total 925 patients, 128 (13.8%) patients were detected with cerebrovascular diseases, 92 (9.9%) patients were detected with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, 37 (4%) patients were detected with intraparenchymal hemorrhage, 10 (1.1%) patients were detected with subarachnoid hemorrhage, and four (0.43%) patients were detected with subdural hemorrhage. There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of subdural, subarachnoid, parenchymal hemorrhage. and stroke in terms of gender. While there was a significant difference in stroke according to age, there was no statistically significant difference in subdural, subarachnoid, and parenchymal hemorrhagic. Three (0.32%) patients were diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM)'s-like demyelinating lesions. CONCLUSIONS: Cerebrovascular diseases, which may cause severe disability and even threaten the patient's life, should be kept in mind, especially in COVID-19 patients who present with neurological symptoms

    Investigation of the effect of vitamin D on testicular damage caused by cisplatin in rats

    Sıçanlarda Sisplatinin Meydana Getirdiği Testis Hasarı Üzerine D Vitamini Etkisinin Araştırılması Amaç: Çalışmamızda sisplatinin neden olduğu testis hasarına karşı VD'nin etkilerini histopatolojik, immunohistokimyasal ve biyokimyasal yöntemlerle araştırmayı amaçladık. Gereç ve Yöntem: 28 adet Wistar albino sıçan kontrol ve VD grubunda 6, sisplatin ve sisplatin+VD grubunda 8 adet olarak dört gruba ayrıldı. Sıçanların deney başında ve sonunda vücut ve testis ağırlıkları ölçüldü. 10 günlük deney sonunda ketamin/ksilazin anestezisi altında sıçanlar sakrifiye edildi. Sağ testisler biyokimyasal analizlerde, sol testisler histolojik analizlerde kullanıldı. Alınan dokular, rutin doku takip işlemlerinden geçirilerek parafine gömüldü. Parafin bloklardan alınan seri kesitlere HE, PAS, kaspaz-3 ve VDR boyama metodları uygulandı. Epididimis kauda kısmından elde edilen semen örneklerinden sperm vitalitesi ve morfolojisi değerlendirildi. Ayrıca sperm sayımı yapıldı. Biyokimyasal olarak TOS, TAS, FSH, LH, testosteron, östrojen, VD, Ca ve P düzeyleri ELISA test kitleri aracılığıyla spektrofotometrik yöntemler kullanılarak ölçüldü. Bulgular: Histopatolojik analizlerde; sisplatin grubunda seminifer tübül çapı ve germinal epitel kalınlığında azalma, Johnsen skorunda düşme, germinal hücrelerde dejeneratif değişiklikler gözlendi. PAS boyamada bazal membranda ondülasyon ve artmış pozitiflik izlendi. Kaspaz-3 immün pozitiflik artarken, VDR immün boyama azalmış tespit edildi. Biyokimyasal analizlerde; sisplatin grubunda TOS da anlamlı artış görülürken TAS yönünden anlamlı bir fark tespit edilmedi. FSH, LH, Testosteron, VD Ca ve P yönünden kontrol ile kıyaslandığında istatistiksel olarak bir fark izlenmedi. Östrojenin ise kontrole göre anlamlı düzeyde düştüğü görüldü. Sperm sayısı ve sperm vitalitesi kontrol grubuna göre azalmış, sperm anomalisi ise artmış tespit edildi. VD uygulamasının histolojik hasarı azalttığı ve Johnsen skorunda anlamlı yükselmeye neden olduğu görüldü. Bu grupta kaspaz-3 immün boyanma azalırken VDR immün boyanmada artış izlendi. Biyokimyasal olarak TOS düzeyinde anlamlı azalma ve VD seviyesinde anlamlı artış tespit edildi. Sonuçlar: Sonuç olarak bu çalışma, sisplatin ile testis hasarı oluşturulan sıçanlarda VD uygulamasının testiküler hasarı hafiflettiğini göstermektedir. Bununla birlikte, klinik tedavi protokollerine VD'nin eklenmesi için daha ileri çalışmaların yapılmasına ihtiyaç vardır. Anahtar Kelimeler: D Vitamini, Sıçan, Sisplatin, TestisABSTRACT Investigation of the Effect of Vitamin D on Testicular Damage Caused by Cisplatin in Rats Aim: In our study, we aimed to investigate the effects of VD against testicular damage caused by cisplatin by histopathological, immunohistochemical and biochemical methods. Material and Method: 28 Wistar Albino rats were divided into four groups, 6 in the control and VD groups, and 8 in the cisplatin and cisplatin+ VD groups. Body and testicular weights of the rats were measured at the beginning and end of the experiment. At the end of the 10-day experiment, the rats were sacrificed under ketamine/xylazine anesthesia. Right testicles were used for biochemical analyzes and left testicles were used for histological analyses. Tissues were taken through routine tissue follow-up procedures and embedded in paraffin. HE, PAS, caspase-3 and VDR staining methods were applied to serial sections taken from paraffin blocks. Sperm vitality and morphology were evaluated from semen samples obtained from the cauda part of the epididymis. Number of sperms was also counted. Biochemically, TOS, TAS, FSH, LH, testosterone, estrogen, VD, Ca and P levels were measured by ELISA test kits using spectrophotometric methods. Results: In histopathological analysis; a decrease in seminiferous tubule diameter and germinal epithelial thickness, decrease in Johnsen score, and degenerative changes in germinal cells were observed in the cisplatin group. In PAS staining, corrugation and increased positivity were observed in the basement membrane. While caspase-3 immune positivity increased, VDR immunostaining decreased. In biochemical analysis; while a significant increase was observed in TOS in the cisplatin group, no significant difference was found in terms of TAS. No statistical difference was observed in terms of FSH, LH, Testosterone, VD, Ca and P when compared with the control. It was observed that estrogen decreased significantly compared to the control. Sperm count and sperm vitality were decreased compared to the control group, and sperm anomaly was increased. It was observed that VD application reduced histological damage and caused a significant increase in Johnsen score. In this group, caspase-3 immunostaining decreased while VDR immunostaining increased. Biochemically, a significant decrease in TOS level and a significant increase in VD level were detected. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study shows that VD administration alleviates testicular damage in rats with cisplatin-induced testicular damage.     Co-encapsulation of broccoli sprout extract nanoliposomes into basil seed gum: effects on in vitro antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-Listeria activities in ricotta cheese

    This study aimed to investigate the antioxidant and antibacterial activities (AOA and ABA) of broccoli sprout extract (BSE) nanoliposomes co-encapsulated into basil seeds gum (BSG). The characteristics of the BSE-loaded nanoliposomes and nano-capsules were firstly determined. Their functional (antioxidant and antibacterial) properties were tested in vitro, and their anti-Listeria effect (at 0.4 and 0.8% w/w) on ricotta cheese was evaluated. The produced nanoliposomes and nano-capsules were spherical in shape and did not tend to accumulate. The mean particle size, polydispersity index (PDI) and encapsulation efficiency (EE) were observed about 39.60 and 69.00 nm, 0.279 and 0.496, 85.73 and 88.46% for nano-capsules and nanoliposomes, respectively. The zeta potential (zeta) values were observed at -65.73 and -71.16 mV and therefore the nanoparticles had good stability and uniform particle size distribution. Encapsulation had no significant effect on total phenol and flavonoids content of the BSE. The amounts of these active compounds were in the range of 25.12-26.97 mg GAE/g dw and 6.84-6.95 mg QE/g dw, respectively. The free and encapsulated BSE displaying good AOA in the DPPH, ABTS and FRAP assays. Results of the ABA measured by inhibition zone diameter and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) demonstrated that the free BSE had antibacterial action against the tested Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and the nano-encapsulation process led to improved ABA of this extract. The organic acids in BES indicated the presence of high levels of citric, malic and oxalic acids at 613, 98 and, 45 (mg/g dw), respectively. The BSE-loaded nanoparticles showed remarkable anti-Listeria activity in ricotta cheese, which their activity increased with increasing their concentration. In conclusion, BSE-loaded nanoliposomes and nano-capsules have potential interest to be used as natural antioxidants and preservatives for food applications

    The efficiency of the informal economy and revenue administration in Turkey

    Kayıt dışı ekonomi hem gelişmiş hem de az gelişmiş ülkeleri ekonomik ve mali yönden tehdit eden önemli bir olgudur. Bu olgunun tamamen yok edilmesi mümkün olmadığı için büyüklüğünün azaltılması amacıyla birtakım önlemler alınması gerektiği araştırmacılar tarafından vurgulanmıştır. Ülkemizde kayıt dışı ekonomi ile mücadele etme görevi Gelir İdaresi Başkanlığı'nın sorumluluğundadır. Değişen sosyal ve ekonomik faktörler sonucunda, artış eğilimi gösteren mükelleflere hizmet verebilmek için gelir idaresi mevcut yapısıyla yetersiz kalmıştır. Bu nedenle gelir idaresi yapısında iyileştirme çalışmaları yapmak ve bu eksiklikleri gidermek amacıyla yapısal reform çalışmaları gerçekleştirilmiş ve bu çalışmalar neticesinde otomasyon projeleri hayata geçirilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, özellikle gelişmekte olan ülkelerde görülen kayıt dışı ekonomi sorunsalını irdeleyerek Türkiye'de vergi dairesi uygulamalarının kayıt dışı ekonominin neden olduğu sorunların çözümünde hangi politika ve uygulamaları gerçekleştirdiği ve yapılan çalışmaların kayıt dışı ekonomi oranının azaltılmasında etkili olup olmadığını inceleyerek tespit yapılmasıdır. Since it is not possible to completely eradicate this phenomenon, it has been emphasized by the researchers that some measures should be taken to reduce its size. The task of combating the informal economy in our country is the responsibility of the Revenue Administration. As a result of the changing social and economic factors, the revenue administration remained insufficient with its current structure in order to serve the taxpayers showing an increasing trend. For this reason, structural reform studies were carried out in order to improve the revenue administration structure and to eliminate these deficiencies, and automation projects were implemented as a result of these studies. The aim of this study is to examine the informal economy problematic, especially in developing countries, and to determine by examining which policies and practices are implemented by the tax office practices in solving the problems caused by the informal economy, and whether the studies are effective in reducing the rate of the informal economy.     The role of Jaʽfari̇sm in Ottoman-Iran relations

    Caferilik mezhebinin ortaya çıkışı ile ilgili olarak çeşitli tezler ortaya atılmaktadır. Bütün Şii mezheplerde hâkim olan ortak görüşe göre Hz. Ali halifeliğe nass ve tayin ile seçilmiştir ve imam kabul edilen kişiler masumdurlar. Hz. Ali oğulları Hz. Hasan ve Hz. Hüseyin ile sıralı 9 torunu ihtiva eden on iki kişi imam olarak anılmış ve bu döneme de "imamlar dönemi" olarak adlandırılmıştır. On ikinci imamın kaybolması sonrası başlayan küçük gaybet döneminde (874-941) ilk olarak mezhebin fikrî temelleri atılmış ve mezhep mensupları "İsnâaşeriyye veya İmâmiyye" olarak anılmaya başlanmışlardır. Görevlendirilen dördüncü sefirin vefatı ile beraber küçük gaybet dönemi bitmiş ve büyük gaybet dönemi (941) başlamıştır. Büyük gaybetin başlamasından günümüze kadar Caferilik mezhebi çeşitli gelişmeler kaydetmiştir. Mezhebin yaygın olarak bulunduğu İran topraklarına ve Bağdat'a hâkim olan hânedanların gelişmeler üzerinde ciddi tesirleri olmuştur. Özellikle Safevîler döneminde Ahbarî bir fıkıh anlayışı hâkim olmuştur. Mezhep, Caferilik olarak anılmaya ilk Afşar Hânedanı hükümdarı Nadir Şah dönemi ile başlanmıştır. Afşarlar döneminde mezhep sadece isim değişikliğine gitmemiş aynı zamanda Ahbarî fıkıh anlayışından Usulî fıkıh anlayışına da dönüşüm yaşanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı yaşanan bu dönüşüm aşamasındaki Osmanlı-Afşar ilişkilerini mercek altına almak ve sürece katkılarını irdelemektir. Şöyle ki, Nadir Şah toplumdaki mezhebî dönüşüm arzusunu iyi etüt etmiş, teknik olarak hazırlık yapmış ve bu dönüşümde dış destek almak için Osmanlı Devleti'nin yardımına müracaat etmiştir. Dönüşümden murat edilen en önemli hususlar ise Caferilik'in hak mezhep olarak kabul edilmesi ve Mekke'de rükün verilmesi olmuştur. Yapılan diplomatik müzakerelerde Nadir Şah'ın Caferilik'i dönüştürme projesine istenilen düzeyde siyasi destek çıkmamıştır. Ancak 1743 senesinde Necef'de yapılan ve aralarında Osmanlı Devleti yöneticilerinin de görevlendirdiği Sünnî âlimlerin de katıldığı ilmi istişarelerden Nadir Şah'ın düşüncesine ilmi destek çıkmış ve uzlaşma metni toplam 43 âlim tarafından imzalanmıştır. Yakın tarih âlimlerinin meseleye benzer şekilde açıklamalar yapmaları ve el Ezher şeyhlerinden Mahmûd Şeltût'un 1 Ekim 1958 tarihinde Caferiliğin hak mezhep olduğuna dair fetva vermesi ve akabinde Ezher'de bir Caferî fıkıh kürsüsünün kurulması tartışmanın bir süre daha devam edeceğini gözler önüne sermektedir.Various theses have been put forward regarding the emergence of the Jaʽfarı Sect. According to the common view in all Shiite sects, Ali was elected to the caliphate by nass and appointment, and those who are accepted as imams are innocent. The Twelve people, including Ali, his sons Hasan and Huseyin, and 9 grandchildren were called as imams and this period was defined as the period of imams. In the small occultation period (874-941the intellectual foundations of the sect were first laid and the members of the sect began to be called as the Twelver. With the death of the fourth ambassador, who was appointed by the twelfth imam, the period of minor occultation ended and the period of great occultation (941) began. From the beginning of the great occultation to the present day, Jaʽfarı Sect has made various developments. The dynasties that dominated Iran and Baghdad, where the sect was widespread, had serious effects on the developments. Especially during the Safevîd period, an akhbari fiqh understanding prevailed. The sect began to be known as Ja'farism in the period of Nadir Shah, the first ruler of the Afshar Dynasty. During the Afshar period, the sect did not only change its name, but also changed from Ahbarî fiqh to procedural fiqh. The aim of this study is to examine the Ottoman-Afşar relations in this transformation phase and to examine their contributions to the process. Namely, Nadir Shah studied the desire for sectarian transformation in the society well, made technical preparations and applied for the help of the Ottoman State to get foreign support in this transformation. The most important issues intended by the transformation were the acceptance of Ja'farism as the true sect and giving the bow in Mecca. From the diplomatic negotiations, the desired level of political support did not emerge for Nadir Shah's project transformation of Ja'farism. However, scientific support for Nadir Shah's thought was obtained from the scientific consultations held in Najaf in 1743 and attended by Sünnî scholars, among whom were appointed by the Ottoman State administrators, and the reconciliation text was signed by a total of 43 scholars. Recent scholars' explanations similar to the issue and Mahmud Şeltût, one of the al-Azhar sheikhs, issued a fatwa on October 1, 1958 that Jafarism is the true sect, and the establishment of a Jafari fiqh chair in Azhar, reveals that the debate will continue for a while

    Field reconnaissance and structural assessment of the October 30, 2020, Samos, Aegean Sea earthquake: an example of severe damage due to the basin effect

    An earthquake with a magnitude ranging from Mw = 6.9 (KOERI) to Mw = 7.0 (USGS) struck Samos Island in the Aegean Sea on October 30, 2020, with an epicentre 70 kms from the Izmir city centre in Turkey. The earthquake took place at 14:51 local time (11:51 UTC). The peak ground acceleration (PGA) of this earthquake was recorded to be 0.179 g at the epicentre of the earthquake. This earthquake occurred at a depth of 17.26 km (AFAD (2020) Izmir Earthquake Report, (In Turkish)) and lasted 16 s. The main shock from the earthquake triggered a tsunami that hit the building stocks built near the coast. During the gradual deregulation of COVID-19 pandemic regulations, various events caused considerable damage to the building stock, particularly in the Izmir Seferihisar and Bayrakli regions and resulted in a massive disruption of daily habits. The main shock caused 117 deaths in both Turkey and Greece, and 1632 people were also injured in Turkey. Moreover, several injuries occurred in Greece. A total of 103 buildings collapsed, 700 were severely damaged, 814 buildings were moderately damaged, and 7889 were slightly damaged.     Predictors regarding childbirth fear prior to pregnancy: A study on female and male students

    Several predictors of childbirth fear during pregnancy have been identified. However, the influence of prior to pregnancy parameters has not been elucidated. This study was conducted to determine childbirth fear prior to pregnancy and identify its predictors among XXX female and male students. This cross-sectional study was conducted between March and June 2018. The sample consisted of 842 students (421 female and 421 male) who were studying at a state university in the eastern side of XXX. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Women Childbirth Fear – Prior to Pregnancy Scale, the Men Childbirth Fear – Prior to Pregnancy Scale, the TenItem Personality Inventory, and the Beck Anxiety Inventory. A hierarchical linear regression model indicated that planning to have a cesarean section, expected labor pain, being extroverted, being agreeable, and anxiety were among the important indicators of female students’ childbirth fear prior to pregnancy (?=0.147, ?=0.162, ?=0.124, ?=0.124, and ?=0.183, respectively; p<0.05). According to a simple linear regression model, expected labor pain, being extroverted, characteristics of neuroticism, and anxiety were among the most important indicators of male students’ childbirth fear prior to pregnancy (?=0.164, ?=0.113, ?=0.153, and ?=0.130, respectively; p<0.05). Severe labor pain expectancy and high anxiety levels are predictors of childbirth fear prior to pregnancy in both female and male students. Extroversion and agreeableness in female students; extroversion and neuroticism in male students are personality traits that affect childbirth fear prior to pregnancy

    TÜRKİYE’DE SİYASİ PARTİLERİN BİREYSEL SİLAHLANMAYA BAKIŞI

    Bu çalışmada Türkiye’de 2002–2021 arası dönemde parlamentoda grubu bulunan siyasi partilerin bireysel silahlanmaya bakışı irdelenmektedir. Çalışmada öncelikle kavramsal düzeyde silahlanma konusu, bireyleri silahlanmaya iten nedenler ile Türkiye’deki bireysel silahlanma düzeyi ele alınmaktadır. Sonrasında ise, ülkedeki siyasi partilerin bireysel silahlanmaya yönelik yaklaşımları, milletvekillerinin yasama faaliyetleri üzerinden değerlendirilmektedir. Toplumsal güvenliği tehdit eden bireysel silahlanmanın engellenmesi veya azaltılmasına yönelik siyasi partilerin sorumluluk üstlenmesi gerekliliğin de ötesinde bir zorunluluk halini almıştır.Türkiye’de pek çok sorun gibi, bireysel silahlanma sorunu üzerinde de siyaset kurumunun bütünselliği ve devamlılığı bulunan bir politika geliştirememesi, konuyu tepkisel bir yaklaşımla ele alması söz konusudur. Ayrıca, toplumun bütün katmanlarını olumsuz etkileyen bireysel silahlanma konusunda, siyasi partilerin birlikte hareket etmemesi, sorunun toplumsal etkisini daha da artırmaktadır. Çalışmada siyasi partilerin bireysel silahlanmaya yönelik ilgi düzeyleri belirlendikten sonra, konuyu gündemine alan siyasi partilerin yaklaşımları farklı yönleriyle tartışılmaktadır.In this study, the perspective of political parties that have parliamentary groups in Turkey between 2002-2021 on individual armament is examined. In the study, first of all, the issue of armament at the conceptual level, the reasons that push individuals to take up armament and the level of individual armament in Turkey are discussed. Afterwards, the approaches of the political parties in the country towards individual armament are evaluated through the legislative activities of the deputies. It has become a obligation beyond the necessity for political parties to take responsibility for the prevention or reduction of individual armament that threatens social security. Like many other problems in Turkey, the political institution's inability to develop a policy with integrity and continuity on the issue of individual armament is a matter of approaching the issue with a reactive approach. In addition, the fact that political parties do not act together in the issue of individual armament, which negatively affects all layers of the society, further increases the social impact of the problem. In the study, after determining the level of interest of political parties in individual armament, the approaches of political parties that put the issue on their agenda are discussed from different aspects

    EFFECTS OF HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE PLUS FAVIPIRAVIR TREATMENT ON THE CLINICAL COURSE AND BIOMARKERS IN HOSPITALIZED COVID-19 PATIENTS WITH PNEUMONIA

    Background: The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a broad spectrum of clin-ical manifestations, the most common serious clinical manifestation of the coronavirus infection being pneumo-nia. Unfortunately, the optimal treatment approach is still uncertain. However, many studies have been conducted on the effectiveness of several medications in the treatment of COVID-19 infection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) + favipiravir (FAV) treatment regimen and HCQ alone by comparing the patient's clinical response and laboratory results on the fifth day of treatment in patients hospitalized due to COVID-19 infection.Patients and methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted in Malatya Training and Research Hospital between March 2020 and July 2020. The study included 69 patients with confirmed COVID-19 with pneumonia. The patients were divided into 2 groups, those receiving HCQ alone and those receiving the HCQ + FAV combination.Results: A total of 69 patients were included in the study, and the mean age was 60.09 +/- 15.56 years. A statisti-cally significant decrease was observed in C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, at the end of the fifth day, in patients who received HCQ + FAV treatment (p=0.002), whereas there was no decrease in CRP levels in patients who received HCQ treatment alone. In addition, an increase in lymphocyte count and a better fever response was observed at the end of the fifth day in patients who received HCQ + FAV (p=0.008). However, there was no statistical difference between both treatment regimens in terms of hospital stay and treatment results (p=0.008, p=0.744, p=0.517).Conclusion: Although the combination of HCQ + FAV treatment was observed to be effective on CRP levels and fever response in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia, there was no difference in terms of hospital stay and discharge

    Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of COVID-19 in Turkish Patients with Hematological Malignancies

    Objective: Patients with solid malignancies are more vulnerable to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection than the healthy population. The outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infection in highly immunosuppressed populations, such as in patients with hematological malignancies, is a point of interest. We aimed to analyze the symptoms, complications, intensive care unit admissions, and mortality rates of patients with hematological malignancies infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Turkey. Materials and Methods: In this multicenter study, we included 340 adult and pediatric patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 from March to November 2020. Diagnosis and status of primary disease, treatment schedules for hematological malignancies, time from last treatment, life expectancy related to the hematological disease, and comorbidities were recorded, together with data regarding symptoms, treatment, and outcome of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Results: Forty four patients were asymptomatic at diagnosis of SARSCoV-2 infection. Among symptomatic patients, fever, cough, and dyspnea were observed in 62.6%, 48.8%, and 41.8%, respectively. Sixtynine (20%) patients had mild SARS-CoV-2 disease, whereas moderate, severe, and critical disease was reported in 101 (29%), 71 (20%), and 55 (16%) patients, respectively. Of the entire cohort, 251 (73.8%) patients were hospitalized for SARS-CoV-2. Mortality related to SARS-CoV-2 infection was 26.5% in the entire cohort; this comprised 4.4% of those patients with mild disease, 12.4% of those with moderate disease, and 83% of those with severe or critical disease. Active hematological disease, lower life expectancy related to primary hematological disease, neutropenia at diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2, ICU admission, and first-line therapy used for coronavirus disease-2019 treatment were found to be related to higher mortality rates. Treatments with hydroxychloroquine alone or in combination with azithromycin were associated with a higher rate of mortality in comparison to favipiravir use. Conclusion: Patients with hematological malignancy infected with SARS-CoV-2 have an increased risk of severe disease and mortality
